  • Listing For Dead Cells For Android Pops Up On Google Play Store, Gets Taken Down

Listing For Dead Cells For Android Pops Up On Google Play Store, Gets Taken Down

Dead Cells, one of the most critically beloved roguelikes of the year, is the kind of quick-hit title that’s perfect on the go, which currently means playing it on Switch. But, if a recent store listing is any indication, it could soon mean playing it on your phone.

Yesterday Android Police found a listing for the game on the Google Play store, indicating the game may be heading to Android. Although the link to the listing is now dead when using a browser, it used to take you to the store listing and letting “pre-register” to receive an alert when the game becomes available to play. The listing is likely a mistake that wasn’t meant to be live for a while longer, which likely explains why it’s been taking down.

However, knockoffs and such are a dime-a-dozen on mobile phones, which means this could have be a fake listing. The publisher/developer is listed as Playdigious instead of a Motion Twin, the original developer of the game. This could mean the listing illegitimate, but that seems unlikely, since the publisher has released several legitimate titles in the past on the platform, including White Night and the mobile version of Evoland II. More likely, Playdigious is handling either the publisher or the entire process of porting the game to mobile.

We’ve reached out to Playdigoius and Motion Twin about this story and will update it should they reply.

I’m not sure Dead Cells would make for the best game to play on mobile, but it’d definitely be interesting to see someone try. That said, it’d be curious if Motion Twin was offloading the mobile port to another developer, considering the company itself used to be a mobile developer.

  • Netflix Cancels Luke Cage Series After Two Seasons

Netflix Cancels Luke Cage Series After Two Seasons

Although it still plans to produce shows based on the Marvel universe, the continuation of its current Luke Cage series isn’t part of that plan.

Deadline reports Marvel and Netflix jointly announced their decisions to end the series prematurely. The third season was already in production at the time of the cancellation, with showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker and a team of writers having already spent six months producing scripts for the series. Although the scripts incorporated suggestions from both Marvel and Netflix, the two parties reportedly weren’t fans of where the current scripts were headed.

The cancellation comes in the wake of the recent ending of the Iron Fist Netflix series, though Jessica Jones and Daredevil are still slated to continue. This, along with the recent ending of Marvel’s movie deal with the streaming company, may suggest things are afoot in terms of licence disagreements or shifting.

  • Developer Splash Damage Ends Development On Dirty Bomb

Developer Splash Damage Ends Development On Dirty Bomb

The multiplayer PC shooter Dirty Bomb has enjoyed ups and downs. As one of the early success stories of Early Access, Dirty Bomb enjoyed a big enough player base to push it through beta into full release in August 2017. Unfortunately, the player base didn’t stick around from the game’s height and long-term support has become unfeasible.

The game was intended to act as a Games as a Service title with continued development and support. In a post on their website, developer Splash Damage explained why they can’t continue working on the game.

“After regaining publishing rights for DB nearly two years ago, we staffed up a load of developers and tried our best to deliver a Dirty Bomb experience that would be feature-rich with tons of new content, while maintaining its great gameplay feel & balance,” the post reads. “Unfortunately, despite all the added time and resources, there were some challenges we couldn’t overcome, and we were not able to make DB the success that we hoped it could be. The bottom line is that we can’t financially justify continuing to work on the game we love.”

The servers for the game are going to remain up as long as it has a meaningful player numbers still. Those who purchased the game’s All Merc DLC before January 2019 will get a refund while still retaining access to the mercenaries it comes with.
