    17 bosses to kill.

If you’ve just wrapped up a playthrough of Blasphemous and are looking for your next Souls-like hit then boy oh boy do we have the game for you. Dark Devotion, from developer Hibernian Workshop, looks to be a pixelated 2D take on Dark Souls, and the best thing is that it arrives on PlayStation 4 tomorrow.

  • WWE 2K20 Fans Put Together Hashtag to Prove Just How Utterly Broken the Game Is

    #FixWWE2K20.

It’s been a while since a game so completely broken as WWE 2K20 has come along. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is the last one we remember, but this latest wrestling effort must surely take first place. So much so that the game’s community has put together a Twitter hashtag where people can put all their favourite glitches and bugs for the world to see. It makes for pretty hilarious viewing, too.

Seriously, what on earth happened here!? We know that former developer Yukes was dropped for this year’s iteration, but how WWE 2K20 managed to make it out the door in this state is completely beyond our comprehension. If you’d like to sample even more of its ridiculous problems and funny glitches, head through this link here.

  • Hands On: Iron Man VR Is the Next Big Thing for PSVR

    Stark would be proud.

It feels like major PlayStation VR releases have dried up as of late. Sure, the likes of Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot and Vacation Simulator were fun enough, but it doesn’t seem like virtual reality has really made any waves since Blood & Truth nearly six months ago. It’s a quiet period indeed, but there is one PSVR title we’re eagerly anticipating. Marvel’s Iron Man VR could be the next big step for Sony’s headset, and it took just 15 minutes of hands on time to prove it.

Just slipping the PlayStation VR headset on for the first time once the game has booted up feels different. As the usual business and engine logos pass you by, Iron Man’s visor begins to take shape as blasters power up, thrusters come online, and the world around you comes into view. What follows is essentially a tutorial area that’s full of flying, shooting, and punching – but it’s more than enough to get DC fanboys fearing of a Marvel takeover all over again.

  • Doctor Who: The Edge of Time Brings a Dalek Invasion to PSVR This November

    Exterminate!

PlayStation VR’s release schedule seems to have somewhat dried up as of late, but maybe that’s because every other developer is getting out of the way of a forthcoming invasion courtesy of the Cybermen and the Daleks. Doctor Who: The Edge of Time has confirmed that the TARDIS will come to PSVR’s rescue next month on 12th November.

Gameplay has been a bit scarce for this one, with one slice of action from a few months back failing to impress us in the slightest. Things have improved since then, but we’re yet to be convinced that this will be a quality virtual reality experience. We’re interested at the very least, however.

  • Borderlands 3’s Bloody Harvest Event Tricks and Treats its Way Onto PS4 Later This Week

    New skins, weapon, and boss.

Numerous Games as a Service will be making the case for you to check out their Halloween events over the next couple of weeks, one of which is Borderlands 3. Already announced a handful of weeks back, the free Bloody Harvest event will bring terror to PlayStation 4 players in just a few days from Thursday 24th October.

Lasting right up until the beginning of December, vault hunters will be able to get their hands on a new legendary weapon, new character skins, weapon trinkets, and a new Echo Device skin. Taking down an all-new boss is what you’ll need to do in order to acquire them, but the standard enemies you’ll find across each and every one of Borderlands 3’s planets haven’t been left out in the cold. They too have received a spooky makeover.

  • Gears 6 Could Get Inspiration From an Unlikely Source

Considering the critical success of Gears 5, it’s not too difficult to imagine Gears 6 is already in the works. But according to The Coalition’s art director, a potential Gears 6 may get visual inspiration from an interesting source.

Iran-based video game composer Hamidreza Nikoofar has a podcast series called Wassup Conversations where Nikoofar speaks with various developers. A recent episode featured a conversation with Gears 5 art director Aryan Hanbeck, who revealed a surprising inspiration for a possible Gears 6.

“One thing – the guys here will probably laugh if they see this – but I’ve been telling all the artists nonstop to go watch Handmaid’s Tale… The composition, the color, and just the cinematography and symbolism is just off the charts,” Hanbeck says. “So, I watched that and I’m like, ‘Wow we gotta find a way to get more of this stuff in Gears 6.’”

  • Opinion: Video Games Have (Happily) Outgrown Their Genre Labels

Video games conjure entire worlds from polygons and code that we spend days exploring, so it’s no surprise we talk about them constantly – like sailors peeling off our stiff, salty clothes to tell tales of adventure around a table. Our stories usually begin in a similar way. Your friend might ask, “have you heard of

? It’s a 2D puzzle platformer.” Or think of the podcast host who describes a game they played recently as “a team-based multiplayer first-person-shooter.”

But what do they actually mean? The podcast host was describing Counter-Strike, but “team-based multiplayer first-person-shooter” could equally apply to Apex Legends or Team Fortress 2. The “2D puzzle platformer” label outlined Little Nightmares (a game about guiding a tiny, yellow-coated child to escape a hide-and-seek horror gauntlet) but could just as easily have described Celeste (a meditative platformer about a woman climbing a mountain that’s a metaphor for her anxiety).

  • Fighting Games Need to Be Built from the Ground Up for Streaming, Says Street Fighter Producer

    Stream fighter.

Most video game genres can translate well to a streaming service if you’ve got a good enough connection, but there’s one type of experience that is always going to suffer no matter what. Fighting games, especially when played competitively, rely on frame-perfect combo moves and intricate playstyles the further up you go, and any amount of lag is going to be a detriment to that. It’s unplayable for professional players, and it looks like Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono agrees.

During a panel at EGX 2019, the Capcom figurehead said that if a fighting game were to take advantage of streaming services, it would need to be built from the ground up for it. “The thing is that the current games are only transmitting the actual inputs and commands across the network and all the graphics and so forth are handled locally, even then we have difficulty getting it working right.” Ono then goes on to state that doing Street Fighter V on the likes of Google Stadia would be too difficult at the current level.
