  • Two Free Final Fantasy VII Remake PS4 Dynamic Themes Available to Download Now

    Both are amazing.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is out now on PlayStation 4, and as promised, Square Enix has released not one, but two dynamic themes on the PlayStation Store. One is completely free as long as you play the demo before the 11th May, while the other is free for PlayStation Plus members. The former is simply titled ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake Theme’, while the latter is called ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake Cloud Theme’.

And guess what? They both look fantastic. The normal theme features some stunning artwork of the cast looking off into the sunrise, while the Cloud theme has, er, Cloud looking up at the Shinra building. Both themes have slight animation, their own icons, and their own music tracks. Neat.

  • PS5’s DualSense Controller Explodes on Social Media, But Can’t Break Insta Record

Sitting at 4.3 million likes so far.

Update: So, 24 hours after Sony’s surprise DualSense reveal, the statistics are in: 4.3 million likes on Instagram. That’s less than the 5 million likes the PS5’s logo attracted, although it did set a new record on Twitter with over 300k likes.

Original Story: You can’t really argue with Sony’s PlayStation 5 marketing strategy when you see results like this. The Japanese giant shocked us all by revealing the DualSense controller on the PlayStation Blog today, and an hour since the first images were released it’s already attracted over 1.5 million likes on Instagram. That number, in case you had any doubt, is only going to keep rising.

  • Bethesda’s Pete Hines ‘Very Impressed’ After DualSense Hands On

“Games are going to do really cool things”.

Sony’s shipping the final version of the DualSense controller to PlayStation 5 developers, and now it’s been announced some hands-on impressions are beginning to emerge online. Bethesda’s Pete Hines is one such person to go on record, stating that he’s been “very impressed” with the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

He continued: “I think games are going to do some really cool things with them.” Imagine lockpicking in a PS5 version of Fallout, where the triggers tighten and the controller pulsates as you find the sweet spot. Or how about drawing an arrow in The Elder Scrolls VI, where the R2 button fights back as the string gets taut. Immersive stuff!

  • PS5 Controller Revealed, Named DualSense with Create Button and Built-in Microphone

    Share button replaced.

On a random Tuesday evening, Sony has officially revealed the PlayStation 5 controller. It’s named the DualSense, features a Create button instead of the PlayStation 4’s share functionality, and has a built-in microphone which negates the need for a headset.

Sony confirms that the DualSense will support adaptive triggers while “the sense of touch” appears to play a key part in its design. Blending the colours of black and white together, the PS5 controller will sport a strong, rechargeable battery life while the L2 and R2 triggers have been slightly smoothed. It is also said to be fairly light despite the addition of new features. The light bar actually does make its return, this time positioned on the sides of the touch pad instead of the top. Interestingly, the four face buttons no longer have colours associated with them.

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Tech Analysis Highlights Poor Texture Problems

    Digital Foundry weighs in.

Those lovable geeks over at Digital Foundry have uploaded a technical analysis of Final Fantasy VII Remake, and it’s well worth a watch. The team’s blown away by much of the game, praising its rock solid performance, art direction, detail, and stunning story cutscenes. But, much like we pointed out in our 8/10 review of the release, Remake does suffer from very strange environmental texture issues in certain areas. They’re often so bad that we even went as far as to write a separate report on them, complete with screenshots.

Much like us, Digital Foundry wonders whether it’s some kind of graphical bug. If it is, here’s hoping that it gets fixed, because while we all know visuals aren’t everything in a game, these textures definitely distract from an otherwise gorgeous PlayStation 4 title.
