  • A Nine-Foot Lego D.Va Statue Will Be At BlizzCon

Overwatch Lego sets are on the way, and there’s a good chance they’ll be unveiled during this weekend’s BlizzCon. The Lego Group today revealed a massive, nine-foot Lego D.Va statue that will be on display during the convention.

Constructed from 145,276 Lego pieces (43,853 of which are pink), this statue weighs 1,256 pounds, and took 731 hours to build. While this is just a statue, odds are it represents one of the sets fans will be able to purchase, and likely gives us our first-look at D.Va’s minifigure design.

Let’s hope D.VA and her mech are one of the smaller sets that releases, and she doesn’t end up as a part of a larger battle set that will cost a small fortune. Let us know what you hope to see from Overwatch’s Lego debut in the comments section below.

The evocative score has additional production and arrangement by Jeff Silverman (Truth and Soul) and other musical score and orchestration by Colin Stetson (Hereditary). Other notable contributors include David Ferguson (Johnny Cash’s engineer), David Ralicke (Sons of Anarchy), Gabe Witcher (True Detective), Luke O’Malley, Mario Batkovic (of Geoff Barrow’s Invada), Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Superwolf, Iggy Pop, Bonnie Prince Billy), Rabih Beaini and Senyawa, along with 110 other musicians including Arca (Bjork, Kanye West, Frank Ocean and Kelela collaborator), Duane Eddy (Lee Hazlewood protégé), Jon Theodore (former drummer of Mars Volta and current Queens of the Stone Age drummer), Michael Shuman aka Mikey Shoes (Queens of the Stone Age, Mini Mansions) and more.

  • Digital Card Game Eternal Coming To Xbox One

Digital Card Game Eternal Coming To Xbox One

Dire Wolf Digital’s (previous developers of The Elder Scrolls: Legends) free-to-play digital card game Eternal is coming to console in November on Xbox One. The title is currently available on mobile and Steam, and already has a few expansions and other content offerings launched.

Eternal features casual play, ranked play, limited play, event tournaments, and even single-player options for those that are uncomfortable taking on other players in matches or just want a more relaxing game. Taking advantage of its digital backdrop, it has mechanics that change and evolve cards over the course of a game, shooting them back into your deck, adding new cards to decks, and retaining status changes on cards as they shift from play to discard pile.

Eternal also offers cross-platform play, so Xbox One players can play against users on Steam, iOS, and Android.

    Our Take
I’ve played a good deal of Eternal on Steam (I run a Revenge deck that uses the aforementioned mechanic to keep bringing threats back over and over, and have also played a great many drafts) and I’m glad to see more card game options coming to console. If you’re a fan of Magic: The Gathering, Hearthstone, or other big players in the space and haven’t found something that syncs up with you on console, you should give it a shot.

  • Report: Players Who Create 'Inappropriate' Custom Characters In Soulcalibur VI Now Risk A Ban

Report: Players Who Create 'Inappropriate' Custom Characters In Soulcalibur VI Now Risk A Ban

Soulcalibur VI features a fairly robust create-a-character mode. It also lets you take any character you create into the online competitive modes, including ranked. You can see how that might cause issues from a mile away, but Bandai Namco looks to be on the case.

According to a translated message on the official Soulcalibur VI Japanese website, players who make “inappropriate characters” now risk having their accounts banned from online play.

The exact definition of “inappropriate” is somewhat vague. There are plenty of characters loaded with mundane objects that, when put together, create obscene imagery, but also characters who obscure the entire screen, change the hitboxes of certain attacks, or take one character swap it out for another in an attempt to confuse opponents in ranked matches. We’ve reached out to Bandai Namco to clarify and will update this article should they reply.

For now, check out our review of Soulcalibur VI, as well as some of the wackier creations you may no longer get too see online.

I think the best fix for this issue is to simply ban custom characters in ranked, then just leave the player lobbies as is. When people are trying to grind ranking points to prove themselves, it can frustrating to run into a character meant to throw others off or troll them. But if people want to battle giant cubes for hours and hours in a one-off lobby, let them.

  • Battlefield V Will Have A Virtual Currency For Cosmetics Implemented After Launch

Battlefield V Will Have A Virtual Currency For Cosmetics Implemented After Launch

With Battlefield V being the first major game from DICE after last year’s Star Wars: Battlefront II upended the table on multiplayer FPS microtransactions, the studio has been cautious with both how they approach and how they discuss the revenue model with Battlefield V. Today, DICE and EA explained how it will work, and seem to at least be trying to avoid the pay-to-win reputation that dogged Battlefront II.

Battlefield V will have two currency options: Company coin and Battlefield currency. Company coin is earned in-game through daily missions, career rank progression, and live events. You use company coin to purchase new equipment, skins, and general gear, as well as new skill upgrades and cosmetics. The plainly named Battlefield currency, which is purchased with real money, can only be spent on cosmetics.

To put it simply, everything can be bought using in-game money, but you can shortcut your way to cosmetics by spending real money.

Moreover, Battlefield currency will not be available at launch, though cosmetics themselves will. The choice mirrors EA’s decision to turn off Battlefront II’s ability to buy virtual currency until a few months later, though DICE explains that they want players to have hands-on time with the game before allowing currency to be sold. It is possible that the studio plans to launch it alongside the now-delayed Battle Royale mode coming in March.

DICE used the post to reconfirm their commitment to making sure nothing purchasable within Battlefield V unbalances the game, an important note for players worried about a pay-to-win model rearing an ugly head over this year’s title.

Battlefield V releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 20.

I would rather they not have the virtual currency at all, honestly. While I am glad they are limiting it to cosmetics, the addition of live events makes me suspect some cosmetics are going to be time-limited to encourage just paying the money to get it. That said, maybe that’s still a better situation than random lootbox drops that also cost money.
