  • Contra-Inspired Shooter Blazing Chrome Arriving In 2019, Also Coming To Switch

Contra-Inspired Shooter Blazing Chrome Arriving In 2019, Also Coming To Switch

It would be difficult to set out to make a game like Contra and not have it look exactly like Contra, so why not just lean into it instead? That’s pretty much what Blazing Chrome is setting out to do and it was obvious when we first took note of it at PAX East earlier this year, but every new trailer completely reinforces it. The developer has announced that you’ll be running and gunning in early 2019 and have officially announced a Switch version will come in tow.

Check out the new environments trailer below.

Developer JoyMasher has announced that the game will be releasing in early 2019, just missing its 2018 target date. However, this does give time for the newly-announced Switch release to launch alongside the other versions, so you can take it on the go from day one.

Blazing Chrome releases on PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC early next year.

  • Command & Conquer And Red Alert Remastered Announced

Command & Conquer And Red Alert Remastered Announced

Last month, EA announced an intention to bring Command & Conquer back in the form of remasters, rather than the mobile endeavor the company showed off at E3 earlier this year. Far quicker than anyone thought, EA is seemingly ready to announce exactly what it has been cooking up, today announcing remasters for Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command & Conquer: Red Alert, with all the expansions in tow.

Tiberian Dawn is the working title for what was simply released as Command & Conquer, the original 1995 PC game from Westwood Studios. It makes a lot of sense for the first game in the series to be chosen, but EA have also heard from the community that Red Alert is a more well-loved game, so that is also getting the remaster treatment.

“We have decided to remaster Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn,” creative director Jim Vessella writes in a blog post for the announcement. “And while this is incredibly exciting on its own, we’re also aware of how passionate the community is about the Red Alert universe. So, we will also remaster the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert™.  But what about the classic expansion packs you may ask – Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath?  Well, C&C and Red Alert wouldn’t be the same without them, so all three expansion packs will be bundled with the base games into one remastered collection – without microtransactions.”

Additionally, EA is contracting Nevada developer Petroglyph Games for the remaster, a studio made up of former Westwood staff that got together when EA shut Westwood down in 2003 to assimilate into EA Lost Angeles, which is now called DICE Los Angeles. Basically what this means is that the two remastered games will be made by many of the developers who worked on the titles originally.

“Joe Bostic is known as the co-creator of C&C, having also served as the Lead Programmer on Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert. Steve Tall joined Joe as a Lead Programmer on Red Alert, and Mike Legg contributed to all forms of audio systems at Westwood, having been an employee since 1986! All three members helped start Petroglyph Games in 2003 after the closure of Westwood and are joined by a veteran group of RTS developers from the past 15+ years. And don’t think we haven’t noticed the #1 request from the community in all the comments from the past month…  You want Frank Klepacki. So as a cherry on top for the fans, we are thrilled to announce that Frank will be re-joining Petroglyph Games to be our Composer and Audio Director for the remaster collection!”

EA notes that the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection has yet to even start development, so it might be some time before we see anything from this, but they do seem to be handling it appropriately for a company that was once stringently against remasters of any kind.

  • Guilty Plea In Deadly Swatting Crime

Guilty Plea In Deadly Swatting Crime

Tyler Barriss has pleaded guilty in a case related to calling in false claims to police, which led to a SWAT team being dispatched, and the accidental killing of an innocent man who lived at the designated address.

The fatal situation initially arose because of a paltry $1.50 bet between two men in Call of Duty: World War II, Shane Gaskill and Casey Viner. Gaskill dared Viner to send the SWAT team to his house because of a disagreement over the bet. Viner then convinced Barriss to make the call.

Gaskill had given a previous address, and the SWAT team instead descended on the current home of Andrew Finch, who had no connection to the disagreement, and who was killed in the ensuing incident.

This was clearly not the only time that Barriss has been involved in these sort of false claims. He has also pled guilty to dozens of other false reports and bomb threats.

Barriss has not yet faced sentencing. Viner and Gaskill are also facing charges, but have not yet faced trial.

    Our Take
The unfolding legal cases around this event offer ample evidence of the real-world consequences of false crime reporting, and swatting in particular. Everything about the initial event is infuriating.

  • Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Game From Pokémon Go Creators Coming In 2019

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Game From Pokémon Go Creators Coming In 2019

Pokémon Go developers Niantic have released a few more details about their next AR title, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which it has announced is coming some time in 2019.

Today’s tweet and clip doesn’t reveal a lot, but the basic premise is that players must join the newly formed Statute of Secrecy Task Force which is charged from protecting the wizarding world from Muggle eyes. Traces of magic are appearing in the Muggle world, something the Ministry of Magic is dubbing “The Calamity,” and it’s up to you and your fellow witches and wizards to tame this “magical disorder.”

Niantic hasn’t outlined the title’s gameplay just yet, but the official website mentions the “advanced casting of multiple spells.” It’s not hard to imagine how this could easily combine with the format we’re already familiar with in Pokémon Go’s.

  • Newest Alita: Battle Angel Trailer Shows More Battle And Some Angel

Alita: Battle Angel, the upcoming movie based on Yukito Kishiro’s 1990 manga of the same name, has been stirring up feelings since its first reveal months ago. The Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron movie wears its anime influences on its sleeve, and its face, and the new trailer reinforces that well.

The trailer shows what’s at stake for Alita, as well as the various dangers she’s going to be facing. You probably trade away a lot of your cyborg advantages when your opponents have blade arms and are also mechanical, but we’ll see how it works out in the actual movie.

Alita: Battle Angel releases in theaters on February 14, 2019.

  • Ashe Is Now Playable In Overwatch

Ashe Is Now Playable In Overwatch

It feels like only yesterday that Ashe, the silver-haired gunslingin’ hero from the southwest, was announced for Overwatch. It was in fact several yesterdays, as Ashe has now been moved from the playable test realm servers to now being available for everyone, so you don’t need to wait long to start using her.

Ashe was announced at Blizzcon earlier this month as part of McCree’s animated short, hinting at a past between the two old westerners. You can check out her overview trailer below, showing off her various moves and her ultimate, summoning a robot cohort named Bob.

Alongside Ashe also comes the newest Overwatch patch, where a few changes roll out for other heroes. Mercy, Symmetra, Reaper, and Roadhog all earn themselves buffs in this update, which should be good news for beleaguered Mercy fans who have been watching her get systematically nerfed after an overcompensation rework last year.

You can take this new patch, and the new character within it, for a spin right now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

  • Couple Ordered To Pay Nintendo $12 Million For Running Illegal ROM Sites

Couple Ordered To Pay Nintendo $12 Million For Running Illegal ROM Sites

Arizona couple Jacob Matthias and Cristian Matthias have been ordered to pay over $12 million to Nintendo for running the pirated ROM sites, LoveROMS.com and LoveRetro.co. The couple admitted to copyright and trademark infringement, and allegedly settled on the lofty judgement rather than risk losing more in a suit Nintendo brought forth in July.

Many have speculated that the high figure is meant to deter other sites from offering pirated ROMs, and indeed many other sites have shutdown following Nintendo’s legal action.

Loveroms once offered pirated ROMs of games like Pokémon Yellow, Donkey Kong Country, and Mario Kart 64. The site has since shutdown and now only offers a simple message titled, “Apology to Nintendo.”

The ruling is a major coup for Nintendo who will take ownership of the sites, and receive all Nintendo games and hardware still in the couple’s possession. The ruling also included a permanent injunction ensuring that the couple will not infringe on Nintendo’s copyrighted material ever again.

    [Source: TorrentFreak

    Our Take
This lawsuit and subsequent ruling shows Nintendo means business when it comes to its copyrighted material. We wouldn’t be surprised to see other pirated ROM sites shutting down as a result.

  • Gale Force, The Next DLC Character For My Hero One's Justice, Arrives Tomorrow

Gale Force, The Next DLC Character For My Hero One's Justice, Arrives Tomorrow

Bandai Namco is not shy about adding DLC characters to its fighting games, whether it’s adding 2B or Negan to their banner fighting games, or going in heavy on the Saiyans in Dragon Ball FighterZ. That stays true in My Hero One’s Justice, where Bandai Namco has already introduced the fire-based superhero Endeavor as pre-order DLC and has now announced Gale Force as the next character for the roster.

Inasa Yoarashi will be coming to all versions of the game on November 14, bringing his wind-based powers to the 3D fighting game. Gale Force is a first-year student at Shiketsu High School and stands out as the top of his class, though mysteriously withdrew his application from U.A. despite being a shoo-in for admission.

Gale Force comes along with a mission pack, much like Endeavor did when he became available. Bandai Namco has not announced pricing for the character, but previous characters have released at $2.99.
