  • Battlefield 1: Can Horses Stand on Planes?

YouTube’s DefendTheHouse is back with new “Mythbusters” videos, the latest being for EA’s recently released World War I shooter Battlefield 1.

Across two videos numerous myths are tested, like if a horse can stand on top of a plane, if a human character can stand on top of a moving plane, if a sniper shield can protect you from grenade damage, and if you can land a plane on the dreadnought. Other myths tested include whether or not syringes can damage enemies, if you can stand on observation balloons, and if you can stand on a zeppelin as it’s going down. We won’t spoil the results for you. As usual, the music selections are excellent. Check out the videos below (via Game Informer).

You can check out all of DefendTheHouse’s Mythbusters videos–including those for Star Wars: Battlefront and Fallout 4here on YouTube.

In other news about Battlefield 1, a new patch came out this week that fixes bugs and more. You can see the full patch notes here. Additionally, players have discovered a zeppelin glitch that turns the airships into tornadoes of fire.

    GameSpot’s Battlefield 1 review scored the game a 9/10.

“With Battlefield 1, EA and DICE have proven the viability of World War I as a time period worth revisiting in first-person shooters,” reviewer Miguel Concepcion said. “It brings into focus countries and nationalities that do not exist today while also shedding light on how the outcome of that war has shaped our lives. As World War II shooters proved many years ago, no game can truly capture the entirety of a global conflict. This is why the focused structure of the War Stories anthology works well. Moreover, Operations succeeds as an effective educational primer on the battles that this gripping adversarial mode are based on. Battlefield 1 is just an introduction to one of the deadliest world events in history, but it is an outstanding, feature-rich package in both its emotional stories and strong multiplayer.”

  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Currently Free on European Xbox Store

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is currently free to download for the Xbox One in Europe. To grab it, head over to the Microsoft store and you can add it to your account.

It’s unclear why the title is available for free and, given that it has been available for a few hours now, it doesn’t seem to be a mistake. The most likely explanation is that it is part of the Free Play Days, as pointed out in this NeoGAF post. Microsoft hasn’t officially announced that Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is part of Free Play Days, however.

Additionally, it doesn’t look like it is available to download for free on the US Microsoft store. Access to games that are part of the Free Play Days promotion is usually revoked after a specified period, so we wouldn’t get too attached to that digital copy of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is an upgraded compilation that features Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. In GameSpot’s review it was awarded an 8/10.

“Let’s be clear: You don’t have to be Handsome Jack’s number-one fan to appreciate Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. But even if you’re not, you will still find an impressive archive, chock full of dozens upon dozens of hours of laughter and exciting combat,” said Cameron Woolsey.

“Even considering issues presented by Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, The Handsome Collection is still a great compilation, allowing you to witness not only Jack’s tale, but play a major role in shaping the history of Pandora itself, along with its lonely moon. And that is a story that Marcus may gladly tell again someday.”

The site reports that Paramount hopes to release a new movie tied to the Cloverfield shared universe every year.

It follows a team of astronauts that are forced to fight for survival when a discovery alters reality.

Earlier this year Paramount released 10 Cloverfield Lane, starring John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Although it was primarily a thriller in which Winstead’s character finds herself held captive by a strange, possible crazy man, it also had hooks into the Cloverfield universe.

10 Cloverfield Lane was directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who also previously worked on shorts, including Portal: No Escape, which is set in Valve’s Portal universe. He was also known for being one of the three hosts of Revision 3’s Totally Rad Show.

Around the same time Abrams was promoting 10 Cloverfield Lane, he hinted at a possible third movie in the Cloverfield universe in an interview with EW.

“This is just this movie, and it’s only two films that we’re talking about right now,” Abrams said, referring to the connection between Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane. “There is something else that we’d like to do, and hopefully we’ll get a shot,” he added.

God Particle is set for release on February 24, 2017.

  • Apple's Annual Revenue Declines for First Time in 15 Years

Apple's Annual Revenue Declines for First Time in 15 Years

Technology giant Apple reported earnings this week for its fiscal fourth quarter and full year ended September 24. The iPhone maker’s revenue and profit were down.

For the quarter, Apple posted revenue of $46.9 billion, compared to $51.5 billion during the same period last year. Profit was $9 billion, a drop from $11.1 billion last year. Looking at the whole fiscal year, Apple pulled in $215.6 billion, compared to $233.7 billion during the same quarter last year. Profit also dropped, falling from $53.4 billion last year to $45.7 billion this year.

According to The Wall Street Journal, this is the first time in 15 years that Apple’s annual revenue has declined.

One of the reasons for the downturn could be decreased sales of iPhones and other devices. Apple sold 45.5 million iPhones during the three-month quarter ended September 24, compared to 48 million during the same period last year. iPad sales also dropped, falling from 9.88 million last year to 9.27 million this year. Additionally, Mac sales declined, coming in at 4.89 million units, compared to 5.7 million during the same period last year.

Despite the downturn, Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement, “Our strong September quarter results cap a very successful fiscal 2016 for Apple. We’re thrilled with the customer response to iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and Apple Watch Series 2, as well as the incredible momentum of our Services business, where revenue grew 24 percent to set another all-time record.”

The new iPhone 7 went on sale on September 16 in the US and other major markets. During the same event where the iPhone 7 was announced, Nintendo also revealed that Mario was finally coming to the iPhone in the form of Super Mario Run. The game is due out in December.

  • GTA 5: Stricter Penalties for Cheaters Live Now

GTA 5: Stricter Penalties for Cheaters Live Now

Rockstar Games has launched new measures against players who cheat in Grand Theft Auto V‘s multiplayer mode, GTA Online.

The developer announced today that players who have “illegitimately gained” in-game money will have those funds removed from their virtual bank accounts. This is being done to “keep the gameplay environment fair.”

    No Caption Provided

“If you received an alert saying that your shared bank balance was adjusted, that is because you had illegitimate funds in your account,” the developer said (via Gamasutra).

Only the money obtained through dubious means will be removed from offending players’ accounts, not funds purchased through Shark Cards.

The developer also today announced that it has spruced up its ban and suspension policy for GTA Online. First-time offenders will receive a temporary suspension, while they will face a permanent ban for their next infraction. Players temporarily banned cannot access GTA Online at all, while the date that their suspension lifts will be depicted on the GTA V home screen. Additionally, people who have been suspended will lose all progress on their character(s), including property and inventory.

All GTA Online suspensions and bans cannot be appealed, Rockstar said.

You can receive a suspension in GTA Online for doing things like using modded content or exploiting/abusing gameplay mechanics. Rockstar may also suspend you for “manipulating protected game data and code” or “interfering with other players’ gameplay experience.” Depending on the severity of the incident, as judged by Rockstar, you’ll receive a temporary suspension or a permanent ban for doing any of these things.

In other news about GTA Online, Rockstar has announced this year’s Halloween event. Players can unlock a rad-looking motorcycle that has a red-eyed skull on it and take part in a new Angels vs. Demons mode. Read GameSpot’s previous coverage to learn more about GTA Online’s Halloween event.

  • Nintendo Switch Will Ship 2 Million Units in Launch Month, Says President

Nintendo’s next gaming platform, Switch, will ship two million units during the financial year ending March 2017, according to company president Tatsumi Kimishima. Shipping units doesn’t translate to sales, so the number is more indicative of how many consoles Nintendo is aiming to have with retailers during its first month on sale.

Nintendo CEO says current FY financial guidance assumes 2 million units of Switch to be shipped this fiscal year ending in March

    — Takashi Mochizuki (@mochi_wsj) October 26, 2016

Speaking during a financial briefing, as reported by the Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, Kimishima also said Switch won’t be sold at a loss. This is noteworthy as, traditionally, hardware is sold at a loss and software is used to recoup these costs.

Not selling consoles at an initial loss can often mean the price of the hardware is high, but Kimishima said Nintendo is is “listening to what consumers expect from us when setting price.”

On Switch: Nintendo CEO says company won’t make loss by selling it; but also listening to what consumers expect from us when setting price.

    — Takashi Mochizuki (@mochi_wsj) October 26, 2016

Kimishima echoed similar sentiments during a Q&A in May: “We are not thinking of launching the hardware at a loss,” he said. “When Wii U was launched, the yen was very strong. I am assuming that situation will not repeat itself. Selling at a loss at launch would not support the business, so we are keeping that mind in developing NX.”

Finally, Kimishima said that, following the Switch’s full reveal, he believes consumers will understand what distinguishes the console from its other portable platform, the 3DS. He did not elaborate, however.

Nintendo CEO’s confident that after full unveiling of Switch, consumers would understand that it would be different from 3DS.

    — Takashi Mochizuki (@mochi_wsj) October 26, 2016

As previously unveiled, the Nintendo Switch is a home console and handheld hybrid. It is expected to launch in March 2017. For lots more on the Nintendo Switch, check out GameSpot’s recent coverage in the links below.
