  • PlayStation Store Suspended Indefinitely in China

    No roadmap for return.

Sony has suspended the PlayStation Store in China, with no guarantee of when it will return. According to the organisation’s official Weibo account, it’s been taken down due to a “security upgrade” – although unsurprisingly, the virtual plaza remains open for business around the rest of the globe.

According to analyst Daniel Ahmad, an “Xbox fanboy claimed on Weibo that they reported to authorities certain back door elements that are easily accessible to switch to overseas services”. The PS Store was subsequently taken offline.

Dwarf Fortress is getting a makeover ahead of its upcoming Steam release, ditching its ASCII style in favor of a tile system. Dwarf Fortress originally released in 2006, and has been updated numerous times since. The two maps below show the most significant change to the game yet, though.

  • After Talking About New IP, Gears Of War Designer Cliff Bleszinski Is Starting A Twitch Channel

Game developer Cliff Bleszinski, who designed and directed the original Gears of War trilogy, is keeping busy in his post-Epic life. His latest project is a little different, however.

Bleszinski said on Twitter that he’s seriously thinking about starting a Twitch channel. He was inspired to start streaming due to the “cabin fever” he’s feeling during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Bleszinski added that he’s starting to feel comfortable again on camera thanks to all the Zoom calls he’s been on lately.

Cabin fever may finally be the straw that broke the camel’s back to cause me to start a Twitch channel. Zoom has made me feel comfortable on camera again after all this time.

    — Cliff Bleszinski (@therealcliffyb) May 11, 2020

Bleszinski launching a Twitch channel of his own comes at an interesting time, given that he just recently announced he has begun work on a new IP involving dogs. An outspoken and opinionated individual known for decades of experience in games and his hot takes on various gaming industry topics, Bleszinski would certainly have a lot to offer viewers on Twitch.

    Lucky Grandma Trailer

“Why do these messy things keep happening?” Good Deed Ent. has debuted the first official trailer for a film called Lucky Grandma, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Sasie Sealy. Watch: Rock n’ Roll Band Trans Survival Story Short Film ‘Jesse Jams’

    Jesse Jams Short Film

“We just make music, and have fun, and laugh all the time.” Rock out with Jesse Jams! A fantastic “rock doc” short film to be inspired by. Jesse is a rock n’ roll survivor. He is an Indigenous trans man who grew up in care and endured years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Why make a film about him and his band? “He has a list of mental health diagnoses as long as your arm, but Jesse has developed his own way to cope with his day-to-day challenges: rock n’ roll. The film follows Jesse for a week of his life, as he makes his way to recording sessions, rehearsals, sound checks, and finally a full set with his band at Edmonton’s summer music festival – Interstellar Rodeo. Jesse’s songs are the way into his story: there’s a whole life behind those lyrics.” Don’t write this one off! It’s an awesome and inspiring story about the power of music. ›››

  • PS5’s Price Could Be Undercut by Xbox Series X, Analysts Suggest

    Sticky situation.

Speaking as part of a live episode of Geoff Keighley’s Bonus Round this week, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter suggested that Microsoft may undercut the price of the PlayStation 5 this holiday. According to the industry analyst, he thinks Sony will charge $500 for its next-gen console, giving its Redmond competitor the opportunity to take a big loss – and charge consumers less for the Xbox Series X.

“Microsoft has a big balance sheet,” he pointed out. “If they want to cut the price by $100 and subsidise the first 10 million, they will. So, I think they’re waiting to have Sony blink first, and then they’ll reveal the price and launch date. It’s going to be Holiday 2020, so very likely in November and very likely $400.”

  • Random: Mark Cerny’s PS5 Tech Talk Has Been Turned Into a Relaxing ASMR Video

    Yes, really.

We all know that PlayStation 5’s lead system architect, Mark Cerny, has the most soothing voice in the games industry. He always speaks in a relaxed tone, as though he’s reading us all a bedtime story. It’s never not a pleasure to listen to the man talk, even when it’s about next-gen mumbo jumbo. Why not take advantage of his smooth vocals and turn him into the ASMR genius he was born to be? One person has had such an idea, and we’ve ended up with the above.

Cerny’s entire, hour-long ‘Road to PS5’ presentation is included here, but with added reverb and ambient music to really help you feel relaxed. ASMR — which stands for autonomous sensory meridian response — is a tingling sensation you feel when you hear certain audio, and it’s a little different for each person. While the popular YouTube trend typically involves binaural sound, you won’t find any of that here. There’s no glass-tapping or crisp-eating going on in this video. It’s more of a meditative, sleepy experience, and in that respect it’s hilariously effective. If you’re having trouble nodding off, plug in Cerny and have him sooth you to sleep with talk of solid state drives and power consumption.

  • Report: Boba Fett Returns In The Mandalorian Season 2

Report: Boba Fett Returns In The Mandalorian Season 2

The Mandalorian, Disney Plus’ critically acclaimed Star Wars space-western series by Jon Favreau, continues to bolster its season 2 cast. In March, it was reported that actress Rosario Dawson would be taking on the role of Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice from Star Wars: The Clone Wars for the second season The Mandalorian. Now The Hollywood Reporter has a scoop that not only is the legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett joining the season 2 stable, but he will be played by Temuera Morrison, the actor who portrayed Jango Fett in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

Many fans theorized that the closing moments of The Mandalorian‘s season 1 episode, “The Gunslinger” hinted at Boba Fett appearing in a future episode, but that cameo or appearance did not occur during the first season. The connection is obvious, as the famed bounty hunter is known for his Mandalorian armor, but by this time in the story, he was presumed dead, swallowed by a sarlacc in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the JediThe Mandalorian takes place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, meaning Boba Fett might be more resilient than we thought.

The first season of The Mandalorian began in November, starring such actors as Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte, Taika Waititi, Gina Carano, and Amy Sedaris. The second season is currently scheduled for release later this year, but it remains to be seen if that will be possible with the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic.
