  • October's New Free PS Plus Games For PS4, PS3, And Vita Announced

October is here, and that means we’ll soon have a new selection of free PlayStation Plus games to download. Sony has announced the lineup for next month, and it’s an impressive one thanks to the headliner, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Plus subscribers with a PS4 will be able to grab Phantom Pain during the month of October, following its predecessor, Ground Zeroes, which was a Plus freebie back in June 2015. Appropriately enough for Halloween month, PS4 owners will also get Amnesia Collection, a compilation of horror games Amnesia: The Dark Descent and A Machine for Pigs.

Thanks to Cross-Buy, those on PS4 will get a total of four games: Both Vita titles, Hue and Sky Force Anniversary, can be played on the handheld or PS4. And even PS3 owners get a bonus, as Sky Force supports Cross-Buy with the older console as well. That joins Hustle Kings and Monster Jam Battlegrounds as the standard PS3 games for the month.

All six of these games will be available beginning on Tuesday, October 3. You’ll have until November 7 to claim them, but time is running out to grab September’s free PS Plus games, which return to their regular prices on October 3. Additionally, if you haven’t already grabbed the bonus game That’s You, it leaves PS Plus on October 24. PSVR game RIGS also remains free until November 7.

Another bonus offer will be introduced in October for Plus members, as they’ll get closed beta access to Hand of the Gods, the spin-off of Smite. Until November 14, they’re also entitled to a free Plus Pack that consists of a special Galactic Invader Leader skin for Ah Puch, a card back, a player icon, and five Core Packs.

  • Marvel's Jessica Jones, Cloak and Dagger, and Runaways TV Shows Showcased On New Posters

Marvel's Jessica Jones, Cloak and Dagger, and Runaways TV Shows Showcased On New Posters

New York Comic-Con is happening this weekend, and Marvel is using the event to promote no fewer than four of its upcoming TV shows. New seasons of Agents of SHIELD, Jessica Jones, Cloak and Dagger, and Runaways are all in the works, and to mark this, the studio has released some seriously stylish NYCC-exclusive posters.

As you’d expect from a comic convention launch, all the posters are illustrated, emphasising each property’s printed origins. Check them out in the gallery below:

The four shows are all hitting different channels. Agents Of SHIELD enters its fifth season on ABC this winter, while Season 2 of Jessica Jones is expected on Netflix in 2018. The first seasons of Cloak and Dagger and Runaways, meanwhile, will premiere on Freeform and Hulu respectively. Runaways arrives on November 21, with Cloak and Dagger due next year.

A first trailer for Cloak and Dagger was released in April. As for Jessica Jones, it was revealed in August that Season 2 will see the surprising return of a villainous character–click here to find out of who that is.

In related news, the first season of The Punisher is also expected to hit Netflix soon. Following a series of viral teasers, the first full trailer for the highly anticipated show was revealed last month.

GameSpot will be at NYCC this weekend, so keep checking back for the latest news and galleries.

  • New PlayStation VR Model Announced, Here's What's Changed

Sony has announced a new model of its PSVR virtual reality headset. It doesn’t have many headline new features, but it does contain a number of small enhancements to help improve the overall experience of playing in VR.

Firstly, Sony says the new model features “an updated design that enables the stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset and a slimmer, streamlined connection cable.” In addition, the headset’s processor unit now supports HDR pass-through, meaning you don’t need to disconnect the unit–which lies between the PS4 and your TV–to enjoy HDR-enabled content on your TV. Sony notes that this feature can only be used when the VR headset is switched off.

Sony has not yet shared a release date for the new CUH-ZVR2 model, but it has confirmed pricing will remain the same. It also said PSVR’s packaging would change to allow customers to distinguish between the new version and the old CUH-ZVR1 model. All PSVR games will be playable on both versions.

It’s not yet clear whether the new model will come to Europe and Australia; Sony’s announcement blog only mentions North America and no such announcement has been made on Sony’s European or Australian channels. We’ll keep you updated should those regions receive the new edition.

The original PSVR model launched in October 2016. Sony cut the device’s price by $50 in the US earlier this year, at the same time as revealing a new bundle that includes the PlayStation Camera. In our verdict of the first model, we said “it trips up too many times to wholeheartedly recommend at this point.” For more, check out our PSVR review.

  • Top 10 UK Sales Chart: Destiny 2 Dethroned By FIFA 18

FIFA 18 has finished top of the UK physical chart in its first week on sale, sending sci-fi shooter Destiny 2 down to No.2. EA’s football sim is consistently popular in the UK, and this year looks to be no different with another No.1 in the bag for the week ending September 30.

However, according to GamesIndustry.biz–which cites sales monitor Chart-Track–physical sales are down 25% compared to FIFA 17‘s launch. This follows a trend we’ve seen over the past year with games like Call of Duty: Advance Warfare, Watch Dogs 2, and Dishonored 2 all selling less than their respective predecessors. It should of course be noted that FIFA 18 launched on a Friday as opposed to the series’ usual Tuesday slot, meaning this year’s title had less time in which to rack up sales.

Chart-Track also reports that only 1% of FIFA 18’s sales came on Nintendo Switch, with 60% going to PS4 and 37% Xbox One. The Switch version has seemingly suffered low stock at many retailers, however, which no doubt hindered the port’s chances.

At No.3 this week is Forza Horizon 3, which Chart-Track notes was helped by retailer bundles containing FIFA 18. The other big football title, PES 2018, drops out of the top 10 for the first time since launch, now down in No.12. The only other new game this week, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, debuts at No.36.

“It’s off the pitch that EA excels,” we said in our FIFA 18 review. “From the variety of game modes on offer and how everything’s presented, to the constant updates in FUT’s Team of the Week, Daily Objectives, and discussion of real-world happenings in commentary, FIFA 18 captures the world of football and confidently translates it into a video game. On the pitch, however, EA’s soccer series is still lagging far behind PES 2018’s more fluid, satisfying football. This year’s improvements are welcome, but more needs to be done in the coming years if FIFA is to be a world-beater once again.” For more on this year’s football games, check out our in-depth comparison of FIFA 18 vs PES 2018.

You can read the full top 10 sales chart below, courtesy of Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.

Destiny 2's New Faction Rallies Are Live Now, Here's How To Unlock Them

Destiny 2’s Faction Rallies are now live, bringing with them exclusive rewards packages including weapons, armor, and shaders. We can also see the in-game location of Destiny 2‘s Faction Rally leaders Arach Jalaal (who represents Dead Orbit), Lakshmi-2 (Future War Cult), and Executor Hideo (New Monarchy).

Those three characters are now available to talk to in Destiny 2’s Tower. Arach Jalaal and Lakshmi-2 are situated in the Hangar, while Executor Hideo is currently in the Bazaar. We had some trouble finding them at our first attempt, but if you quit to orbit and reload the location, then the trio should appear. Additionally, in order to unlock access to Faction Rallies, you’ll need to complete the campaign and reach level 20.

Faction Rallies see you pledge your allegiance to one of three factions. You can then fight for your faction by simply playing the game. In the process you’ll earn Rewards Tokens, which you can trade for exclusive weapons and emblems, among other items. An in-game description reads: “To earn tokens for Level 20 rewards, destroy supplies in Lost Sectors and do Public Events, Crucible matches, Strikes, and the Leviathan Raid.”

Each faction has a “powerful weapon” that is specific to it–Dead Orbit has a scout rifle, Future War Cult a pulse rifle, and New Monarchy a sidearm. At the end of the event, the faction that collected the most packages is named the winner, and its weapon will be sold to all players for 50,000 glimmer. Members of the winning faction will be able to purchase it for only 1,000 glimmer. The winner will be named at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST on October 3 (3 AM AEST on October 4 in Australia).

Take a look at the leaders’ locations (and the factions’ exclusive powerful weapons) above. For more, check out the latest Destiny 2 update 1.0.3 patch notes or our Destiny 2 raid guide. You can also check out our gallery of all the weapons, gear, and rewards in Destiny 2’s Faction Rallies.

  • VR Space Shooter From Other Suns Open Beta Live Now

The open beta for space-age VR shooter From Other Suns is now live on Oculus Rift. Gather your friends and get ready for a joyride through the Milky Way.

From Other Suns pits you as a pilot destined to save humanity…or, uh, let it die. You’ll have to manage your ship as robots, aliens, and pirates come to destroy you. Do so with up to two friends, or all on your own.

The title is procedurally generated, so every playthrough should feel unique and fresh. The randomization doesn’t just apply to enemies, it extends to weapons, level design, and characters; no two games should ever be the same.

From Other Sun’s open beta is only open until October 1 at 11:59pm PT. The title is expected to launch fully later this fall.

  • Cuphead Has A Secret Mode, Here's How To Unlock It

Cuphead Has A Secret Mode, Here's How To Unlock It

It’s been a long time coming, but Cuphead is finally available. The highly anticipated platformer is notable for its beautiful, 1930s-era cartoon visuals and relentless difficulty, but hidden within the retro-style game is a secret mode that you may not be aware of.

Mild spoilers for Cuphead follow below. If you’d like to unlock the mode yourself, do not read any further.

In Cuphead’s World 3 hub, you’ll notice a turtle sitting by the docks. If you speak to him, the turtle will talk to you about pacifism, hinting that a special bonus awaits if you can clear the game’s platforming levels without shooting any enemies.

If you do complete a level without shooting, you’ll get a P as your grade. The flag you raise for the level will also be denoted with a P. If you manage to do this for all six of the game’s platforming stages (Forest Follies, Treetop Trouble, Funfair Fever, Funhouse Frazzle, Perilous Piers, and Rugged Ridge), return to the turtle and he’ll unlock a black-and-white mode and audio filters to give the game an even more vintage presentation.

Cuphead poses a steep challenge even without a self-imposed restriction like this, so you’ll need to plan the use of your Charms and Super weapons carefully if you want to unlock the black-and-white mode. It should also be noted that you only need to avoid shooting your weapon to earn a P grade; parries, dashing, and the Invincibility Super won’t count against you. You’ll also unlock Expert mode once you clear the game, which makes everything move faster than normal.

Black-and-white isn’t the only kind of filter you can unlock in Cuphead. Also in World 3 is a monocle-wearing fork standing outside the shop. The fork mentions that he is looking for “Grade A” people, and it seems that if you can score an A or above in each of the game’s bosses, he’ll unlock a two-stripe filter, though you may still be able to unlock the filter with a few B grades scattered about your checklist. You can learn more about how to unlock these filters in the video above.

Cuphead is out now for Xbox One and PC. Despite its long delay, the game has earned widespread acclaim from critics. In GameSpot’s Cuphead review, Peter Brown called it “a rare, unique game that truly stands out” and awarded it an 8/10.

  • WWE's Breezango Thinks It's Cool Their Twin Peaks Spoof Gained Mainstream Attention

WWE's Breezango Thinks It's Cool Their Twin Peaks Spoof Gained Mainstream Attention

Over the summer, WWE superstars Tyler Breeze and Fandango, known to fans as the comedic tag team of Breezango, made waves when their Twin Peaks spoof “Fashion Peaks” received mainstream attention from those who don’t typically follow wrestling.

During the WWE 2K18 event at WWE’s archives in Connecticut, the fashion-forward wrestlers spoke to GameSpot about how their weekly segment, known as The Fashion Files, came to be: “It all kinda naturally just happened, man,” explained Breeze. “We kinda stumbled upon something, and then we go, ‘That was kinda cool.’ So then all of a sudden it gets more, and more. Before you know it, you kind of have, you know, a room full of people laughing as you’re filming stuff. You just kinda go, I think this is good.”

Back in May, the Fashion Files segment first aired, which was a spoof of the police procedural Law & Order. From there, the tag team parodied other popular shows from the past including Walker, Texas Ranger, Miami Vice, and The X-Files; however, it was their segment “Fashion Peaks,” which turned everyone’s heads.

“It’s something different that I don’t think we’ve ever done here in the WWE, kind of, spoofing those old television shows,” explained Fandango. “People like it, you know, it brings an outside audience that kinda draws their attention to, ‘What are these guys doing?’ Whether they see the clip on YouTube or whatever. Even, actually, the main actor from Twin Peaks… They get it. They think it’s cool that we’re kinda spoofing them.”

Because the segment aired just a few weeks before Twin Peaks returned for a new season, Fashion Peaks got a lot of attention. “It’s kinda cool when you’re doing stuff like this, and we definitely pride ourselves a lot on hearing back from the fans,” said Breeze. “Kinda hearing what everybody thinks of it. Especially doing this type of stuff. If you turn on Smackdown, or Raw, you’re kind of expecting wrestling. But if you get the Fashion Files, it’s kinda something different, and a lot of people say, ‘Hey, this is my first time watching and I loved it. Because it wasn’t what I was expecting.’ It’s kinda cool hearing that.”

“Huge Twin Peaks fans are now tuning in to watch wrestling to see if these weird dudes are going to do another spoof or not,” Fandango said.

The Fashion Files returns to WWE’s Tuesday night show Smackdown on October 3, and the duo gave us a little taste of what’s coming: “We still got some unsolved mysteries we gotta solve there,” explained Breeze. “We got 2B to figure out. Aiden English is our only lead.” In addition, Fandango went on to say they have some “Hell in the Cell business to take care of,” and they’ll be arresting some culprits leading into the October 8 PPV.

Both Fandango and Tyler Breeze will be playable characters in WWE 2K18, coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 17. In addition, the game will come to Switch at a later date. You can check out every confirmed wrestler in the game here and learn what’s coming to this year’s edition for DLC.
