  • Nintendo Switch's Metroid Prime 4 Being Developed By Bandai Namco–Report

Earlier this week we discovered that Bandai Namco is seemingly working on an unannounced first-person shooter exclusive to Nintendo Switch. Now, it appears that FPS is in fact Metroid Prime 4.

Eurogamer states “multiple sources” have confirmed to the site that the exclusive game is indeed Metroid Prime 4. Eurogamer also says the game’s lead studio is Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, in collaboration with Nintendo. GameSpot contacted Bandai Namco regarding the report; the company simply stated it had no comment to make at this time.

Metroid Prime 4 was announced at E3 last year, though no lead developer was revealed, and no gameplay or trailer was shown. The only other details we know about the game is that it may not be released in 2018 and that series producer Kensuke Tanabe is overseeing the project. The original trilogy was developed by Retro, which most recently made Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Wii U.

During a Bandai Namco earnings briefing in November last year, the company talked about how the it’s adding more resources to Switch game development. President Mitsuaki Taguchi said, according to the Wall Street Journal, “It’s a shame, but we didn’t think the Switch [would] be accepted this fast.”

Bandai Namco Singapore’s jobs page shows at least five open positions. However, none of the listings say what kind of game the candidate would be working on. The job ads call for people with experience working on AAA games.

One high-profile upcoming Switch release from Bandai Namco is Dark Souls Remastered, which is due out in May. It will include the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, along with a better frame rate and improved resolution.

  • Disney’s Streaming Service To Exclude R-Rated Content, Marvel Shows To Remain On Netflix–Report

Disney’s Streaming Service To Exclude R-Rated Content, Marvel Shows To Remain On Netflix–Report

It wasn’t especially surprising news when in November last year Disney announced it was planning to launch its own streaming service in 2019,, but it was a big deal. The studio has such a wealth of content that it made sense that it would want to monetize the streaming potential of properties such as Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and its classic animated catalogue. It was however less clear what content would be available on the service, and what would remain on platforms such as Netflix and Hulu.

A report in Deadline has now revealed some more details as to what subscribers can expect when it launches. The platform is currently untitled and the subscription cost is unknown, but it will launch initially in the US only, before a later expansion overseas. The service will remain family-friendly, which means no R-rated content; R-rated movies and shows will instead end up on Hulu, in which Disney holds a stake.

Superhero fans wondering what will happen to the raft of Marvel shows produced by Netflix may be relieved to learn that they are to stay put. It is unclear if this means that Netflix will continue to produce new Marvel shows, or whether the existing ones will simply remain on the service.

The broader aim is for Disney to start producing its own movie and TV content. Deadline states that the plan in the first year is to make “four to five original movies, and five TV series.” Each show will cost Disney $25 million-$35 million for 10 episodes, but the site notes that “exceptionally ambitious” projects could be budgeted as high as $100 million.

Obviously one these more expensive series could be the Star Wars TV show, which we know the studio is planning. Earlier this week, Disney boss Bob Iger revealed that it was in fact working on several shows in the franchise. “We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct to consumer app,” he said. “We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that, [but] I think you’ll find the level of talent on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

  • Another Metal Gear Survive Beta Coming To PS4, Xbox One, And PC Very Soon

Konami has announced another Metal Gear Survive beta, which is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC next week. The trial–which marks the first opportunity for PC players to try the game–starts on February 16 and ends on February 18.

The beta will include three missions set across two maps, and you can play the game in co-op with up to four players during the beta period. Special daily missions will also be offered over the three days. Those who take part will receive a FOXHOUND name plate, Metal Gear Rex Head accessory, and a bandana–all of which are cosmetic items that can be equipped to your in-game avatar. It’s unclear if there will be a way to unlock these without having played the beta.

This new beta follows another that came in January, though that was only for PS4 and Xbox One. We don’t yet know if the maps and missions on offer this time are the same as those playable last month.

Bear in mind the final game requires a constant internet connection and contains microtransactions, despite being a paid game with a single-player mode. Survive was originally due out in 2017, but it was delayed back at E3. It marks the first Metal Gear game to be released by Konami since Hideo Kojima, the series’ creator, parted ways with the studio. PSN Servers Down Right Now [Update: Back Online]

Update: PSN status is now back to normal, with all usual services resumed. Original story follows.

It appears the PlayStation Network is running into some problems right now. The official PlayStation Network Service Status page shows that basically all of PSN’s services are experiencing outages right now. As always, your mileage may vary, but for now it seems as if the issues are widespread across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, among other platforms.

It’s been tough sledding for PSN of late, as this partial outage comes just over a week after the network faced big server problems at the end of January.

The outage appears to be affecting many games, including Epic’s Fortnite. The developer acknowledged the issues on Twitter and directed players to Sony’s support site for more details.

People on Twitter had a lot to say about the newest PSN outage. Here are some of the tweets we saw regarding the network issues (even Chance the Rapper chimed in):

  • Lara Croft Is Ready For Action In New Tomb Raider Movie Posters

Lara Croft Is Ready For Action In New Tomb Raider Movie Posters

Lara Croft is one of the greatest video game characters ever created, but the two films based on the Tomb Raider games that were released in the early 2000s were extremely disappointing. Hopes are high that the upcoming movie reboot Tomb Raider will finally deliver on the promise of the games.

Two new posters for the movie have now been released. They follow the theme of the poster released in December and not the one from a few months earlier, which drew a criticism from fans for making star Alicia Vikander’s neck look weird. Check them out below:

These posters follow the latest trailer, which was released last month. Tomb Raider hits theaters on March 16, 2018, and it also stars Dominic West (The Wire), Walton Goggins (Sons of Anarchy, The Hateful Eight), and Daniel Wu (Warcraft). The director is Roar Uthaug, who previously helmed the acclaimed disaster movie The Wave.

It In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year, Vikander spoke about taking on the role of Lara Croft and what would set her apart from both the Lara of the games, as well as Angelina Jolie’s previous movie portrayal. “She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits,” she said. “But we’ve stripped away all of her experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet. She thought she was a stuck up businessperson living in the modern youth culture of suburban London, but then this whole box of information. This is the beginning.”

On the gaming side, in December it was officially announced that a new Tomb Raider game is on the way. Square Enix confirmed the news in a brief statement, although the title, platforms, and release date remain unknown. In June, the title “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” was potentially leaked in a PowerPoint presentation, though it’s unclear if that was real.

  • Jessica Jones Season 2's New Trailer Showcases The Show Before Its Netflix Release

The full trailer for the second season of Jessica Jones has been released. The Marvel Netflix show sees Kristen Ritter return as the troubled, hard-drinking private detective, who is forced to deal with consequences of her traumatic experiences in Season 1. Check it out above.

Jessica Jones Season 2 hits Netflix on March 8. The show also stars Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, and Leah Gibson. David Tennant is set to make a return as the villainous Kilgrave too, although given his fate in Season 1, it’s not yet clear how exactly.

Last year, Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg spoke about her plans for Season 2 and revealed that her time on the acclaimed serial killer drama Dexter was influencing her approach. “I learned from working on Dexter that you can advance the character, but you never want to cure the character,” she said. “With Dexter, the moment he felt guilt or accepted that he was ‘bad,’ the show’s over. He’s no longer a sociopath.

“The equivalent for us would be if Jessica somehow recovered from the damage that had been done to her. People don’t just heal, you don’t go through that just to say, ‘Oh, he got arrested, he’s in jail, I’m OK now.’ That trauma is a huge part of who she is now. She was kind of messed up even before Kilgrave came along, and so in Season 2 we can explore what’s possible for her moving forward.”

  • New Deadpool 2 Trailer Reveals Cable And Terry Crews

Following yesterday’s Flashdance-inspired poster, a new promo for Deadpool 2 has arrived. It’s not quite a trailer, but given the inventive marketing campaign so far, it might be as near as we get. It puts the spotlight on time-travelling cyber-mercenary Cable, played by Josh Brolin.

The video kicks off like a generic superhero trailer, giving us a bit of Cable’s backstory, before Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) steps in and recreates the rest with dolls while the movie’s VFX crew finish off their work on Cable’s robotic arm. We then get a quickly cut montage of action from the movie, including the first proper footage of Domino (Zazie Beetz). There’s also a hilarious reference to the problems caused by Superman’s infamous mustache in Justice League. Check it out above, and then head over to our Deadpool 2 trailer breakdown.

Deadpool 2 also stars Morena Baccarin, TJ Miller, and Brianna Hildebrand. David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde) is directing, replacing Tim Miller, who reportedly clashed with Reynolds over the direction of the movie.

Deadpool 2 is released on May 18. It was originally set to hit theaters on June 1, but last month Fox moved it forward, in addition to shifting The New Mutants back 10 months to February 2019.

In related news, the troubled and much-delayed X-Men spin-off Gambit has now been removed entirely from the studio’s schedule. The movie lost director Gore Verbinski last month; he is the third director to quit the project over the past couple of years. The Channing Tatum-starring film was due to start production this year ahead of a June 2019 release, but it is now unknown if or when this will happen.

  • Several Star Wars TV Shows Are In Development, Disney Confirms

Several Star Wars TV Shows Are In Development, Disney Confirms

Disney launches its streaming service in 2019, and as well as making many of its movies and TV shows available, the studio is planning to develop new shows exclusively for the service. Inevitably one of these is to be a Star Wars live-action series. Disney boss Bob Iger has now revealed that the studio is in fact developing more than one Star Wars show.

During Disney’s quarterly investors call, Iger stated that it won’t be long before we get more details about the studio’s plans. “We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct to consumer app,” he said, via Collider. “We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that, [but] I think you’ll find the level of talent on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

A Star Wars live-action show was in development for several years prior to Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012. Star Wars creator George Lucas was planning a series called Underworld, that was to take place between Episode III and Episode IV, and reportedly 50 scripts were written before the Disney deal canceled the project.

In related news, it was also announced this week that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will write and produce a new series of Star Wars movies. Disney confirmed that these films will be separate from the current Skywalker saga and the trilogy of movies that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is working on. “David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

The next Star Wars movie will be the spin-off Solo: A Star Wars Story. The movie hits theaters in May, and the first trailer was released this week. You can check out GameSpot’s full breakdown of the Solo trailer here.
