“Not tonight…” With the release of Marvel’s Doctor Strange a few weeks away, check out this short film written by C. Robert Cargill, one of the writers on Doctor Strange as well. As They Continue To Fall is a story about an aging homeless man (as played by John Henry Whitaker) who hunts fallen angels in a dystopian society filled with crime and corruption. Director Nikhil Bhagat says he wanted to create a film that felt “as grounded and realistic as possible.” There’s some impressive cinematography in this, and some moody music, which help achieve Bhagat’s goal of making it feel real. “I’m not doing this for me, I’m doing this for you. Samuel Goldwyn Films has released a trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Pet, about a sweet guy who works at animal shelter who all of a sudden kidnaps and locks up a woman he is interested in. Dominic Monaghan plays the seemingly nice guy who goes crazy and kidnaps her, and Ksenia Solo plays the beautiful woman he has his eyes on. The cast also includes Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Parsons. The twist in this seems to be that she might be even crazier than he is, or something like that (even the synopsis hints at it), but it’s hard to tell where this is going with the trailer – there’s some really funky moments in this. I’m curious about this, especially because of the cast. ›››

“Charles, the world is not the same as it was…” 20th Century Fox has unveiled the first teaser trailer for James Mangold’s new Wolverine movie, titled Logan, with Hugh Jackman playing the mutant superhero one last time. This is Jackman’s 9th time playing Wolverine, commonly known as Logan though his original name is James Howlett, and this time they’re sending him out on the “Old Man Logan” storyline. This is set in 2024 and follows aging Wolverine and Professor X, played again by Patrick Stewart, as they struggle with mental issues. Also starring Boyd Holbrook, Doris Morgado, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Stephen Merchant and Eriq La Salle. I love the look of Jackman as “Old Man Logan”, all grizzled with the beard. This looks like it should be an exquisite grand finale for Wolvie, glad to see them going all in with this story. ›››

Another new international trailer (labeled as #2) has arrived online for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the final movie in the Resident Evil cinematic series, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, once again starring Milla Jovovich. The full cast includes Ruby Rose, Ali Larter, Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, William Levy, Eoin Macken, Rola and Lee Joon-Gi. The team of survivors head to Raccoon City for one final showdown to put an end to all the madness. This trailer is similar to the other second US trailer, but with even more footage of the various monsters and zombies they have to fight their way through. Admittedly, this looks better than expected, but it also doesn’t look that good – probably perfect for a January release. Take a look. ›››

Then let’s begin…” 20th Century Fox has revealed the first teaser trailer for a supernatural thriller titled A Cure for Wellness, directed by Gore Verbinski, about a mysterious European “wellness spa” that claims to have found the “cure for wellness”. Dane DeHaan stars as an employee sent to rescue his boss from the spa, only to discover something much more sinister going on. He finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests there. The full cast includes Jason Isaacs, Mia Goth, Celia Imrie, Adrian Schiller, Carl Lumbly, Susanne Wuest, Lisa Banes, Ivo Nandi and Magnus Krepper. This looks totally wicked! “I am here as your servant. I can perform any simple task.” With the new “Westworld” show on everyone’s minds, it’s a perfect time to feature this new short film titled Judy. This first premiered at Fantastic Fest this year, and I owe Tim League thanks for the tip on its online debut. Judy is set in the near future and is about a guy who randomly receives an android assistant at his door one day. It starts out amusing, gets a bit raunchy, then ends on a very twisted note. I won’t spoil it – you just need to be aware this may not play out the way you want. It’s also a cautionary tale about how emotionless we can/will get with more technology. ›››

“Every year I worry: ‘Am I still fast?’” Universal has released an inspiring official trailer for the sports documentary titled I Am Bolt, profiling the life and legacy of Olympic running champion Usain Bolt. Bolt just won three more medals in Rio this summer, putting his total at nine Gold medals since his first Olympic games in 2008. This documentary includes intimate footage of Bolt’s daily life and was filmed on location in Beijing, Rio, London, Germany and Jamaica. This actually looks like a full-on documentary, and not some made-for-TV special, with lots of footage of his personal life and his training. I really want to check this out. ›››

“It was the greatest rivalry in the history of racing…” That sounds gnarly. Chassy Media has debuted a trailer for the racing documentary titled The 24 Hour War, about the rivalry between Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari. Specifically, this focuses on the battle between the two automakers and their race cars that took place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in the 1960s. The story goes that, after the rise of Ferrari in the 60s, Henry Ford tried to just buy Ferrari outright since they didn’t have much to compete with. Enzo Ferrari eventually said no, and Henry Ford was so upset he responded by building his own cars that could challenge the red Ferraris on the racetrack. This seems like a fun history lesson about the power of rivalries. ›››

“I want to pick my own team, I want my own gear, and I need a jet.” Lionsgate has debuted a trailer for a new action movie starring Steven Seagal, and if you’ve seen any of his other recent work, you know what to expect with this (which means – not much). Contract to Kill stars Seagal as a CIA enforcer investigating Arab terrorists captured in Mexico. His team includes actors Russell Wong and Jemma Dallender, and they’re chasing after Ghassan Bouz as Abdul Raouf. This looks like a very low-rent Mission Impossible-meets-The Expendables, with all the typical cliches you’d expect. Including the “Islamic terrorists are our worst enemy” trope. This looks pretty awful, I’m surprised it’s being released in theaters at all. Have a look. ›››

“Your Destiny Is In Your Blood.” 20th Century Fox has released a second official trailer for the adaptation of the video game series Assassin’s Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, giving us yet another look at this action movie. Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, who is sent back in time as his ancestor Aguilar. The cast includes Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Michael Kenneth Williams, Callum Turner; plus Ariane Labed. This trailer highlights more of the impressive action in this, but also spends time introducing us to the futuristic framing of the movie – Lynch being involved in this program. Perhaps playing off of the hype for Westworld a bit, maybe? Either way, this looks damn good – I’m excited to see it. ›››
