  • Indie Platformer Gris Hits An Incredible Sales Milestone

Here’s some good news for fans of artful indie platformers–one of the best of the last few years, Gris, has done extremely well for itself. Developer Nomada Studios has revealed that the game, available now on Switch, PC, mobile, and PS4, has sold an incredible 1 million copies.

The studio announced this achievement on Twitter, thanking everyone on the team, their families, and publisher Devolver Digital for helping Gris achieve this success. A new piece of artwork was included to commerate the milestone.

We are thrilled to announce that GRIS has sold more than one million copies… crazy!! ?? Thanks to our team, families, @devolverdigital and specially to all of you who made this possible ♥️ pic.twitter.com/UOuHkaGt0m

    — Nomada Studio – G R I S (@nomadastudiobcn) April 19, 2020

The game launched for Switch and PC in December 2018, before hitting iOS in August 2019 and PlayStation 4 in November. It earned rave reviews at launch, including GameSpot’s own 9/10 review.

Gris is a puzzle platformer that deals with themes of grief, loneliness, and pushing on through dark times. It’s also absolutely gorgeous, thanks to its painterly art style.

The game is currently discounted by 50% on Steam as part of Devolver’s weekend sale, but hurry–the sale ends April 20. It’s also available as part of Xbox Game Pass for PC.

  • Fallout 76 Players May Have To Move House When Wastelanders Comes Out

After a short delay due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), Fallout 76‘s big Wastelanders update is finally arriving on April 14. A new update from Bethesda has revealed more important information for existing players, as the game nears its extensive overhaul.

With Wastelanders adding NPCs, new companions and a new main quest, parts of the existing game will need to be tweaked–including player C.A.M.P.s that have been built in zones that will now house NPCs or story content.

Bethesda has released a map of the new no-C.A.M.P. zones for players who want to log in and move their homes before the update goes live, but if they don’t get around to it the process will be automatically prompted upon loading Wastelanders for the first time. “You will also be offered a free C.A.M.P. move, which we hope will help you find a new home for your home,” the update reads.

  • Top New Games Releasing On Switch, PS4, Xbox One, And PC This Week — April 12-18, 2020

New Releases isn’t just a show about the biggest games launching every week–it also highlights some lesser-known titles you might want to put on your radar. That’s the case this week, with the Ultimate Edition of Space Engineers, tabletop RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York, and zany party game Save Your Nuts. Don’t worry, there’s DLC for some bigger titles too: Fallout 76 grows with the free Wastelanders update, and Journey to the Savage Planet has the Hot Garbage expansion.

    Fallout 76 – Wastelanders — April 14

Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Fallout 76 is already a sizable game, but it’s growing even larger thanks to the addition of NPCs. Raiders and Settlers are returning to the game’s West Virginia setting, bringing new quests, enemies, and gear with them. The addition of actual human characters also means the return of dialogue trees, S.P.E.C.I.A.L. speech checks, and quest-changing choices. Wastelanders is free for anyone who owns Fallout 76, and if you already own the PC version, you’ll get the Steam version at no extra cost–that launches the same day as the expansion.

  • SNL Makes The Most Of Quarantine With Call Of Duty: Warzone Twitch Sketch

Saturday Night Live has been on hiatus for several weeks due to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, but the show returned on April 11 for a special remote episode hosted by Tom Hanks. Actors were confined to their homes, and Mikey Day made the most of it with a Twitch stream sketch featuring a very poor Call of Duty: Warzone player.

In the sketch, insufferable content creator “Cam Playz Dat” says he’s playing the new Warzone game, but actually begins a game of free-for-all in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. There is little time for those unfamiliar to discern this as he’s shot roughly one second into the match.

Cam Playz Dat criticizes anyone sniping by his respawn location, which is a tactic commonly used by Twitch viewers in order to kill streamers. Of course, this isn’t the reason he’s dying so quickly. He is just very, very bad at the game, and after snapping at a viewer who makes fun of him with a classic “your mom” comeback, he’s forced to apologize.

  • Apex Legends Developers Say Crossplay Is “Important”, But It’s Not Confirmed Yet

Apex Legends is one of the biggest and best battle royale games out there, but it’s missing what many consider an important or essential feature–console crossplay, which would allow PS4 and Xbox One players to team up or fight against each other. In a new interview with Game Informer magazine (as relayed by GameSpot sister site Comicbook.com), general manager Dusty Welch and director Chad Grenier have talked about wanting to include this feature.

Welch told the magazine that they saw how crossplay is now “something that is kind of expected in the industry and is important to a game like ours.” He says that he and Grenier personally play on different systems at home, and wish they could team up.

“On a personal level, yes, we’d love to do that and party up on the weekends,” Welch says. “I think it’s an important thing to get to.”

The video is no longer on Instagram, but one Twitter user, OhMrZack, managed to capture it. It’s embedded below.

  • Halo 2: Anniversary Expands PC Testing But You Probably Still Can’t Get In

Halo: The Master Chief Collection‘s release on PC continues, with developer 343 Industries expanding the testing phase for Halo 2 and Halo 2: Anniversary. The developer announced on Twitter that “Ring 1” testing has begun, meaning even more people are now being allowed in to the test, but it’s unlikely you’ll get in right away.

Ring 1 includes “external partners” that work with 343 Industries. This ring comprises people from across the world who give feedback to the studio, but it’s not exactly clear who these people might be. If there are any major issues reported, the developer may decide to bring the game back to Ring 0 (which is for internal studio developers). If it all goes well, the beta–or “flight” in the Halo vernacular–will move on to Ring 2, which includes even more external partners. Ring 3, meanwhile, includes members of the public who have joined the free Halo Insider program. A full explanation of the Ring system is available on the Halo website.

PSA: Ring 1 flighting has begun for Halo 2 and Halo 2: Anniversary.

    — Tyler “Postums” Davis (@343Postums) March 30, 2020

This timing is right on schedule, as 343 previously said it was hoping to launch this Halo 2 flighting phase at the end of March.
