  • John Williams to Score Next 'Indiana Jones' + 'Star Wars' + One More

John Williams to Score Next 'Indiana Jones' + 'Star Wars' + One More

    John Williams + Steven Spielberg

It’s official! Legendary composer John Williams has at least three more movie scores in the works. This week, Williams was honored by the AFI with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a grand ceremony filled with celebrities. During the event, members of the press had the chance to talk with him and they confirmed a few details. First, Williams will definitely be scoring Rian Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII – arriving in December of 2017. That seems pretty obvious, especially considering his score for The Force Awakens earned him an Oscar nomination. Next, Williams also confirmed he’ll be scoring the new Indiana Jones movie that was recently announced with Steven Spielberg returning to direct. Again, not a surprise. ›››

They aren’t just shoes. Focus Features has debuted a trailer for a film called Kicks, from director Justin Tipping about a teen from the Bay Area whose favorite pair of shoes get stolen and he decides to embark on a mission to retrieve them. Newcomer Jahking Guillory stars as Brandon, the teen who leads the mission, with a cast including Christopher Jordan Wallace, Christopher Meyer, Kofi Siriboe, Mahershala Ali and Molly Shaiken. The film originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, where it won Best Cinematography – you can see why from this footage. • First TV Spots for David Ayer's 'Suicide Squad' Let Loose the Bad Guys

First TV Spots for David Ayer's 'Suicide Squad' Let Loose the Bad Guys

    Suicide Squad Spots

Worst heroes ever! Warner Bros has started airing the first two TV spots for the comic book action movie Suicide Squad, starring a bunch of villains. This is going to be so badass. I’m loving all they’ve showed us so far. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad features Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Jared Leto, Common, Jay Hernandez, Karen Fukuhara and many others. These first two spots mostly use footage we’ve seen before in the trailers, but they’re still cool to see. I’m seriously hoping this movie is as good as it looks, and I hope it blows up big at the box office, because that would be fantastic. It’s a big test to see if a movie with all villains works. Enjoy. ›››

Watch: Impressive Final Trailer for Killer Shark Thriller 'The Shallows'

    The Shallows Final Trailer

“Now you may think that’s the end of the story. Actually, it’s only the beginning.” Well I’ll be damned, this is a stellar trailer. Sony Pictures has released one final trailer for The Shallows, the killer shark movie starring Blake Lively as a surfer who gets trapped on a rock hundreds of yards from the beach. The most recent trailer we featured for this gave away too much and spoiled most of the story, but this trailer counters that by being much simpler. It shows us how malicious and, apparently, intelligent this shark is. And it uses minimal dialogue except for an excellent audio recording, which is very effective. I also really dig the music. ›››

  • First Crazy Teaser Trailer for Insane Horror Film 'The Greasy Strangler'

First Crazy Teaser Trailer for Insane Horror Film 'The Greasy Strangler'

    The Greasy Strangler Trailer

It’s time to get greasy. The first teaser trailer has been revealed for a film that premiered in the Midnight section at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, called The Greasy Strangler. It’s a totally insane, surreal horror comedy produced by Drafthouse Films and Elijah Wood’s SpectreVision and received mixed reviews, as it’s just too much disgusting madness for some to handle. You’ll see exactly what I mean with this trailer. The films stars Michael St. Michaels as Big Ronnie, along with Sky Elobar, Elizabeth De Razzo and Gil Gex. It’s about an aging disco enthusiast who turns into a creepy, greasy strangler at night, and things get much, much weirder. Not everyone will be into this, but some of you… maybe. Dive right in. ›››

Learn About 'The Art of Slow Motion in Film' with a New Video Essay

The Art of Slow Motion in Film

“We have no control of time. Except, of course, you’re a filmmaker.” There’s an excellent new video essay made by Julian Palmer to check out, this one all about the use of slow motion. The video examines the slow motion work in films ranging from Ingmar Bergman’s Wild Strawberries (1957) to many of Scorsese’s films including Mean Streets (1973) and Taxi Driver (1976) to recent films like Zack Snyder’s Watchmen (2009), Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker (2008), Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (2011) and Pete Travis’ Dredd (2012), which had a crazy cool slo-mo storyline. Of course there’s the scene in The Matrix, because it’s so iconic. There’s plenty to admire and plenty to learn in this video essay on slow motion, so check it out. ›››

    The Conjuring 2 Review

Since the 1960s, Ed and Lorraine Warren have been the world’s most renowned paranormal investigators. In 1971, the Warrens battled a malevolent entity that permeated a remote farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island — a case brought to the big screen in James Wan‘s 2013 horror film, The Conjuring. Wan’s follow-up, The Conjuring 2, picks up five years later, in 1976. In the film’s prologue, the Warrens are called in to investigate another supernatural disturbance, this time in the small Long Island town of Amityville. Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) hold a séance to summon the evil entity lurking within the walls of 112 Ocean Avenue.
