  • Rumor: Red Dead Redemption II Companion App Points To Potential PC Release

Rumor: Red Dead Redemption II Companion App Points To Potential PC Release

According to a report by RockstarIntel, certain files hidden inside Red Dead Redemption II’s mobile companion app suggest the title could be heading to PC in the future.

RockstarIntel’s article lists tons of parameters that suggest this rumor, such as these:

    PARAM_Oculus
    PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpDurango
    PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpOrbis
    PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpPC

You can read the full list of PC-related parameters here. The parameters that list Oculus and PC in particular propose that Rockstar is working on bringing Red Dead Redemption to the platform. However, without any confirmation from Rockstar, this remains purely speculation.

If Red Dead Redemption is on its way to PC, it could be a lengthy wait, too. For example, Grand Theft Auto V PC players had to wait nearly 19 months for its arrival after its console releases.

  • Report: Fallout 76 Isn't Coming To Nintendo Switch Because It “Wasn't Doable,” Bethesda Says

Report: Fallout 76 Isn't Coming To Nintendo Switch Because It “Wasn't Doable,” Bethesda Says

At a PAX Australia panel yesterday, Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines confirmed that Fallout 76 won’t be coming to the Nintendo Switch because it simply “wasn’t doable.” Although we’ve seen a handful of Bethesda products come to Switch, including Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, Skyrim, and Doom, Bethesda says that despite its efforts, the company is unable to bring its latest title to the console.

Hines said that Bethesda always considers the Switch for its products, but these deliberations don’t always pan out. Bethesda’s individual teams are allowed to choose what’s best for their games, including which consoles to support.

“The Switch is something I can say with certainty that it’s a part of every conversation with every dev we have now about what we’re doing going forward because we consider it to be a viable platform,” he said. “If the game will work on it, we want it to be on every platform possible. Fallout 76 is not because it just wasn’t doable. But honestly, there is no game in development that we haven’t had a conversation about [bringing it to Switch]. ‘Does this work on the Switch, do you have a plan for the Switch?’ It’s not a mandate. Everything we do has to be developer-led, but it’s something we want to make sure is on folks’ radar.”

“I enjoy us being seen as the third-party leader in terms of supporting Switch,” he said. “People go, ‘Hey, you’ve got a lot more stuff [on Switch] than this publisher or that publisher.’ That’s what I want Bethesda to be known as. We’re guys who will take some risks.”

Moreover, Hines brings up that like most companies, one of Bethesda’s biggest concerns is profitability. Bethesda wants to keep supporting the Nintendo Switch because it believes it is a “viable platform” for its future projects.

“You go where the money is because that’s how you stay in business,” he said.

Additionally, during the panel, he hinted that the “next Wolfenstein” game is coming to Switch. Whether he’s speaking about the upcoming standalone title Wolfenstein: Youngblood or the third major entry to the series is unclear.

At a later date, both Doom Eternal and The Elder Scrolls Legends are heading to Switch.

  • The Evil Within II Halloween Update Adds New Difficulty, Cheats

Last year’s The Evil Within II got a new update just in time for Halloween, letting you make the game as easy or difficult as you want.

Version 1.05 of The Evil Within II adds “New features for Bethesda.Net members,” and some bug fixes. That sounds vague at first, but Gearnuke reports the features include a new Akumu (English: “Nightmare”) difficulty, as well as the option to turn on infinite stamina, super strength, and invincibility. The Evil Within II can be severely punishing at first, so the cheats may help you get over the initial hump while you get your bearings, and veteran players who love the game’s weighty combat can get a new kick out of a higher difficulty.

  • Former Runic, Gearbox Developers Form Monster Squad Games, Working On Co-op Action Game

Former Runic, Gearbox Developers Form Monster Squad Games, Working On Co-op Action Game

Eight former developers from the likes of Runic Games (Torchlight, Hob) and Gearbox Software have spun off to form Monster Squad games, and are working on a gameplay-focused co-op game.

PC Gamer has the lowdown on the studio’s announcement. According to them, the studio’s Monster Squad’s first project will be “a co-op game with a mixture of shooting and melee combat against AI opponents,” with loot, and likely will not have a competitive aspect. Although the background of the studio’s member suggests the game may be an isometric or first-person game, the studio stated the perspective would be “something new” for them, which could mean a third-person action game.

The team is also focusing heavily on gameplay, and wants to development to be a dialogue with the community, which is why the studio plans to throw the game into an early access period. “It’s really motivating to make something and then put it in front of players right away,”  Monster Squad co-founder John Dunbar told PC Gamer. “You find out what works, what doesn’t work, and what’s missing really fast, and if you put things out right after making them then the community can be a real part of the conversation about what the game is going to be.”

For more on how Monster Squad Games came together and glean more insight into what kind of game it may make, make sure to read PC Gamer’s entire feature on the studio.

  • Next Destiny 2 Update Lowers Exotic Duplicate Drops, Adds Refer-A-Friend Quest

The next big Destiny 2: Forsaken update, 2.0.5, arrives next Tuesday, bringing with it some big quality-of-life improvements and a new questline for getting your friends to play the game.

The most important change the update makes is to how exotic weapons and armor will drop. Exotics are currently hyper-rare in Forsaken (far moreso than they were in vanilla Destiny 2), and players would often get the same exotics, often from year one, multiple times. This won’t be the case come October 30, when the update hits.

While Bungie had previously announced this change, it detailed how the change would work this week. “When you’re receiving an exotic, we will take into account all exotics you’ve found, and weight them against Exotics you have yet to acquire; this lowers the chances of receiving Exotics you already own,” Bungie says on its official blog. Armor pieces will be more much more common, too, since they have random rolls (making duplicates useful), and exotics received from quests are no longer in the pool of loot you can get from an exotic engram.

Additionally, Masterwork cores will be retitled Enhancement cores. These new cores, which are still used for infusing weaker items with stronger ones, will be easier to get; they’ll drop from the Spider’s weekly bounties, as well as Scrapper bounties that come from dismantling gear.

Finally, along with some buffs to Trace Rifles and quest exotics Wish-Ender and Malfeasance, The October 30 update will add a new refer-a-friend questline, which will offer bonuses to the both the veteran player who recruits a new player and the newbie. This includes a new shader for ships, sparrows, and an ornament for the exotic sniper rifle Borealis, as well as a new emblem, all of which have scaly glow that changes color over time.

Any player who currently owns Destiny 2 qualifies as a veteran, while only those who’ve owned Destiny 2: Forsaken for fewer than seven days qualify as a new player.

For the full breakdown of weapon changes and quality-of-life changes, check out the full blog post.

    [Source: Bungie]

The refer-a-friend quest comes a bit too late for me, unfortunately – I recently had someone make the switch from PC to PS4, which would have been the perfect time for them to be a “new player” for the refer-a-friend program. Oh well. The masterwork and exotic changes are a delight to see, as I’ve yet to get the 10 new exotics necessary to complete a trophy requirement.

With no sign of patch 7.20 in sight, competitive teams are going to have keep toughing 7.19d of Dota 2 for a little while longer. But that only makes the meta more stable, right? • NieR: Automata's 2B Is Coming To Soulcalibur VI

NieR: Automata's 2B Is Coming To Soulcalibur VI

Bandai Namco has announced that everyone’s favorite android who kills lots of other robots but ends feeling kind of bad about it, 2B, is coming to their weapons-based fighter.

The company dropped a trailer featuring NieR: Automata’s 2B (a Square Enix crossover character) as she encounters Ivy in the far-off future, then facing off against various characters. She looks to have a number of air combos and a dodge, similar to what she used in NieR:Automata. Accompanying her release will be new parts for the character creation tool, new music, and weapons. You can watch the trailer below.

Bandai Namco stated the character is “Coming Soon,” and will be part of the game’s Season Pass, along with Tira and two other characters.

For more on Soulcalibur VI, check out our review, as well as our collection of all the silly user-created characters we’ve seen so far, one of which actually was 2B.

  • Weekend Warrior – That One With The Horses

Weekend Warrior – That One With The Horses

Here we are again. Another week down, another weekend to look forward to. Big surprise, most of us will be playing Red Dead. If you’re doing something extraordinary like cooking for yourself, or not playing Red Dead Redemption 2, let us know in the comments below. Or if you’re playing Red Dead Redemption 2, well, we’d still like to know about it.

Brian Shea (@brianpshea) – I just wrapped up the main story of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey after 43 hours. I don’t really want to do any more side missions right now, but I feel like I have some unfinished business with a certain cult, so I’m going to be hunting the members of that organization down. After I wrap up that endeavor, it’s time to start the horse boys game.

Jeff Cork (@gijeff) – Here comes something that will blow your mind: I’m going to play Red Dead Redemption II this weekend. I’ll do my best to try out stuff in the game that other people in this roundup aren’t doing, just to make it interesting, though. And I might play a few rounds of Overwatch, too. Ta dah!

Ben Hanson (@yozetty) – This Red Dead game is really going to dampen my Blackout fun. A gamer just can’t catch a break this year! I have Red Dead Redemption II and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it once I boot it up, but right now I’m scared of the scope of that beast! It’s going to be a wild adventure. Have a good weekend… and yee-ha or whatever!

Dan Tack (@dantack) – Baked brie wedge wrapped in puff pasty served with capicola, jalapeno garlic aioli, Carolina reaper sauce, and fresh naan bread. It’s an eclectic and electric little appetizer to stoke the fires before the main course.

Move on to some beer-battered fries loaded with cracked black pepper -the real stuff – as the side dish to an epic mac’n’cheese entrée. This one is loaded with pulled pork, fried egg, chorizo, bacon, and jalapenos and topped with roasted chicken and Tack’s signature Sourdough Sidekickers.

Suriel Vasquez (@SurielVazquez) – I’m working my way through Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, which is much longer than I thought it’d be! Hopefully when I get into the Gwent multiplayer people will be nice to me and not beat me up. If I have any free time this weekend, I’ll watch the second season of the Netflix Castlevania show. The first season is good, so I hope this one is also good!

Kyle Hilliard (@KyleMHilliard) – I’m sure it reads like a broken record here, but I will be playing Red Dead Redemption II this weekend as much as possible. I’m about an hour in so far and am very engaged with gang and the story that’s been set up – I can’t wait to go deeper. Outside of exploring the old west, my daughter has two birthday parties this weekend, so she will be busy. Otherwise, it will be a lot of laundry and a lot of cleaning. You know, fun stuff that people love.

Leo Vader (@leovader) – I am so amped for Red Dead but if I’m being realistic, I bet I’ll spend more time in Maple Story 2 than RDR. That game has its hooks in me. Me and my friends are making all of our houses interconnected and tonight we’re gonna work together on building a giant toilet. RDR GOTY my ass. Have a good weekend!!!!

JP Gemborys (@JPGemborys) – Another week down, another weekend without a console. I’ll probably do the next best thing and pick the dirt out of my fingernails, stare up at the ceiling fan and contemplate how horrible everything is. Probably make some BLTs.

Imran Khan (@imranzomg) – This weekend, I am not playing Red Dead…yet. I want to dive deeper into Blackout for a bit first and I’m banging my head against the awful and cheating Soulcalibur VI Libra of Soul story mode. I’m also working on a few other projects that I’ll touch this weekend.

  • Epic Raises $1.25 Billion In Investment Capital

Epic Games, the studio behind titles like Fortnite and, well, Fortnite for the foreseeable future, has announced today that they have raised $1.25 billion, with a b, in investment capital. Turns out having the biggest game in the world gets a lot of people to want to give you money in the hopes that they get money back in return.

Seven investors, KKR, ICONIQ Capital, Smash Ventures, aXiomatic, Vulcan Capital, Kleiner Perkins, and Lightspeed Venture Partners, have joined Epic’s current investors of Tencent, Endeavor, and Disney, as minority shareholders. Epic is still controlled from within, but the company plans to introduce “unique partnerships” with their new investors.

The cavalcade of investors comes as Epic continues to maintain a strong grip on the game’s market. Fortnite numbers have not fluctuated much, indicating that Epic’s highly responsive community management and iterative seasons seem to be doing well for the battle royale game. The game is also just still making a lot of money and that will continue unabated for some time.

Fortnite’s season 7 is expected to start in early December.
