  • Days Gone Gets New Game Plus Today

Days Gone Gets New Game Plus Today

Remember Days Gone? Sony Bend’s open-world zombie game released this April, and is pretty darn good, but hasn’t been talked about much in the months that followed, especially for a Sony exclusive. From the lack of chatter, I’m guessing most of you haven’t finished it yet, but if you have, and you enjoyed it, Sony Bend today added New Game Plus, giving you good reason to jump back in.

Days Gone’s version of New Game Plus allows the player to begin the adventure again with almost everything they unlocked in the first playthrough, including bike upgrades, collectibles, encampment trust, and more. This update also brings two new difficulty modes: Hard II and Survival II. Even if you haven’t finished the game yet, you can select these difficulties from the outset of play.

Sony Bend rounded out this update with new trophies, one of which pertains to a new weapon from a character that mostly resides in shadows. If you’ve played Days Gone, we’d love to hear what you thought of it. And if you haven’t played it, what turned you away?

We’re in Japan for the annual Tokyo Game Show, in case you couldn’t tell by our stories, pictures, and videos focused on Japanese games. And while those titles are definitely the stars of the show, another joy of attending TGS is seeing what heights the spectacle can reach.

During our time between appointments, we snapped some pictures so you can feel like you’re right here on the show floor with us. Some of the highlights include a giant Rabite, merchandise for sale at the Kojima Productions shop, and some impressive statues at the Atlus/Sega booth. So flip through the galleries below and please do not mock our photography skills.

  • Hand Cramps Won’t Be A Problem With This New Switch Lite Grip Case

    Grip this.

As brilliant as the Switch Joy-Con is, it’s flat on both sides, overly small when paired up with certain hands and can result in some serious cramps after prolonged sessions on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (trust us, we know). Much more comfortable options include the Pro Controller and even the GameCube pad.

Although we discovered Nintendo might be working on a more ergonomic Joy-Con design, if a recent patent filing is anything to go by, it appears to be restricted to the original Switch model. So what will Switch Lite owners do when their hands start to physically hurt after hours of gaming on the go?

  • Random: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is About Video Games, So Don’t Expect Goku Or Iron Man

    Masahiro Sakurai reiterates the guidelines.

The latest Super Smash Bros. game for the Switch is the ultimate entry in the series. It brings together a roster of fighters that most fans have dreamed of for many years now. Sonic against Mario – sure! Rare’s Banjo-Kazooie up against Ryu from Street Fighter – no problem! Despite a seemingly unlimited amount of match-ups, there are a few characters that you’ll likely never see make an appearance in this all-star brawler.

At the Japanese Awards ceremony recently, where Super Smash Bros. Ultimate won multiple awards, the game director Masahiro Sakurai reiterated some comments he’s previously made regarding certain fighter requests (thanks, Dot Esports).

  • “No Additional Downloads Required” For Physical Version Of Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection

    Thanks, Capcom.

Like many other Switch releases, one question that’s frequently been asked since Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection was announced for Nintendo’s hybrid system was if the retail release would include all of the content on the game card.

The good news is everything will be included on the one game cartridge. That’s all six of the following classics: Mega Man Zero, Mega Man Zero 2, Mega Man Zero 3, Mega Man Zero 4, Mega Man ZX and Mega Man ZX Advent. Here’s Capcom’s official confirmation via Twitter, stating how “no additional downloads” will be required.

  • Hands On: How Does Borderlands 3 Run on PS4 Pro?

    Performance vs Resolution.

If you came across a review of Borderlands 3 prior to launch, it was most certainly done on the PC. The console version of the game has been shrouded in secrecy as developer Gearbox Software focuses on showing off the experience in the best light possible. Now that release day is here, however, we’ve got our hands on the PlayStation 4 version of 2019’s biggest looter shooter. So, the question is, how does it perform on the supercharged PS4 Pro?

Borderlands 3 on PS4 Pro gives you the option of prioritising either the game’s framerate via the performance option or its visuals with a focus on resolution. No matter which one you select, you’re in for a good time, but after a couple hours of play, we think there’s a very clear winner. If you’re looking for the best Borderlands 3 experience possible, you’ll want to select the performance option.

  • August 2019 NPD: Game Sales Sink to 20 Year Low as Control Misses Out

    Madden still on top.

Game sales sank to a 20-year low in August 2019 in the United States, with overall consumer spend falling 18 per cent year-over-year. All sectors registered declines, with Nintendo Switch once again dominating the hardware charts. The performance was so poor across the board last month that it’s actually dragged down the entire year, which has now fallen six per cent when compared to 2018.

Madden NFL 20 was the best-selling game of the month, but it was legacy titles Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V which filled the remaining slots in the top three. Marvel’s Spider-Man continued to keep swinging in 11th position, while Man of Medan just managed to make the best-sellers list in 19th place. There was no room for Remedy’s Control, which will surely disappoint publisher 505 Games, despite it launching right at the very tail of the month.

  • Some exclusive Apple Arcade games can actually be played on consoles

When Apple got to the stage at WWDC 2019 and then its September iPhone 11 product event to show off Apple Arcade, one of the main draws to the subscription gaming platform was that the games would be exclusive to it. However, it turns out that’s not actually true.

One of the main games shown off was Sayonara: Wild Hearts, but as detailed in the description on its launch trailer, the game is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch as well as Apple Arcade.

Sayonara: Wild Hearts will release on all three platforms simultaneously (on the same day Apple Arcade launches), so not only is it not an exclusive, it’s not even a timed exclusive. You’ll be able to play it day one on a variety of platforms.

On Apple’s press release announcing Apple Arcade’s launch date, it makes mention of the ‘over 100 new, exclusive games’, so the initial pitch to customers clearly suggests you wouldn’t be able to play games on other platforms, which is clearly not the case.

What Apple could have meant is that Apple Arcade games won’t be available on other mobile platforms, and currently it seems that they won’t be available to play on Android smartphones. But this could have been made a lot clearer, to avoid misleading customers who may have been tempted to purchase an Apple Arcade subscription.

It’s also likely that some of the games are exclusives, and many of the releases haven’t been detailed in enough information for us to know if they’ll be out on other platforms or not.

The exclusivity of all the games on Apple Arcade was a major part of the sales pitch, as exclusivity is an important part of a game platform or service – that’s why Epic Games Store is doing well, yet we’re dubious about Google Stadia since it has too few exclusives announced.

TechRadar has reached out to Apple for comment on this story, and will update with any extra comment when we hear back.

Now that people are starting to notice Apple Arcade’s exclusive games aren’t actually exclusive, it may put people off paying money for the service.
