Deidra & Laney Rob a Train

“So – how does one rob a train?” Netflix has revealed an official trailer for the indie comedy Deidra & Laney Rob a Train, which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival in the ultra low budget Next category. Directed by Sydney Freeland, the film is about two teenage sisters who decide to rob a train in order to support their family after their mom ends up in jail. Starring Ashleigh Murray & Rachel Crow as the two young sisters Deidra & Laney, respectively, as well as Missi Pyle, Danielle Nicolet, Sharon Lawrence, Tim Blake Nelson, and Sasheer Zamata. “Do you live happily?” A short teaser trailer has arrived online for the next film from Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo, titled On the Beach at Night Alone. The film is set to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February this year, which is why this trailer is being released now. Not much is known about the plot yet, but On the Beach at Night Alone is supposedly about an actress who wanders around a seaside town, thinking about her relationship with a married man. • Rachel Weisz in Trailer for Roger Michell's New Film 'My Cousin Rachel'

Rachel Weisz in Trailer for Roger Michell's New Film 'My Cousin Rachel'

    My Cousin Rachel Trailer

“How easy it must be for a woman like your cousin Rachel to twist you around her little finger…” Fox Searchlight has unveiled a trailer for the upcoming romantic drama My Cousin Rachel, adapted from Daphne Du Maurier’s novel of the same name. My Cousin Rachel stars Rachel Weisz as the cousin of a young Englishman, who falls for her as he attempts to seek revenge on her for supposedly murdering his guardian. Sam Claflin co-stars, along with Holliday Grainger, Iain Glen, Andrew Knott, and Poppy Lee Friar. This is a very powerful trailer with a very mood song in it that is designed to provoke emotions and pull viewers in. I’m curious, but not really sure what to expect, it seems a bit too romantic for my tastes. ›››

Watch: Official Trailer for Minhal Baig's Relationship Drama '1 Night'

    1 Night Trailer

“But you want romance: earth shattering, life changing.” “It should be!” Check out this official trailer for an indie relationship drama titled 1 Night, written and directed by Minhal Baig. The film is about two different couples spending one night (hence the title) at a hotel, looking back at their lives and relationships so far. The cast includes recognizable faces from other movies: Anna Camp, Justin Chatwin, Isabelle Fuhrman, and Kyle Allen. The film already played at a film festival last year and arrives in theaters this February, for anyone curious about it after checking out the trailer. I like the music in this trailer, and the dichotomy of the two couples looking at their relationships and where they really want to be. Have a look. ›››

Sundance 2017: Heartbreaking, Urgent Documentary 'Chasing Coral'

    Chasing Coral Trailer

I didn’t think watching amazing footage of coral dying would make me so emotional, but it did. I was wiping away tears through this fantastic documentary, Chasing Coral, the follow-up to Jeff Orlowski’s Chasing Ice. Orlowski is a very passionate, extremely talented filmmaker who not only dives deep into his projects, but knows how to make an engaging and encouraging documentary. Chasing Coral documents Orlowski’s mission to capture time-lapse footage of coral in the ocean being bleached due to rising water temperature, which is caused by the excessive amount of fossil fuels we’re burning. Not only does he get the footage, he crafts a gripping narrative around chasing coral and ends with a enthusiastic call for action. Go see this doc. ›››

Sundance 2017: Sweaty, Sensual Masterpiece 'Call Me By Your Name'

    Call Me By Your Name

Have you ever seen a film that is so incredible, so extraordinary in every way, that when it’s over you feel totally drunk on happiness, high on cinema, floating away with huge smile? That’s how I felt walking out of the world premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name at the Sundance Film Festival. This film is a masterpiece. Everything about it is so wonderful and so moving and so unforgettable. Call Me By Your Name is the latest film by Luca Guadagnino, adapted from André Aciman’s book of the same name, about the sexual awakening / coming-of-age of a young boy from Italy. It’s a sweaty, sultry, seductive story infused with sensuality and intense intimacy. An utterly sublime cinematic experience that left me floored. ›››

Sundance 2017: Superb 'Brigsby Bear' is a Nerdy Nod to Storytelling

    Brigsby Bear

As a movie lover, I’m inherently aware of how important storytelling is to inspiring and invigorating all of us. It can bring us together, make us feel hopeful, and teach us that we should always keeping dreaming, and always be ourselves. Brigsby Bear, a Sundance film co-written by and starring Kyle Mooney, directed by Dave McCary and produced by the Lonely Island guys as well as Phil Lord & Chris Miller, is a wonderful ode to the power of storytelling and friendship. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this film as much as I did, but there is a genuinely sentimental side to it, on top of all the laugh-out-loud comedy, that elevates it from something fun to something truly memorable. You won’t be able to forget the Brigsby Bear after seeing this. ›››

  • Michelle Rodriguez in First Trailer for Assassin Film 'The Assignment'

Michelle Rodriguez in First Trailer for Assassin Film 'The Assignment'

    The Assignment Trailer

“I wanted to cause Frank Kitchen enormous psychic pain.” A trailer has debuted for a bit of a controversial new action film titled The Assignment, formerly known as (Re) Assignment when it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Michelle Rodriguez stars as a transgender hitwoman, and complaints started last year from those who thought the role should’ve been given to an actual transgender woman. The story is actually about a male hitman who is given gender reassignment surgery as a weird revenge for a job gone wrong, and she goes back to take them out. Also starring Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Anthony LaPaglia, Caitlin Gerard, and Terry Chen. This doesn’t look that good, but maybe it’s just a bad trailer. ›››

  • Official: Rian Johnson's Episode VIII is Titled 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

Official: Rian Johnson's Episode VIII is Titled 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

    Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Briefly: Lucasfilm has officially announced the new title of the next Star Wars movie – it will be called Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This is the sequel to The Force Awakens, continuing the “Skywalker” storyline and following the characters introduced in that movie: Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren. The Last Jedi is directed by Rian Johnson (of Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and Looper previously) and will open in theaters everywhere starting December 15th, 2017 at the end of this year. No other plot details have been revealed yet, but this is clearly the beginning of their major marketing push over the next 12 months. Fans have been quick to remind everyone that the plural of “jedi” is just “jedi”, so this title doesn’t mean there’s only one. Beyond that, everything is speculation until the first trailer drops – which we hope is sooner than later. Can’t wait! ›››
