After coming off the 2015 release schedule, Michael Fassbender’s Assassin’s Creed is once again heading to theaters.
20th Century Fox announced a bunch of release dates Monday night including a new one for Assassin’s Creed. The film will now hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2016. In addition, a sequel to this year’s Fantastic Four has moved up a month to June 2, 2017 and now Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes sequel will hit on July 14, 2017. In addition, Hugh Jackman’s P.T. Barnum movie The Greatest Showman on Earth will be released Christmas Day 2016. This is all on top of the news of the Gambit movie hitting on October 7, 2016. Read more about the Assassin’s Creed movie release date and more below.
The Wrap was one of the first outlets to post the news; the date seems like good news for fans of the popular video game. The Assassin’s Creed film is scheduled to be directed by Justin Kurzel, with the most recent rewrite having been done by Exodus writers Adam Cooper and Bill Collage.
Among the other films given release dates were Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates, a currently uncast comedy which will open July 29, 2016. It’s directed by Jake Szymanski and written by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. Then there’s also The Mountain Between Us, a romance with Charlie Hunnam and Rosamund Pike. That’ll hit on February 10, 2017, right in time for Valentine’s Day.
Back to superheroes for a second though, it’s kind of encouraging that Fantastic Four 2 remains on the schedule. Considering the first one opens in just a few months and we haven’t seen a single image, it suggests they’re happy enough with what they’ve seen that they expect there to be interest in a sequel.
The Apes 3 (for lack of a better title) date is right in between the weeks the first two movies opened, so that makes sense too.
What is your big take away from this news?

Channing Tatum has long been attached to play Gambit in the X-Men universe. We just don’t know when we’ll first see him in the costume. Could it be X-Men Apocalypse in May 2016? Maybe. But the actor took to his social media to reveal that a release date has now been set for a Gambit solo movie. It’ll be out on October 7, 2016. Read more about the Gambit movie release date below.
Here’s what Tatum posted to his Facebook and Twitter.
How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?
— Channing Tatum (@channingtatum) January 6, 2015
“How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?” Cajun, of course, being the native dialect of the popular X-Man. And yes, October 7, 2016 is a Friday. The Wrap then confirmed.
The most recent news we had on the Gambit movie was that screenwriter Josh Zetumer (the RoboCop reboot) was penning a draft based on a treatment by the character’s co-creator, Chris Claremont. Since this release date is real that draft must be coming along nicely. I’d assume we’ll start hearing about directors rather soon.
Tatum said the following about the character a few months back:
We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We’re obviously going to go to the saving-the-world superhero movies eventually, but maybe not for the first one. We kind of want to introduce this character in a very different way. When you try to do something different, you never really know right off the bat what that is. We’re feeling our way into it. And we really just gotta prove that concept of that person.
So does that refer to this solo film? And will he appear in X-Men: Apocalypse? We don’t know. But it definitely sounds like he’s ready to make a long term commitment to the character and a release date is a huge, huge step forward for the solo film.
Are you excited for the Gambit movie?

Pedro Almodovar has had a wild few years, dodging from the wild horror tale The Skin I Live In to the brightly colored comedy I’m So Excited!, which was also generally little-seen, at least in the US. Now he’s going to make a film called Silencio. Not to be confused with Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Silence, this Almodovar project is described by the director as “a return to the cinema of women” — that being a reference to his own body of work that is dominated by deeply-felt melodramas and comedies focused on the lives of women.
This new film will not be a comedy, but a serious drama — we’ve got what few details are currently public, after the break.
Almodovar told the Financial Times:
It’s a return to the cinema of women, of great female protagonists, and it’s a hard-hitting drama, which excites me…It’s called Silencio because that’s the principal element that drives the worst things that happen to the main female protagonist.
So, not at all a comedy then, not even a very Almodovar comedy. But this return to his core concern is promising regardless, and we can hope that it will stand well alongside his most-praised films. There’s no more info in the interview — no cast or specific story details — which is otherwise still quite interesting.
He does say,
I’d love to make another film like Women on the Verge but I haven’t managed it. Looking back on the film?.?.?.?it’s a fictional comedy but, over time, it seems to absolutely represent the 1980s in Spain, the era in which it was made. Without me having intended it, it captures the tolerance of the time, the joy of living at that time.

Microsoft and Xbox fans hoping to see what’s next from Kinect creative director Kudo Tsunoda are in for a treat this year, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer. He says on Twitter that Tsunoda’s next project–whatever it might be–is likely to come out of the shadows later this year.

Asked on Twitter by a fan for details about Tsunoda’s next project, Spencer confirmed that he is still with the company and teased: “2015 will be a big year for Kudo, he’s stepping back into the limelight.”
Unfortunately, Spencer did not share any further details.
So what might Tsunoda be working on? One possibility is Microsoft’s long-rumored Xbox VR headset, which we recently learned might be officially unveiled at E3 2015 in June. Development is reportedly far along, as Xbox VR development kits were recently sent to unnamed studios.

Another possibility is that Tsunoda is working on Microsoft’s other head-mounted display technology, the Google Glass-like Fortazela project that reportedly blends virtual reality and augmented reality. You can see a Fortazela concept shot at right.
Though Microsoft has yet to outline its official plans for the VR space, the company has been open in saying VR is something it’s been experimenting with for a long time.
Competitor Sony announced its own virtual reality device, Project Morpheus, during GDC in March 2014, though the company hasn’t said when it plans to launch the PlayStation 4 device or what it will cost. Meanwhile, the Facebook-owned Oculus Rift headset is also deep into development for PC.
Microsoft’s mysterious VR project has been in development for years, and the company even gave a demonstration of the tech to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Grand Theft Auto parent publisher Take-Two Interactive.
What do you think Tsunoda’s next project is? Let us know in the comments below!

Just as planned, Microsoft’s temporary $50 Xbox One price cut, which went into effect in early November 2014, is now a thing of the past. The console now starts at $400 at retailers across the US.

The $50 price cut brought the Xbox One down to $350–a full $50 below the starting price for the rival PlayStation 4. The price cut was also no doubt a major factor in the Xbox One’s success in November 2014, when the console outsold the PS4 in the US and UK.
In addition, PlayStation executive Andrew House has acknowledged that PlayStation 4 sales have been challenged since the Xbox One price drop.
If you act quickly, you may be able to buy an Xbox One for below $400. Online retail giant Amazon, as of 7:37 AM EDT, has 12 Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle units available for $380.
