  • Here's What Fortnite Mobile Gameplay Looks Like On iOS

The much-anticipated invites for Fortnite mobile have gone out to select iOS users. We’ve been playing the game this afternoon, and it is indeed Fortnite for mobile, just as promised. You can check out our first impressions with the game above.

Fortnite mobile really does offer up the full Battle Royale experience. At least initially, the touch controls have proven somewhat difficult–there’s a lot to manage without any physical buttons, though there is some generous auto-aim. Performance seems fairly good, though there is a noticeable visual downgrade from other versions.

One notable change from the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions is an indicator that lets you know the direction of incoming fire and nearby chests. This is presumably meant to give players an opportunity to find these things while playing without sound, which is normally the easiest way for identifying those things.

In order to play Fortnite on mobile, you’ll need an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, iPad Pro, or a newer Apple device with iOS 11. Invites are being sent out by email to those who signed up–you can still do so on Epic’s website–with Android support set to come in the next few months. If you registered but haven’t gotten an invite yet, you may still receive one; Epic says more will be sent out “as the servers can handle more players.”

The game will feature optional cross-play with other platforms and get the same updates as those versions. Epic describes it as a “work in progress beta,” so you should expect to encounter some hiccups if you get in. Meanwhile, Epic has just released a new 3.3 update that adds Battle Royale and Save the World content.

  • Brigitte, Overwatch's New Hero, Launches Very Soon On PS4, Xbox One, And PC

Overwatch‘s 27th character, Brigitte, is coming to the game for everyone across PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 20, developer Blizzard announced today. Brigitte, who is Torbjorn’s daughter, is already available on Overwatch’s Public Test Realm.

Brigitte is an “an engineer with peerless armor-constructing abilities,” and those characteristics shine through in her abilities on the battlefield. Her primary weapon is the Rocket Flail, which has an extended range and can smash multiple opponents at once.

In addition to that, she brandishes a Barrier Shield, which can protect any teammates directly behind her. She can also toss Repair Packs to heal teammates, while her passive ability, Inspire, heals nearby allies over time when she lands blows on enemies. A full list of her abilities, as outlined by Blizzard, follows below.

For more on the newest Overwatch hero, you can check out a lot of footage from the PTR here or watch Brigitte’s origin story trailer here. You can also learn more about her in the latest Overwatch developer update and read about Brigitte’s backstory and special abilities here. Like other Overwatch characters, Brigitte also has a lot of alternate skins–you can see them all here.

    Overwatch – Brigitte Kit Abilities

    • Rocket Flail – Brigitte’s melee weapon has an extended range, enabling her to strike multiple enemies with a single swing.
    • Repair Pack – Brigitte throws a Repair Pack that can heal an ally. Any healing over that ally’s maximum health provides them with armor instead.
    • Whip Shot – Brigitte throws her flail a long distance, dealing damage and knocking an enemy away from her.
    • Barrier Shield – Brigitte deploys a frontal energy barrier to absorb a limited amount of damage.
    • Shield Bash – Once her Barrier Shield is deployed, Brigitte can dash forward to stun an enemy.
    • Inspire – When Brigitte hits enemies with her flail, she also heals nearby allies over time.
    • Rally – Brigitte moves faster and provides all nearby allies with armor that lasts until it’s removed by damage.

  • New Fortnite Update Out Now On PC, PS4, Xbox One; Patch Notes Detail What's Changed

Following a day-long delay, Epic Games has released the newest update for Fortnite. The 3.3 patch adds new content to both Battle Royale and Save the World modes, with the former getting several new features.

First up for Battle Royale is a new weapon, remote explosives. These are pretty self-explanatory, allowing you to place a bomb and then detonate it from a distance. These appear to be ideal for dealing with player-built fortresses. They are a Rare-level rarity item and their addition has resulted in Smoke Grenades being “vaulted,” meaning those are no longer available in-game for the time being. Remote Explosives come in stacks of four, with a maximum of 10.

Remote explosives can be found in treasure chests or supply drops, as floor loot, or through Supply Llamas, another of this patch’s new features. These are essentially treasure chests found in unusual locations that will reward you with good loot.

Also notable is that a new limited-time mode, Blitz, launches on March 19; it consists of more fast-paced matches that feature a 15-minute time limit. Various bugs have also been fixed, and Epic says it’s made improvements to the visual effect when you’re hit by a bullet that should make it easier to tell which direction it came from.

For Save the World players, a new Spring It On chapter, Luck of the Storm, is now available with new rewards, including St. Patrick’s Day-themed heroes. Epic has also made some changes to stat caps and rolled back patch 3.2’s adjustments to critical chance.

Patch 3.3 is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One–maybe Drake will be diving back in to check out its new additions. You can see everything that’s changed in the full patch notes on Epic’s website.

  • See The Witcher's Geralt In SoulCalibur 6

See The Witcher's Geralt In SoulCalibur 6

Geralt of Rivia will be a playable character in SoulCalibur VI, Bandai Namco and CD Projekt Red have announced. In addition, a stage based on The Witcher series, Kaer Morhen, will be available as one of the game’s arenas.

The Witcher himself will, according to a statement, keep his “signature fighting style” in his transition from open-world RPG to fighting game. He’ll be able to utilize a “combination of swordplay, ability-enhancing potions, and combat magic.” In addition to having the character, his English voice actor, and his signature stage–based on the Witchers’ training ground–there will also be the “iconic” music track from the series, Hunt or be Hunted.

“We’ve collaborated with Bandai Namco artists to faithfully recreate Geralt, and shared original Witcher 3: Wild Hunt assets like Geralt’s model, animations, and weapons,” said CD Projekt Red community lead Marcin Momot. “I think Bandai Namco did an outstanding job of capturing all the details and introducing The Witcher to SoulCalibur in a way fans of both series will enjoy.”

Other characters coming to SoulCalibur VI include Ivy and Zasalamel. Ivy Valentine makes her comeback wielding the tricksy Ivy Blade, which has the ability to switch between a solid sword or a barbed whip. Zasalamel and his Kafziel scythe, meanwhile, looks like they’re still just as devastating at mid-to-close range.

The last SoulCalibur VI characters to be revealed recently were Kilik, Xianghua, and Nightmare–all series veterans–and Groh, a newcomer. For more, read our hands-on with SoulCalibur 6’s new characters to find out what we thought of them. A release date for the upcoming fighting game has not yet been announced; all we know is that it’s coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC this year.

  • Nintendo Switch-Exclusive Super Bomberman R Coming To PS4, Xbox One, PC

Nintendo Switch-Exclusive Super Bomberman R Coming To PS4, Xbox One, PC

Super Bomberman R was a launch title for Nintendo Switch last year and has remained exclusive to the platform ever since. Now, however, publisher Konami is bringing the arcade game to other platforms: the game launches worldwide for PC on June 13 in addition to PS4 and Xbox One on June 12 (June 14 in Europe).

Each system will receive an exclusive character. PlayStation owners can play as a Ratchet & Clank-themed bomber, while Xbox fans can try a fighter based on Halo‘s Master Chief. Finally, PC players can use a Portal-themed P-body bomber. Separately, anyone who pre-orders on any platform will receive additional characters: the Golden Vic Viper bomber and the Eight Shiny Bomberman Brothers set. These two items are also included in Super Bomberman R’s Shiny Edition at retail. Take a look at all this bonus content below.

After the game’s release, Konami and co-developers HexaDrive continued to support it with new content and frequent updates. One such patch improved the game’s frame rate, while another added new characters. Super Bomberman R’s 2.0 update, meanwhile, added more stages, among other things. At least some of that added content–the Grand Prix mode, specifically–will be available at launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, though it’s unclear if every piece of DLC will come to the new platforms.

The multiplayer game received a mixed reception upon its original launch, though we enjoyed it here at GameSpot. “In almost every respect, Super Bomberman R plays it safe with its tried-and-true formula,” wrote our critic, Jason D’Aprile. “The story mode is short (less than two hours at most), but fun with some creative boss battles and plenty of nostalgic throwbacks. The heart of the game–the battle mode–is a welcome retro rush, and decades since the franchise debuted, it’s still one of the best party games around.” Read more in our full Super Bomberman R review.

  • Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Revealed For PS4, Xbox One, PC With Release Date

After a number of rumors and leaks, Square Enix has finally confirmed that the next Lara Croft game will be Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The company also announced the game’s release date as September 14. It will come to PS4, Xbox One, and PC simultaneously, rather than being a timed exclusive to Xbox One like the previous game.

Square Enix says the game will be “Lara Croft’s defining moment as she becomes the Tomb Raider,” but few other details are known about the project as yet. A full reveal has been dated for April 27, and fans will be able to try the game out early at one of three events by registering at the Tomb Raider website. A teaser trailer has been released to hold you over in the meantime; take a look at that below.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider had long been rumored. At Gamescom 2015, Square Enix boss Phil Rogers let slip that a third title in the series could be in the pipeline. Following that, the title “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” was spotted in a PowerPoint presentation. Square Enix then confirmed a third game in December last year but didn’t say anything else at the time. Finally, this reveal and release date were leaked through the official Tomb Raider website’s source code just recently.

The new Tomb Raider movie, meanwhile, hits cinemas on March 16. We enjoyed the film here at GameSpot; critic Michael Rougeau called it a “great video game adaptation and a decent action movie on its own.” For more, check out our full Tomb Raider movie review or our review roundup.

  • Monster Hunter World Update Brings Deviljho, Weapon Changes, And More Soon

Monster Hunter World Update Brings Deviljho, Weapon Changes, And More Soon

Capcom has finally detailed the first major free update for Monster Hunter World. It arrives later this month and introduces the much-anticipated Deviljho monster–along with accompanying gear to craft–plus a variety of other changes and additions.

Prior to World’s release, Deviljho (a returning monster for the series) was confirmed to be the first big addition through free, post-launch updates. Aside from having a different foe to hunt, you’ll be able to use the parts from it to craft two full armor sets, Vangis α and Vangis β. Additionally, there will be a new “entry” for all 14 weapon types, which Capcom says on its blog include brand-new designs for Sword and Shield, Hunting Horn, Bow, Insect Glaive, and Charge Blade. You can see some of this gear below.

Deviljho will be released as part of a broader update launching on March 22 for PS4 (version 2.00) and Xbox One (version 2.0.0.0). The patch will also make balance changes to almost every weapon type, primarily those of the melee variety. For instance, Great Sword will get a buff to damage with Charged Slash abilities, while Gunlance will get an attack damage increase and a reduction to the amount of sharpness lost when shelling.

    Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7

Capcom is also addressing complaints about online griefing, where players prevent their teammates from carving, thus robbing them of rewards. With this update installed, allies can no longer interrupt the carving animation, and players become immune to all hit reactions while carving after a quest is complete. Additionally, a new option to return to the gathering hub in single-player or to disband and return to the gathering hub in multiplayer have been added to the Return Destination menu after finishing a quest. You can see a full list of announced changes at the bottom of this post; full patch notes will be shared closer to the update’s release.

Before the update arrives, Capcom will distribute a free Character Edit Voucher on March 16. This will be available from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store as a one-use item that lets you modify your character’s gender and physical appearance, but not you or your Palico’s name or your Palico’s appearance. Additional vouchers will be available for purchase “at a later date” if you decide you want to make changes again after using the freebie.

Finally, Capcom unveiled details of the game’s Mega Man crossover gear (available through a quest from April 13-27) and the winner of the community’s weapon design contest (available starting April 6). These will come during the Spring Blossom event that runs from April 6-20 and offers “daily fun activities” and a new look for the Gathering Hub, as seen in the images below.

  • Fortnite's Invite-Only iOS Version Is Already No. 1 On The App Store

Fortnite's Invite-Only iOS Version Is Already No. 1 On The App Store

Fortnite‘s popularity continues to rise. The mobile edition of the super-popular battle royale game launched today on iOS through an invite-only beta, and it’s already topping the charts.

The mobile version is currently sitting at the top of the Free Apps chart for games on the App Store. It’s a remarkable achievement considering you need an invite to get in. It’s not immediately clear if this is the first time an invite-only game has reached No. 1.

    No Caption Provided

The first invitations to the Fortnite iOS beta started going out today, March 16, and more people will be added in the coming days. An Android version is also in the works, but it’s coming later, and Epic has not said if there will be a beta for this version or not.

We tried out the mobile version and found that it’s pretty much the same game as on console and PC. You can see gameplay from a full match on iOS right here. In addition, the mobile edition will support optional cross-play with other platforms.

Meanwhile, a new 3.3 update has launched for the console and PC game that adds a new item, remote explosives, and more. Additionally, an update is launching tomorrow on PC that fixes a crash scenario. The game’s popularity got another jolt this week when famous rapper Drake played the game during a record-breaking Twitch stream.

  • Far Cry 5 Has Microtransactions, Campaign Is Playable Offline

Far Cry 5 Has Microtransactions, Campaign Is Playable Offline

With Far Cry 5‘s much-anticipated release coming up soon, we’ve now learned a little bit more about the game and some of its features. Publisher Ubisoft confirmed to GameSpot today two key particulars about the game regarding microtransactions and whether or not you will need an internet connection to play the campaign.

As with many other games, including previous Ubisoft games, Far Cry 5 will offer microtransactions. Executive producer Dan Hay stressed that the game will be generous in what it offers, though if you want to speed up your progress by spending money, you’ll have that option. “We’ve set the game up to be generous,” Hay said. “We’ve set the game up so…nothing is locked [away]. You can go out and explore, and the game will reward you for your exploration.”

    No Caption Provided
    Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8Gallery image 9Gallery image 10

Ubisoft PR followed up to offer a full statement on Far Cry 5’s microtransactions, saying they will allow players to speed up their progress. It remains to be seen exactly how this will work, but looking at another recent Ubisoft game, Assassin’s Creed Origins, may give us some clues. That game offers “Time Saver Packs” that include items or packs of in-game currency that you can then spend to speed up your progress. They are totally optional, and can be unlocked through normal gameplay. It is possible that Far Cry 5 will offer something similar.

Far Cry 5’s microtransactions will be available for single-player and co-op, and apparently head-to-head multiplayer as well. It’ll probably make gamers happy to learn that all of Far Cry 5’s microtransaction items are cosmetic only; they do not affect gameplay.

Also in our interview, Ubisoft confirmed that Far Cry 5’s full campaign will be playable offline. Of course, if you want to play in co-op or are interested in checking out the game’s online components, you will need an internet connection. You would expect to be able to play a campaign offline, but not all games allow you to. For example, Bungie’s Destiny 2 requires a constant internet connection, even when playing solo.

We will have lots more from our interview with Dan Hay in the days ahead, covering many other topics, but notably the conception and creepy charisma of the game’s main cult leader antagonist, Joseph Seed. We also asked Hay about Far Cry 5’s impressive- and deep-looking map-editing tools. Far Cry 5 launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 27.

In other news, Ubisoft recently announced Far Cry 5’s Season Pass, and it takes players to places like Mars and the Vietnam War.
