Here are our picks, but what are yours?

Yet another week has flown by, leaving us with a couple of days to sit back, relax, and enjoy some great gaming sessions. We have a variety of spooky Halloween scares, super space-exploration shenanigans, and succulent squid-shooter successes to attend to this weekend, so have a read of our thoughts, and tell us about your plans via the poll and comments below. Enjoy!

    Ryan Craddock, staff writer

Whenever this time of year comes around, I always find myself wanting to bask in the spooky glow of Halloween, with multiple creepy (but not too creepy) games instantly springing to mind. I realise I’m in danger of losing all credibility as a Nintendo-based writer here, but I’ve still never found the time to play The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D (as I didn’t own the original), despite the game being in my possession for years now.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheat Codes: Here's How To Use Them

Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheat Codes: Here's How To Use Them

Rockstar Game’s newest release, Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 and Xbox One, is a game where you’ll want to spend a great deal of time uncovering all of its secrets and details. You can spend 50-plus hours just completing the main story, slowing accumulating wealth and honor. But if you’re someone looking for a shortcut–who wants to find a quick path to success while living the life of an outlaw in the last days of the wild west–we’ve got you covered. Much like the original game and GTA V, Red Dead 2 features an assortment of cheat codes that unlock additional resources, with some injecting odd gimmicks and quirks into your game.

To find the Cheats menu, press the pause button and select the Settings option. In this menu, press Triangle or Y (on PS4 and Xbox One, respectively) to pull up the Cheats menu. From here, you’ll find a long list of locked cheats. Initially, you won’t know what any of these do or how to unlock them. Many of these codes can be activated by putting in the correct phrase, but others will require some extra time and effort.

In addition to finding passwords while exploring the world, some of which are written into the ground, throughout the game you’ll find newspapers for sale in towns, and some of these offer clues as to how to unlock these extra fun options. More newspapers will become available after completing main missions, which you’ll see detailed in news articles. While many of these cheats introduce some mostly benign bits of fun–such as keeping your character, Arthur Morgan, perpetually drunk–activating these codes at any time will have some consequences for your save game. Once you activate these codes, all Trophies and Achievements will be deactivated on this particular file. As a result, before trying any of these codes, be sure to make a separate file for your main save.

With over 30 codes to unlock, some of which have some specific requirements, we’ve collected a list of cheats that we’ve uncovered thus far. We also have a separate feature discussing some of the most entertaining and best cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2. Be sure to check back with GameSpot as we update this page with new codes, and how to find them.

  • New Preview Beta Ring 1811 Update – 10/27/18

Starting at 2:00 p.m. PDT today, members of the Xbox One Preview Beta Ring will begin receiving a new 1811 Xbox One system update (181024-0145). Read on for more about the fixes and known issues in the latest 1811 system update.

    New Features:

    Family Settings

    • Children signing up for new accounts will now be asked to add a parent only if required to by local privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR or COPPA). This means that some minors, like teens in the U.S., will no longer have to add a parent and join a Microsoft family during signup. Xbox privacy and online safety defaults will still be applied based on age, and in order to change those, the minor would need to add a parent on Xbox who can then change their settings. Minors not in a family can add a parent anytime in Settings > Account > Family settings > Add a parent. Joining a family would also allow the parent and child to use other family features like content restrictions, screen time, activity reporting, and spending.
    • Children that are subject to local privacy regulations will still be required to add a parent during signup. While this will create a Microsoft family through which the parent can use family features like content restrictions, screen time, activity reporting, and spending, the parent will no longer be required to sign in on Xbox. If a parent wants to change their child’s Xbox privacy and online safety settings, the parent can sign in separately on Xbox and manage their family in Settings > Account > Family settings.
    • Existing child accounts are not affected by this change and will remain with their parents in their current Microsoft family.

     Mouse & Keyboard Support

    • We have enabled mouse support in the build.  Please check out the Quest in the Xbox Insider Hub to experience mouse and keyboard support in Warframe.

     Search Enhancements

    • The search function has been enhanced across the console and will now return responses from the Xbox Assist application for example to help with help, support and troubleshooting.  Please check out the Quest in the Xbox Insider Hub to help us gather feedback.

    Fixes:

    Clubs:

    • Users are notified of changes to clubs groups via Real Time Activity.
    • The Activity Feed will have text that reads Default when the user has created new channels within their clubs

    Notifications:

    • Added a new notification count for invitations in Guide based on your inbox.
    • Added Party/Game/Club Invites support in the notification inbox

    System

    • Fixes to the Game Pass twist as secondary items sometimes don’t load.
    • Accessibility fixes to the Welcome experience of Game Pass.
    • Localization fixes.
    • Added a home Xbox “Learn more” button, and dialog “Help” button

    Known Issues:

    Achievement Toasts:

    • Recent achievement notifications not clearing.

     Profile Color

    • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

  • Next Destiny 2 Update Lowers Exotic Duplicate Drops, Adds Refer-A-Friend Quest

The next big Destiny 2: Forsaken update, 2.0.5, arrives next Tuesday, bringing with it some big quality-of-life improvements and a new questline for getting your friends to play the game.

The most important change the update makes is to how exotic weapons and armor will drop. Exotics are currently hyper-rare in Forsaken (far moreso than they were in vanilla Destiny 2), and players would often get the same exotics, often from year one, multiple times. This won’t be the case come October 30, when the update hits.

While Bungie had previously announced this change, it detailed how the change would work this week. “When you’re receiving an exotic, we will take into account all exotics you’ve found, and weight them against Exotics you have yet to acquire; this lowers the chances of receiving Exotics you already own,” Bungie says on its official blog. Armor pieces will be more much more common, too, since they have random rolls (making duplicates useful), and exotics received from quests are no longer in the pool of loot you can get from an exotic engram.

Additionally, Masterwork cores will be retitled Enhancement cores. These new cores, which are still used for infusing weaker items with stronger ones, will be easier to get; they’ll drop from the Spider’s weekly bounties, as well as Scrapper bounties that come from dismantling gear.

Finally, along with some buffs to Trace Rifles and quest exotics Wish-Ender and Malfeasance, The October 30 update will add a new refer-a-friend questline, which will offer bonuses to the both the veteran player who recruits a new player and the newbie. This includes a new shader for ships, sparrows, and an ornament for the exotic sniper rifle Borealis, as well as a new emblem, all of which have scaly glow that changes color over time.

Any player who currently owns Destiny 2 qualifies as a veteran, while only those who’ve owned Destiny 2: Forsaken for fewer than seven days qualify as a new player.

For the full breakdown of weapon changes and quality-of-life changes, check out the full blog post.

The refer-a-friend quest comes a bit too late for me, unfortunately – I recently had someone make the switch from PC to PS4, which would have been the perfect time for them to be a “new player” for the refer-a-friend program. Oh well. The masterwork and exotic changes are a delight to see, as I’ve yet to get the 10 new exotics necessary to complete a trophy requirement.

What To Watch This Weekend: Black Ops 4, StarCraft II, And Games Done Quick Express

Everyone in the general gaming world may be playing/talking about Red Dead in some way or another, but esports chugs along unabated. Check out some major events for mainstays and newcomers alike this weekend.

As part of this year’s Twitchcon, Games Done Quick is hosting a shorter speedrunning marathon called GDQ Express, featuring two more days of fun speedrunning action. Check out runs for Titanfall 2The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and more. (Stream / Schedule)

The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Epicenter major concludes this weekend, with the group stage over and only a handful of teams left in the playoffs. (Stream / Schedule)

The League of Legends Worlds tournament is down the four teams, and it’ll soon be three; G2 and iG face off today, while Fnatic face Cloud9 to determine who will make it into the grand finals of the tournament. (Stream / Schedule)

With no sign of patch 7.20 in sight, competitive teams are going to have keep toughing 7.19d of Dota 2 for a little while longer. But that only makes the meta more stable, right? In the lead-up to the Kuala Lumpur major next month, ESL One Hamburg is the best chance to see major teams duke it out. (Stream / Schedule)

Canada Cup brings the many disparate FGCs together for one weekend in the North, which means the event has the likes of Street Fighter V, Soulcalibur VIDragon Ball FighterZ, and Super Smash Bros., and more under one roof. (Streams and Schedule)

Blizzard’s about to have a real storm of tournaments, but it’s spreading them a little bit. This weekend, it’s having the finals for its StarCraft II WCS in the lead-up to Blizzcon, during which it’ll have tournaments for a bunch of its other games. (Stream / Schedule)

If you’re enjoying Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, you might want to check out a small tournament using its battle royale mode, Blackout. The Doritos (yeah, the chip) Bowl pits four major CoD teams against each other in the mode, so if you want to see what non-sick, high-level gameplay looks like, come on through. (Stream)

As part of PAX Australia, the Rainbow Six Siege Masters tournament promises to have some of the best Siege competition of the year, so get ready to screw up your sleep schedule to watch times in the appropriate timezone (or just watch the archives). (Stream / Schedule)

That’s it for this weekend! Let us know if we missed an event, or if there’s a scene you’d like us to cover, in the comments.
