As detailed on the website, the Warmastered Edition improves upon the original 2010 action/adventure game in a number of ways. For instance, it’ll run at native 1080p on consoles. It also hits 60 frames per second on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, although the Wii U version is limited to 30 frames per second.

    The changes also include:

    • Doubled texture resolutions
    • Rendering improvements and rework
    • Better shadow rendering quality
    • Post processing effects

This week a couple European sites (NextN and PCGames) leaked the remaster early. We don’t have word on when it’ll launch or what price it’ll be–the website only says “coming soon.”

You can check out our review of the original Darksiders here. The game’s sequel, Darksiders II, was already remastered for PS4, Xbox One, and PC and released in October 2015.

  • Professor Layton's Daughter Stars in The Newest Game in The Series

Professor Layton developer Level-5 has announced a new entry in the series called Lady Layton: The Conspiracy of King Millionaire Ariadne. The game is scheduled to launch in Spring 2017 in Japan for 3DS and iOS.

The game was announced during Level-5’s Vision 2016 event, where it was also revealed the new protagonist is a female called Catriel Layton. She’s the daughter of Professor Hershel Layton, the star of the previous games in the series. You can watch the first trailer below.

As reported by Gematsu, Catriel is described as a “Jack-of-all-trades, riddle-solving detective.” She spends her time looking into the strange happenings in London and will take care of anything from missing pets to murdered friends.

Catriel became a detective in order to find her father, who vanished under mysterious circumstances, but has taken to solving all the puzzles London throws her way.

Joining Catriel is a talking dog named Sharo, who helps her figure out puzzles and is generally quite cool. See trailer above for evidence.

The last entry in the core Professor Layton series was 2013’s Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. The good professor also appeared in a crossover game with Capcom’s Phoenix Wright.

  • Pokemon Go's Watch Accessory Delayed

The announcement was made by Nintendo on Twitter, but a more specific release date was not provided.

The #PokemonGO Plus accessory will now be released Sept 2016 instead of the originally expected end of July launch. https://t.co/QgjZf1aAV6

    — Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) July 27, 2016

Pokemon Go Plus is a Bluetooth device that connects to your phone and offers notifications (through vibrations and its LED) about various things. These include alerts that you’re near a PokeStop or a Pokemon waiting to be caught; in the latter case, you can simply press a button on the Plus to throw a Poke Ball.

Although Pokemon Go isn’t developed by Nintendo, it is producing and distributing the accessory. It’s priced at $35, but is being sold for a much higher price on eBay.

The Pokemon Go mobile game has reportedly been downloaded more times in its first week than any other app in history.

  • Former Burnout Devs Working on New Driving Game

Alex Ward, the director of the Burnout series, has confirmed work has begun on a new driving game. He announced the project with a short and sweet message on Twitter, but no further details on the game were provided.

Work has begun on a driving game.

    — Alex Ward (@CrashedAlex) July 27, 2016

Ward is working on the title alongside fellow Criterion Games alumni Fiona Sperry. The two founded a new indie studio called Three Fields Entertainment in 2014.

Three Fields previously released Dangerous Golf, a game which had some very obvious Burnout inspirations. It tasked players with hitting a golf ball in a way that would cause the most damage to their surroundings.

“It’s as serious a golf game as Burnout was a serious simulation to driving games,” Three Fields said prior to its release. “We wanted to mix the attitude of Burnout with the destruction of Black (a 2004 first-person shooter from Criterion) whilst setting the golf ball on fire–a nod to NBA Jam. This type of gameplay is part of our DNA, and something we think our fans will truly enjoy.”

In GameSpot’s Dangerous Golf review Peter Brown said the game was for people that craved destruction, but gameplay was ultimately “shallow.”

“Dangerous Golf is a game you want to love, but it becomes increasingly difficult as you go: the unintuitive controls stop being cute and begin to become an annoyance; the objects you smash, which for a moment inspired joy, become an afterthought,” he added.

“Wacky games have a place in gaming, but a game like Dangerous Golf needs more than boisterous effects and odd scenarios to sustain its allure.”

  • Nintendo Reports Big Losses as Wii U Sales Stall

Nintendo Reports Big Losses as Wii U Sales Stall

Nintendo has detailed its financial results for the three-month period spanning April 1 to June 30 2016, reporting a big decline in sales compared to the same period in 2015.

Net sales were cited as $587 million, which represents a 31 percent decline in comparison to 2015, when it reported sales of $855 million.

It’s operating income also showed a decline for the second year running in this period. It reported a $48 million loss in 2016, and during the same period in 2015, the loss was $10 million.

    3101067-0801016261-27200.jpg

Nintendo noted a decline in sales of both the 3DS and Wii U as one of the causes. Sales of its handheld were 940,000 units worldwide for the period, which is a seven percent decline over the previous year.

The Wii U, meanwhile, suffered a more considerable drop, with 220,000 units sold worldwide. This is a 53 percent decrease compared to 2015.

From a software perspective, Kirby: Planet Robobot was said to have showed “steady sales,” and Fire Emblem Fates‘ European launch was deemed as getting “off to a good start.”

Worldwide software sales for the Wii U remained flat, with 4.6 million units reported for the 2016 period, compared to 4.5 million in 2015. 3DS sales for the 2016 period, however, showed a small improvement, rising from 7.9 million units worldwide in 2015 to 8.4 million units in 2016.

Nintendo also brought up foreign exchange rates, which it said was “impacted by significant yen appreciation” and resulted in a $332 million loss.

Looking ahead, Pokemon Sun/Moon, which launch in November, were as a key title. It also noted that it will release Mario Party Star Rush in the fall. Together, it believes these games can “re-energize” the 3DS business.

Of course, it also reiterated that its next gaming platform, NX, will be available in March 2017.

Additionally, Pokemon Go Plus, the watch-like companion for the mobile game, will now be available in November, instead of its previously expected July release.

The Kyoto-headquartered company did not adjust its financial outlook for the fiscal year.

  • GTA, BioShock Publisher Believes in Nintendo, Is Enthusiastic About NX

Grand Theft Auto, BioShock, and XCOM publisher Take-Two Interactive has not lost faith in Nintendo and is “enthusiastic” about its next platform, which is codenamed NX.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, chief executive Strauss Zelnick said Take-Two believes in Nintendo’s new hardware.

“We’re believers. We never want to count Nintendo out. They do it over and over and over again. So we feel pretty enthusiastic really.”

Continuing, the exec said the muted performance of the Wii U, which followed the sensational Wii, was part of a familiar cycle for Nintendo.

“It’s not a slump, it’s intentional,” he said. “They come to market, they do really well, and then they sort of exit the market for a period of time.

“They’ve been doing it for like 150 years … They’re really thoughtful, they come to market with something they really think is going to work, more often than not it really works, it blows up, and then eventually they let it decline and they move on to the next thing. They don’t mind having time in between.

Nintendo has confirmed the NX’s global release date is in March 2017. It also suggested it is holding back on a reveal in order to protect a unique element of NX.

“In terms of NX, there’s an idea that we’re working on,” said Shigeru Miyamoto. “That’s why we can’t share anything at this point, and I don’t want to comment on the other companies. If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker.”

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will also be released simultaneously for the Wii U and NX in 2017.
