  • Walmart Black Friday 2017 Ad Deals: All Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, And 3DS Games On Sale

With Black Friday around the corner, Walmart has also released its full flyer for the big shopping day. There are a ton of game deals to take advantage of, particularly for those with a PS4 or Xbox One, with these offers becoming available on Thanksgiving evening (November 23) or Black Friday itself, depending on when your state allows stores to begin opening. Nintendo Switch and 3DS offers are also available, although PC gaming fans unfortunately won’t find anything.

In terms of hardware, the offers are similar to what we’ve seen elsewhere. Switch is in stock, but at a regular price ($299), while there’s no sign of Xbox One X or PS4 Pro. However, you can pick up a 1 TB PS4 for $199, or a 500 GB Xbox One S for $189. Neither of these systems comes with any bundled games, although Walmart will also take $50 off “any” Xbox One S, so you’ll be able to pick from other bundles that have what you want. Walmart will also be among the retailers to offer the special green Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2DS bundle.

In terms of accessories, DualShock 4 PS4 controllers drop to $39 each, including the Walmart-exclusive Crystal Blue color. Xbox One controllers are also available for $39, including some special edition versions. Third-party, wired Switch controllers will be available for $17, while the Gran Turismo Sport PSVR bundle will be $299. You can also get a wired PS4 or Xbox One headset, the Turtle Beach Recon 50P, for $25.

In terms of games, you’ve got a ton of options. On Switch, the new Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Explorer’s Edition is $49, while Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is $19. Unfortunately, due to the way Walmart’s ad is laid out, it’s incredibly difficult to discern some of the featured games. For instance, it looks as if Sonic Forces will be $29 on Switch (as it is on PS4 and Xbox One), but we can’t confirm that at this time; we’ve noted as much below. On other platforms, you’ll find recent releases like Forza Motorsport 7, Need for Speed Payback, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, WWE 2K18, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, The Evil Within 2, and South Park: The Fractured But Whole for $29 each. Horizon: Zero Dawn, Rainbow Six Siege, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and Skyrim: Special Edition are among the games going for $19. The just-released Call of Duty: WWII will be $43.

You’ll find a complete rundown of everything on sale–or as much as we can glean from the flyer–below. You can check out the full flyer, and find out when your local store is opening, on Walmart’s website. For more, check out our roundup of deals at other retailers:

  • Four More Xbox One Backwards Compatible Games Now Available

Microsoft has added another handful of titles to Xbox One‘s backwards compatible catalog. Four more Xbox 360 games are now available to play on the current-generation console.

Headlining the new batch of backwards compatible titles is Persona 4 Arena, the fighting game spin-off of Atlus’s RPG series. It’s joined by Disney’s Cars: Mater-National Championship and the Xbox Live Arcade games, Jewel Quest and Tecmo Bowl Throwback.

As always, if you already own the disc, you can simply pop it into your Xbox One and begin playing; games that you own digitally will be waiting in the Ready to Download section of My Games and Apps. All four titles are also available to purchase from the Xbox Store.

Aside from these four games, November has only brought one other Xbox One backwards compatible title so far: Deadly Premonition, which was added to the backwards compatibility catalog on November 3. Last month, meanwhile, added a number of notable releases, including the first original Xbox backwards compatible games. • Star Wars Battlefront 2 Launch: Reviews, Release Date, Gameplay Videos, And Everything Else You Need To Know

Star Wars Battlefront II is the latest Star Wars game from EA and DICE, and this time around, the developers have made some major changes to the series. Unlike 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront, all of Battlefront II’s DLC characters and maps will be given away for free to all players, but the game introduces microtransactions in the form of loot crates to compensate for that. It also features a full single-player campaign that’s set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens and puts players in the role of Iden Versio, the leader of an Imperial special forces group called the Inferno Squad.

Star Wars Battlefront II releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17. Ahead of the game’s launch, we’ve compiled our most important features and gameplay videos detailing everything you need to know about Star Wars Battlefront II. Check back often as we update this article with our in-depth review, guides, additional articles, and videos. Details will likely continue to change as EA responds to the backlash against loot crates; Battlefront II Hero unlock costs have already changed just before launch. [Update: EA has made an even bigger change, removing Battlefront II’s microtransactions entirely for the time being.]

    Review In Progress

Our full review of Battlefront II is coming soon once we get more time with the live game. Until then, you can read our thoughts in our Star Wars Battlefront II review-in-progress and review roundup. GameSpot critic Alessandro Fillari scored the game a 6/10 and wrote, “While its main narrative feels unresolved, and the general loop of the multiplayer carries a number of issues, Battlefront II still manages to evoke that same sense of joy and excitement found in the core of what the series is all about. But as it stands, the biggest hurdle that Battlefront II will need to overcome–for its simultaneous attempts to balance microtransactions with genuine feeling of accomplishments–is deciding on what type of game it wants to be.”

    Guides & Features

We’ll have in-depth tips and guides for Star Wars Battlefront II in the coming days to help you succeed in the game’s single-player and multiplayer modes. In the meantime, you can check out our guide on how Battlefront II’s complex progression system works, where we detail all of the game’s currencies, Star Cards, and what each of them unlocks.

  • Prepare For The Sims 4 By Watching The Fascinating History Of The Sims Franchise

The Sims 4 launches for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 17, joined by a new pets expansion for the PC version. Ahead of its launch, we thought it would be a good chance to take a trip down memory lane and explore the origins of Will Wright’s popular life simulation series.

Very few games can say they presented something truly original to medium like The Sims did, and even fewer can boast the kind of cultural significance it has. Released in 2000, The Sims allowed players to puppeteer the lives of virtual people, micromanaging every aspect of their existence with no real goal other than whatever they set for themselves.

For some, The Sims provided unparalleled escapism, letting them live out a fantasy life through in-game characters. For others it was an invitation to indulge their creative whims by crafting ideal homes and, of course, there’s also those that indulged their sadistic side by toying with the lives of Sims in cruel but often amusing ways.

The sheer amount of gameplay opportunities The Sims provided–and continues to provide–makes it a series with broad appeal. But the game it is now was formed of numerous building blocks creator Will Wright experimented with in other titles. Wright, one of gaming’s most celebrated luminaries, looked to the works of an MIT scientist, used 3D home design software as a jumping-off point, and even used his daughter for inspiration on the series that would define his career.

The story of The Sims is one of ingenuity, real outside-the-box thinking, and a fair bit of risk-taking. It’s a story that we explore in-depth in the video above. As a self-confessed super fan, Lucy digs deep into the origins of the The Sims, going as far back as Wright’s first game, Raid on Bungeling Bay, and then charts the evolution of his thinking and the resulting game design ideas that came along the way. Alongside this, she also discusses the cultural impact of The Sims as well as some of the stumbling blocks the series, its developer Maxis, and publisher EA faced. Check it out and give us your favourite Sims memories in the comments below.

The Sims 4 is off to a solid start in Australia, with both The Sims 4 and The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack appearing in the sales chart. The new expansion allows players to create a variety of cats and dogs, add them to homes, and care for neighbourhood pets as a veterinarian. You can watch The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs DLC trailer to see some of these cute new arrivals.

  • Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Temporarily Drops Microtransactions, Following Loot Box Controversy

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Temporarily Drops Microtransactions, Following Loot Box Controversy

[UPDATE 3] Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners weighed in on the news on Twitter, pointing out that microtransactions and loot boxes are not going away. “They’re already accepted,” he said. “All that’s happening is EA tweaking the system to make it ‘fun and addictive” instead of ‘intrusive and predatory.”

[UPDATE 2] VentureBeat is reporting that EA CEO Andrew Wilson spoke with Disney CEO Bob Iger over the phone today before the Battlefront II changes were announced. The report doesn’t mention what they might have talked about, though a chat about Battlefront II’s loot crate system seems more likely than discussing plans for the weekend.

[UPDATE] EA released a statement on Battlefront II’s microtransactions, confirming they have been removed, but only temporarily. “We’ve heard the concerns about potentially giving players unfair advantages,” DICE boss Oskar Gabrielson said. “And we’ve heard that this is overshadowing an otherwise great game. This was never our intention. Sorry we didn’t get this right.”

All in-game purchases for Battlefront II are now removed, with all progression now exclusively tied to gameplay. EA is bringing back microtransactions “at a later date,” but not until the studio has time to make unspecified “changes to the game.” More details on this changes will come later as DICE considers more feedback and date. One possibility is that Battlefront II’s microtransactions will return as cosmetic only, as is the case in Overwatch and other games, though this is just speculation.

“We have created a game that is built on your input, and it will continue to evolve and grow,” Gabrielson explained.

As it stands, all of Battlefront II’s DLC maps will be free, though there is no word as of yet about if today’s announcement changes anything. The removal of the game’s microtransactions comes just hours before Battlefront II is due to launch everywhere on November 17, though as mentioned, it’s been available for some already.

Microtransaction systems are commonplace in AAA games today. In fact, it is rare for a big game to not have a microtransaction system. What’s different about Battlefront II’s system is that players could spend real money for the chance to unlock items and weapons that actually affect gameplay, and that’s part of the reason why players got so stirred up. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto Online also offers microtransactions, and they make parent publisher Take-Two lots and lots of money.

    The original story is below.

It looks like big changes may be in the works for Star Wars: Battlefront II‘s microtransaction system. It was discovered today that you can no longer purchase the game’s virtual currency, Crystals, with real money.

Accessing the Crystals purchase page on Xbox One today yields the screen below. As you can see, it does not give you the option to buy Crystals. However, you can still purchase them through the Xbox.com store, at least for the time being (though that may have something to do with Microsoft, not EA, controlling that page). We’re working to confirm the situation on PlayStation 4 and PC. Keep checking back for more.

    No Caption Provided

Star Wars: Battlefront II’s microtransaction/loot crate system has been highly contentious and controversial running back to when players discovered how the system worked in October’s open beta. Loot boxes come with random items, but instead of things that are cosmetic only, they can also contain game-affecting things like deadlier grenades or cloaking abilities that give players a theoretical advantage.

Naturally, some portion of the audience did not enjoy this. Developer DICE made major changes to the credit-unlock values for heroes, reducing the in-game currency cost by 75 percent for characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. However, no changes were made to the actual microtransaction system, at least until now.

Today’s action comes just a day after Belgium’s gambling authority launched an investigation into Battlefront II (and Overwatch) over concerns that its loot crate system could constitute gambling. In response to that, EA came out with a statement that stressed that Battlefront II’s loot crates “are not gambling.”

Earlier this week, DICE held a Reddit AMA in which it responded to, among other things, concerns about Battlefront II’s microtransactions. The developer said microtransactions are available as an optional way to potentially speed up your progression. Everything that you can get in a loot crate can also be obtained via gameplay.

“Regarding microtransactions, we want players to enjoy their progression through the game and want gameplay to be fair along the way,” the developer said. “Microtransactions are there for player choice, but won’t be a requirement to play or succeed at the game. And like everything else, we’ll continue tweaking and tuning until we achieve these goals.”

Destiny 2 Xur Location Guide: Where Is Xur And What Exotics Is He Selling? (November 17)

Seven whole days have passed since Xur last appeared in Destiny 2 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, which means he’s had an opportunity run off, steal a few more Exotics off the back of a lorry (we presume this is how he keeps getting them), and now he’s back trying to sell them to Guardians again.

This week Xur is hanging out on Titan. This is one of the spots he frequents, so if you been playing Destiny 2 for a while you’ll probably have been here before. For all you new players, all you need to do is fly on down to The Rig, head straight on the left, and you’ll find him hiding in a room on ground level. If you’re having trouble, open the map and put a waypoint on him and you can follow that. We’ve got details on what he’s offering below.

Destiny 2‘s limited-time multiplayer event, Iron Banner, will return on November 21. The game mode this time is Clash, which is Destiny 2’s version of Team Deathmatch. This is the first Iron Banner event since Destiny 2 launched for PC at the end of October. Developer Bungie recently revealed lots of new details about the Destiny 2’s first expansion, Curse of Osiris, which will launch in December. In addition to seeing the first campaign mission, it will have Raid Lairs and some Curse of Osiris gear, as well as the newly revamped Lighthouse area. The DLC releases on December 5, at which time the weekly reset schedule will change and Destiny 2 will receive Xbox One X and PS4 Pro enhancements.

As part of the most recent Destiny 2 server maintenance, Bungie released an update dubbed “The one before Curse of Osiris.” It’s primarily concerned with resolving some lingering issues with the game, rather than introducing any new content or features. You can read more about Destiny 2’s update 1.0.7 for PC, PS4, Xbox One here.

5 New Images Of PUBG's Upcoming Desert Map Revealed

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has had one–and only one–map since it launched earlier this year. But it won’t always be like that, since developer Bluehole is working on a couple of new maps for the game. We know the most about an upcoming desert locale, and it seems like players are not that far off from getting to play it.

Now, hardware manufacturer Nvidia has released five new images of the map that give an idea of what’s in store. Compared to the current map, the desert location looks desolate, open, and more flat, filled with ruins and low-lying buildings. Take a look in the gallery below.

There’s still no word on when, exactly, the new map will arrive, but it’ll likely be after PUBG officially launches on PC in late December. PUBG is also slated to be released on Xbox One in Early Access on December 12.

Some of the 1.0 update’s main features, such as vaulting and climbing, are currently available for testing on PUBG’s test server. Motivated users discovered references to new vehicles and the layout of the desert map hidden within the test server.

Check Out Latest Star Wars: The Last Jedi Poster And Trailers

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now less than a month from theaters, and there’s no shortage of promotional material to check out. The latest releases include a new poster and a series of TV spots that provide a look at some previously unseen footage.

The poster promotes the movie’s IMAX release and continues the red color scheme of previous designs. You can check it out below, while the latest TV spots are at the end of this story.

The Last Jedi is directed by Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, and Andy Serkis. It hits theaters on December 15.

Unsurprisingly, the movie is expected to have a huge opening weekend at the box office. Early first-weekend projections have predicted that the film will make $215 million in the US over its first three days. While that would be below The Force Awakens‘ first-weekend haul of $247 million, it would still be the second-biggest of all time, ahead of Jurassic World‘s $208 million opening in 2015.

In related news, it was revealed last week that Johnson will write and direct a new Star Wars trilogy. Work on the next set of movies will begin after the release of JJ Abrams’ Episode IX in 2019. In addition, Disney is planning a live-action Star Wars TV show, which will be available on its upcoming streaming service.

    Here are the TV spots:
