Watch: UK Trailer for Award Winning Italian Migrant Doc 'Fire at Sea'

    Fire at Sea Documentary Trailer

“Demands its place in front of our eyes and compels our engagement and action.” The official UK trailer has debuted online for an award-winning documentary called Fire at Sea, examining the migrant crisis in Italy as seen through the eyes of a 12-year-old local boy living on the island of Lampedusa. This doc won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, the top prize, winning over a handful of other feature films. There’s definitely a political side to that win, but it also looks like a fantastic doc which rave reviews throughout the fest. Written and directed by Gianfranco Rosi, the film follows a boy named Samuele, while examining the cultural impact of a small town on an island where thousands of migrants land on the shores every week. ›››

  • Second Intense Trailer for 'The Infiltrator' Featuring Bryan Cranston

Second Intense Trailer for 'The Infiltrator' Featuring Bryan Cranston

    The Infiltrator Trailer #2

“I think we’ve been doing this backwards. We’ve been following the drugs to get the bad guys. What if we chase the money…?” Broad Green has debuted a second trailer for the informant thriller The Infiltrator, which we featured the first trailer for just a month ago. Bryan Cranston stars in the film as real-life DEA agent Bob Mazur, who went undercover in the 80s to infiltrate Pablo Escobar’s drug trafficking ring. Also starring John Leguizamo, Diane Kruger, Benjamin Bratt and Amy Ryan. Mazur posed as a money-laundering businessman and he successfully worked his way into Escobar’s drug empire for five years. This trailer is a step up from the first one in terms of intensity, with some slick editing and more action. Enjoy. ›››

Watch: Teaser Trailer for Sci-Fi Horror 'Morgan' Starring Kate Mara

    Morgan Teaser Trailer

“Don’t let it out.” 20th Century Fox has unveiled a teaser trailer for a mysterious new sci-fi horror thriller called Morgan, with the tagline “what is Morgan?” It’s obviously not “who”, but “what”, making me wonder if this is some weird alien creature they’ve captured that is pretending to be human. A bit like Under the Skin but if that film was made by Hollywood and not Jonathan Glazer. Morgan is the first feature directed by Ridley Scott’s son Luke Scott, and stars Kate Mara as a corporate troubleshooter sent to investigate this “person”. The full cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Toby Jones, Rose Leslie, Boyd Holbrook, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti. I’m certainly intrigued, this is a good tease. ›››

Cannes 2016: A Fantastic Year of Films to Remember – My 7 Favorites

    Cannes 2016

What are the best films out of this year’s Cannes Film Festival? Which ones should you be taking an interest in? What are the priorities? After 12 days at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, after 28 screenings, it’s time to present my 2016 list of my Top 7 Favorite Films. I love Cannes and this year it was a particularly fantastic year of films, with so many that will stick with me well beyond the festival. Many of these will be well received outside of the festival, too. Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson is already one of my all-time favorites, seriously, it’s a perfect film and I went to see it twice because I’m so in love with it. There are many others worth checking out, and this is my final recap of the festival (with a full list of all the films I saw at the end). ›››

  • Watch: First Trailer for Mickey Keating's Indie Thriller 'Carnage Park'

Watch: First Trailer for Mickey Keating's Indie Thriller 'Carnage Park'

    Carnage Park Trailer

“How far does a scream travel out here, Wyatt?” “Not too far…” IFC Midnight has debuted the trailer for the “pure-pulp thrill ride” Carnage Park, directed by Mickey Keating. The film premiered in the Midnight section at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and is described as a “gritty, grisly homage to the glory days of grindhouse cinema.” Carnage Park features Ashley Bell and Pat Healy as well as James Landry Hébert and Michael Villar. This trailer definitely has a grindhouse vibe with the saturated look, and seems like a great film to see at midnight in some old junky theater with a big bag of popcorn. Dive in. ›››

  • Nicholas Hoult & Felicity Jones in Trailer for Action Thriller 'Collide'

Nicholas Hoult & Felicity Jones in Trailer for Action Thriller 'Collide'

    Collide Trailer

“Is it dangerous?” “What kind of question is that?!” Open Road Films has unveiled the first trailer for the action thriller Collide, starring Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones. This isn’t the same as that sci-fi film Collider, instead it’s a rather generic-looking action movie with a stellar cast. Besides Hoult & Jones, the cast includes Anthony Hopkins (as a mob boss) and Ben Kingsley (looking wacko), plus Nadia Hilker and Clemens Schick. The story is about an American backpacker caught up in a drug smuggling ring while trying to pull off a heist, taking him “on the run from his employers across Munich’s high-speed Autobahn.” If that doesn’t interest you, I’m not sure what else will. This does look like it may be entertaining. Fire it up. ›››

  • Superb Short Film 'Tempus' About a Device That Slows Down Time

Superb Short Film 'Tempus' About a Device That Slows Down Time

    Tempus

“What if I told you I did conquer it? Time, that is. Would that be something you were interested in?” Now this is cool. Tempus is a new short film co-directed by Jes Bickhart and John Bashyam that is being pitched as a proof of concept for a feature. The concept involves a device that allows those connected to slow down time for 60 seconds. It’s not a completely original sci-fi concept, but the short film is very impressive. There’s a cinematic feel to it that really makes a difference, the VFX work is excellent, and the whole film has this nice coming-of-age vibe to it (a bit like Chronicle) that makes me want to see more. Check this out. ›››

Watch: New Full Trailer for Pixar's 'Finding Dory' Brings the Emotion

    Finding Dory Trailer

“Our friend is in there, lost and alone!” Disney-Pixar has debuted a new trailer for their upcoming animated sequel Finding Dory, directed by Andrew Stanton and co-directed by Angus MacLane. Everyone is back for this follow-up, including Albert Brooks as Marlin, and Ellen DeGeneres as Dory, with plenty of new voices like Idris Elba, Michael Sheen, Dominic West, Diane Keaton and Kaitlin Olson. This new trailer is much more emotional and reveals large amounts of the story, and it really looks wonderful. The opening hints at where the movie begins and the story about Dory looking for her family. The rest of it takes place at the aquatic center, where Dory befriends an Octopus named Hank. I really really can’t wait to see this, Pixar is better crafting the emotional core of their movies than just about any other animation studio. ›››

  • New Trailer for Illumination's Animated Singing Competition Movie

New Trailer for Illumination's Animated Singing Competition Movie

    Sing Trailer

“This show is not going to save your theater!” Universal has debuted a new full-length 3-minute trailer for Illumination’s new animated movie titled Sing, starring Matthew McConaughey as a Koala who decides to host a singing competition. This is obviously inspired by “American Idol” and all the numerous singing competitions around the world. It also seems to be a bit like Zootopia set in a diverse world of animals, with a story where some of them are going to break the mold of what’s expected of their specific species. The cast includes Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Tori Kelly. It’s a “musical comedy about finding the shining star that lives inside all of us.” Sing apparently features more than 85 hit songs, a few of which can be heard in this trailer below. Have fun! ›››

  • Second Trailer for 'Free State of Jones' with Matthew McConaughey

Second Trailer for 'Free State of Jones' with Matthew McConaughey

    Free State of Jones Trailer

“For our children, and their children’s children.” Fight the power! STX Entertainment has released the second trailer for Civil War action thriller Free State of Jones, about the story of a Southern farmer who rebelled against the Confederacy. Recent Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey plays Newton Knight; he’s joined by a cast featuring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell, Jacob Lofland, Mahershala Ali and Sean Bridgers. The first trailer for this film was pretty solid, and this one is also an engaging and emotional trailer. There’s tons of action in this one, which they seem to be playing up in hopes of drawing in some audience. This is an interesting film to compare to The Birth of a Nation, which isn’t set during the Civil War but also deals with a resistance movement, though this film seems to have a much bigger budget. ›››
