Analeigh Tipton in First Trailer for Psychological Thriller 'Broken Star'

    Broken Star

“I’m nothing without the attention…” Gravitas has debuted an official trailer for an indie film titled Broken Star, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Dave Schwep. The psychological thriller stars Analeigh Tipton as a young, ambitious actress who will stop at nothing to become famous, however things don’t go as planned. Abandoned by her friends and family and with her career in jeopardy, starlet Markey Marlowe is sequestered in a duplex with a reclusive landlord who just may be more dangerous than she is. The full cast includes Tyler Labine, Lauren Bowles, Monique Coleman, Natasha Loring, Alex Lombard, and Josh Davis. This looks like an intense thriller about an obsessive starlet and crazy landlord in Los Angeles, but it doesn’t seem there’s much more than that going on here. Might be worth a watch – take a look below. ›››

Fiery First Trailer for 'How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World'

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

“We are no longer safe here. We all have to disappear…” Universal has launched the first trailer for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, the latest sequel in the animated series from DreamWorks Animation. The story continues where it left off after the second movie, following Hiccup as the village chief and Toothless as the dragon as leader of his own kind. As both ascend, the darkest threat they’ve yet faced—as well as the appearance of a female Night Fury—will test the bonds of their relationship like never before. The film’s voice cast features Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Cate Blanchett, Kit Harington, Craig Ferguson, and F. Murray Abraham. This is described as the “culmination” of the HTTYD series, and it looks like an epic grand finale. There’s some jaw-dropping footage here and it looks delightful, I’m 100% in. ›››

  • First Trailer for Steven Knight's 'Serenity' with Matthew McConaughey

First Trailer for Steven Knight's 'Serenity' with Matthew McConaughey

    Serenity Trailer

“This is about temptation. There’s right and wrong.” Aviron Pictures has released the official trailer for a film titled Serenity, not to be confused with the sci-fi feature of the same name based on the “Firefly” TV series. This Serenity is the latest movie from British screenwriter/director Steven Knight (Redemption, Locke) and it’s about a mysterious fishing boat captain, played by Matthew McConaughey. It’s described as a “daringly original, sexy, stylized thriller.” The mysterious past of this fishing boat skipper living in the Caribbean comes back to haunt him, ensnaring his life in a new reality that may not be what it all seems. The full cast of Serenity includes Anne Hathaway, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong, Diane Lane, Kenneth Fok, Robert Hobbs, and Rafael Sayegh. This looks very surreal and dream-like, with some odd bloody moments hidden within. I’m very curious, though not sure what to make of it yet. ›››

  • Claire Foy as Lisbeth in First Trailer for 'The Girl in the Spider's Web'

Claire Foy as Lisbeth in First Trailer for 'The Girl in the Spider's Web'

The Girl in the Spider's Web Trailer

“Are you not Lisbeth Salander – the righter of wrongs?” Sony has debuted the first official trailer for the latest film in David Fincher’s English-language version of The Girl in the Dragon Tattoo series, continuing with the sequel The Girl in the Spider’s Web. However, they went back to the drawing board and re-cast Lisbeth Salander and found a new director, Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Alvarez (of the Evil Dead remake), to steer this ship. The Girl in the Spider’s Web stars Claire Foy as the new Lisbeth, hacker extraordinaire, and Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason as her cohort Mikael Blomkvist. The film’s full cast includes Sylvia Hoeks, Lakeith Stanfield, Stephen Merchant, Vicky Krieps, Cameron Britton, and Claes Bang from The Square. This doesn’t look so bad, which is a relief. Even though Fincher has stepped away and it doesn’t have the same feel, it still looks very cool. The brutal opening scene will definitely get your attention. ›››

  • Review: Ari Aster's Horror Film 'Hereditary' is Unsettling & Inescapable

Review: Ari Aster's Horror Film 'Hereditary' is Unsettling & Inescapable

    Hereditary Review

One in five Americans experiences some form of mental illness, with one in 25 suffering severe illness, such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, or dissociative identity disorder (DID). For years, the horror genre has exploited these psychiatric disorders for shock value, perpetuating myths and stereotypes along the way. Movies like Psycho, Halloween, and Silence of the Lambs use mental illness as the motivation for the antagonist’s violent behavior. More recently, films like The Taking of Deborah Logan and The Visit have used neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s as a conduit for evil deeds. With Hereditary, A24’s new horror film, writer/director Ari Aster explores the darkest depths of mental illness and familial tragedy to create a profoundly disquieting moviegoing experience that stays with you long after the closing credits. ›››

  • New US Trailer for Action-Packed Oz Alien Invasion Film 'Occupation'

New US Trailer for Action-Packed Oz Alien Invasion Film 'Occupation'

    Occupation Trailer

“We fight, or we die.” Saban Films has released a brand new official US trailer for the Australian sci-fi alien invasion thriller titled Occupation, from writer/director Luke Sparke. We posted the international trailer for this a few weeks ago and this looks even worse. The film is about a small group of town residents who have to band together after a devastating ground invasion from alien invaders. As they struggle to survive, they realize they must stay one step ahead of their attackers, and work together for a chance to strike back. The big Aussie cast includes Temuera Morrison, Stephany Jacobsen, Dan Ewing, Rhiannon Fish, Zachary Garred, Izzy Stevens, Charles Terrier, Charles Mesure, Felix Williamson, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Bruce Spence. This seems like another awful Red Dawn remake of sorts, and this trailer doesn’t even show the aliens like the other trailer. Probably because they know they look bad? Watch below. ›››

  • First Trailer for 'The Old Man and The Gun' Starring Robert Redford

First Trailer for 'The Old Man and The Gun' Starring Robert Redford

The Old Man and The Gun

“Look at that – is he smiling?” Fox Searchlight has debuted the first official trailer for The Old Man and The Gun, the latest feature film written & directed by David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story). The film is based on and tells the true story of Forrest Tucker, from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Robert Redford stars as Forrest, and the cast includes Casey Affleck, Sissy Spacek, Danny Glover, Tom Waits, and Tika Sumpter. As expected, this looks wonderful – Lowery has been on a roll and only seems to be getting even better with every new film he makes. I love the vintage, film grain look to this – makes it feel like a heist film from a whole other time. It’s going to be good. Watch below. ›››

Impressive Full Trailer for 'Mortal Engines' Produced by Peter Jackson

    Mortal Engines Trailer

“I’ve been looking for you for a long time.” Universal has debuted the full-length official trailer for the sci-fi adaptation Mortal Engines, based on a popular book series. This adaptation has been in the works for years, in development by Peter Jackson and the LOTR/Hobbit team. Jackson is not directing, instead he’s letting a VFX supervisor from Weta make his directorial debut. The fantastically eccentric ensemble cast includes Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide, and Stephen Lang. While they’re still not done yet, this does have some amazing VFX from Weta. The plot in this, which reminds me a bit of Dune at first glance, is about huge cities that move around and battle against each other. I have to say – I’m very impressed, this looks awesome, with a huge scope and scale that seems like it might be exciting to get into this world. You might want to check this out. ›››

Oscar Isaac as a Mossad Agent in First Full Trailer for 'Operation Finale'

    Operation Finale

“If it is him, we need an elite crew.” MGM Studios has released the first trailer for Chris Weitz’s next new film, titled Operation Finale, a film about Mossad agents in Argentina tracking down Adolf Eichmann, the infamous Nazi architect of the Holocaust. Based on a true story, Oscar Isaac stars as Peter Malkin who heads down to Argentina with a team of secret agents in hopes of finding and capturing Eichmann. The huge ensemble cast for this thriller includes Ben Kingsley, Lior Raz, Melanie Laurent, Nick Kroll, Joe Alwyn, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Aronov, Ohad Knoller, Greg Hill, Torben Liebrecht, Mike Hernandez, Greta Scacchi, and Pêpê Rapazote. This looks damn good, the voiceover and the way the score builds is terrific. And it also looks good because Oscar Isaac is always awesome in anything. ›››

First Trailer for Animated Sequel 'The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part'

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Trailer

“Oh no… Something new. What is it up to?” Warner Bros has debuted the first teaser trailer for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, the sequel to the wildly successful and highly acclaimed original The Lego Movie released in 2014. This one isn’t directed by Phil Lord & Chris Miller, but they did write the screenplay and they did produce it, so they’re definitely still involved. This time around, the citizens of Bricksburg must fight off Duplo invaders from outer space. The voice cast includes Chris Pratt, Alison Brie, Stephanie Beatriz, Elizabeth Banks, Channing Tatum, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Jonah Hill, and Tiffany Haddish. WB already made two other Lego “spin-off” movies about Batman and Ninjago in the meantime, but they’re bringing it back to the original story about Emmet Brickowski and Wyldstyle. This may only be a teaser, but it looks great already. The amusing Mad Max-esque opening is funny, I dig it. Check it out below. ›››
