Watch: Spike Jonze’s Cannabis History Short Film ‘The New Normal’

    The New Normal Short Film

“Madness? How about wellness.” It’s time for the new Spike Jonze joint! Though it isn’t a new feature film. The New Normal is a two-minute short film directed by Spike Jonze (director of Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Where the Wild Things Are, and Her), starring Jesse Williams, made entirely to promote the legalization of marijuana in the United States. The short was produced as a marketing video for MedMen, a cannabis company with dispensaries all around America selling their “premium” products. Nonetheless, it presents a compelling case for legalization by pointing out how it was normal to grow hemp (aka cannabis) in the days of George Washington, plus how propaganda and the “war on drugs” has not helped solve any problems, just make them worse. But most of all, it is stil a new Spike Jonze film we can all enjoy right now. ›››

Rumer Willis & Emma Dumont in Trailer for Thriller ‘What Lies Ahead’

    What Lies Ahead Trailer

“We’re going to play by my rules, okay? See if you are worthy of my brother.” Vision Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie thriller titled What Lies Ahead, from director Rob Gardner. When two young women are thrown together on an unexpected road trip, a surprising and aggressive peril emerges between them that grows stronger with each passing mile. Emma Dumont (from Inherent Vice, “Aquarius”, “The Gifted”) plays Jessica, a woman who flies to Georgia to accompany hey boyfriend’s sister, Raven, played by Rumer Willis (from The House Bunny, Sorority Row), as she drives north to move closer to him following a death. The small cast includes Kelly Blatz, Katie Keene, and Brandon Jones. This is one of those bad trailers that shows the entire film, but they’re desperate for any attention since it’s a throwaway indie flick. ›››

Extended Official Trailer for ‘Pennywise: The Story of IT’ Documentary

Pennywise: The Story of IT Trailer

“A lot of people told me that it poisoned their childhood.” An extended official trailer has debuted for the doc Pennywise: The Story of IT, another in the series of cinema history docs made by Chris Griffiths (including his RoboCop doc and Fright Night docs previously). The original IT “movie” was actually a mini-series (a “a two-part, three-hour TV movie”) produced for ABC that aired on TV back in late 1990, receiving around 30 million views in its initial debut. The horror “film” has gone on to become a cult classic, thanks to Tim Curry’s incredible freaky performance as the creepy clown known as Pennywise, and this documentary looks at its legacy. It also delves into the production, featuring tons of never-before-seen photos & behind-the-scenes footage, plus interviews with the entire cast and crew and much more. They’re likely timing this to arrive right around the same time as It: Chapter Two hits theaters, but until then, get a first look below. ›››

  • Emile Hirsch & John Cusack in Trailer for Western ‘Never Grow Old’

Emile Hirsch & John Cusack in Trailer for Western ‘Never Grow Old’

    Never Grow Old Trailer

“Do you feel proud of yourself?!” Saban Films has unveiled the first official trailer for an indie western titled Never Grow Old, which is a shortened version of the original working title Where We’ll Never Grow Old. This gritty western takes place at an American frontier town. The plot is about an Irish undertaker who profits when outlaws take over a peaceful town, but his family comes under threat as the death toll rises. Emile Hirsch plays the undertaker, and the cast includes John Cusack, Déborah François, Antonia Campbell-Hughes, Danny Webb, Anne Coesens, Blake Berris, Paul Reid, as well as Léa Seydoux. Another western about a bunch of outlaws roughing up a town? How original. The cinematography in this looks so bad, so poorly lit in every scene. Don’t think this dastardly new western is going to impress anyone. ›››

Mia and the White Lion Trailer

“I’m going to get you to somewhere safe… and then you’ll be free.” A new official US trailer has debuted for the charming adventure Mia and the White Lion, which was first released last year in France under the title Mia et le lion blanc – since it’s made by a French filmmaker, though the dialogue is mostly in English. The story is about a young girl from London who moves to Africa with her parents where she befriends a white lion cub. After the lion grows up, she decides to set out on a journey across the South African savanna in search of another land where Charlie can live out his life in freedom. Daniah De Villiers stars as Mia, with a full cast including Mélanie Laurent, Langley Kirkwood, Ryan Mac Lennan, Lionel Newton, Lillian Dube, and Brandon Auret. This was shot at the Welgedacht Reserve in South Africa, and filming took place over three years to make the story feel even more authentic. Who doesn’t love a big, cuddly cat? ›››
