2 discs, remember.
Remember back at E3 2019 when Square Enix said that Final Fantasy VII Remake would ship on two Blu-ray discs? Well, it wasn’t kidding. Images of the game’s Korean cover have made it online, and the back of the box confirms that the long awaited role-playing release will be at least 100GB in size. Jeez.

Client can be upgraded to full game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s hotly anticipated Battle Royale mode is one of the worst kept secrets in the video game industry right now, and more intel is tumbling out. VGC, citing development sources, reports that the collaboration between Infinity Ward and Raven Software will roll out in early March – assuming everything goes to plan behind-the-scenes.
Perhaps most interestingly, the website claims that it’ll be available both within Modern Warfare as a patch and as a free standalone download from the PlayStation Store. Those who opt for the latter will be able to purchase an upgrade to the full version of the first-person shooter, which will unlock the campaign and competitive multiplayer.

A co-op Aliens game in pre-production was cancelled after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox.
3D Realms vice president Frederik Schreiber (via VG247) posted about the game on Twitter in response to a tweet from Cliff Bleszinski where he also revealed his former studio Boss Key Productions was potentially going to make an Aliens game.
Yup. Game was called Aliens: Hadleys Hope. We went quite far into pre-production before the Disney/Fox acquisition, and then we had to cancel it, and move on with something else.
Maybe some day! I bet yours was very different than ours? pic.twitter.com/brpq4FgwWT

Schreiber reveals the game was to be titled Aliens: Hadley’s Hope and would take place on a planet with numerous Alien Queens which could only be defeated after a few successful rounds of PvE against her protectors.

It boasted the use of teamwork and tactics where colonists and marines would fight together to defeat the Aliens and complete other objectives, like egg hunts, to unlock extra lore and loot.
Last year marked the 40th anniversary for the Alien franchise, which the studio marked by partnering with amateur filmmakers for six original short films. 2019 also brought us the mobile game Alien: Blackout and the Alien: Isolation digital series, which expanded on the 2014 game.

Cross-play support too.
One of the biggest questions heading into the next-generation is how developers will transition its player base for popular online titles from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 5. Will studios simply continue to support the PS4 version through backwards compatibility or will they rerelease them on Sony’s next console to future proof themselves and take advantage of the extra power? It’s a question we probably won’t receive a concrete answer to until the Japanese giant decides to officially unveil the PS5, but some publishers are already taking matters into their own hands.
Ubisoft has appeared to confirm that a PS5 version of Rainbow Six: Siege is currently in the works, targetted to arrive alongside the system on launch day. Game director Leroy Athanassof told Windows Central: “Why I can’t give you a date is because those dates are, in the end, on the people doing the next-gen consoles. What I can tell you is that we are going to be on from launch. When they will release the consoles; but it’s up to them to agree that. For Siege, our target is to be available right at launch.”

Two new PS4 titles in top ten.
If you’ve been following the Yakuza franchise since the dark days when Sony had to step in and localise Yakuza 5 on SEGA’s behalf, then it’s probably refreshing to see a trio of Ryu ga Gotoku re-releases near the top of the UK charts. Yakuza Remastered Collection was actually the biggest new physical launch in Britain last week, despite parts of it deploying digitally over the past six months or so.
Naturally it couldn’t outperform FIFA 20 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which occupied the top two places respectively. It did outsell Dreams in 8th, though, which has been in Early Access since last April – and, honestly, seems more suited to the PlayStation Store. The other big new release, Darksiders: Genesis, narrowly missed out on a top ten finish, settling for 11th position, while the repackaged Street Fighter V: Champion Edition could only climb as high as 37th place.

Here are two reliable gaming facts–if there’s a major game that’s not on Nintendo Switch, owners of the Nintendo console will want a port, and if a port is in the works, it’ll likely be accidentally unveiled by a ratings board. This has once again come to pass, with GameXplain discovering that Catherine: Full Body and XCOM 2 Collection have both been rated for the Switch in Korea.
Neither game has officially been confirmed for release yet, but these age ratings are often a strong indication that the game is coming. These are not the only ports to recently receive ratings, either–in January, the BioShock: The Collection was rated in Taiwan.
Catherine: Full Body is an expanded version of 2011’s Catherine, which added a third love interest and plenty of new content to the game. XCOM 2 Collection contains all previously released content for XCOM 2, making it a sizeable package.
Both games reviewed well, with Catherine: Full Body receiving an 8/10 in our review, and XCOM 2 receiving a 9/10.
The Nintendo Switch is gearing up for a big 2020, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons releasing in March, and plenty of other games due this year.

“I’m not trying to control you, I’m trying to protect you.” Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie sci-fi drama titled Only, the second feature film from up-and-coming filmmaker Takashi Doscher (of Still previously). This originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, and arrives in theaters next month. After a comet releases a mysterious virus that begins to kill all the women in the world, a couple’s relationship is severely tested. They hide out (from both the illness and the savages who hunt the remaining women) in their over-sterilized apartment, until they must venture out into the wilderness once again. Starring Leslie Odom Jr. & Freida Pinto, along with Chandler Riggs, Jayson Warner Smith, Joshua Mikel, Mark Ashworth, and Tia Hendricks. Not an original idea, but perhaps the film is good. ›››
