  • Far Cry Survey Seeks Ideas on Future Settings, From Vampires to Vietnam

Publisher Ubisoft appears to have issued a survey to some of its customers, asking them what they would like to see in future Far Cry games.

The questionnaire, brought to light by Eurogamer, offers a broad range of scenarios for fans to approve or dismiss. Ideas include “a Far Cry game where you can fight against or join vampires”, as well as “a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world”, and even “a Far Cry game set in the modern day on a Jurassic Park-style island with dinosaurs”.

While the survey does not offer solid information on what approach Ubisoft Montreal will take for its next Far Cry game, it does suggest that those in charge of the franchise are keeping an open-mind on where the series could go.

Other possible scenarios in the survey include real-world settings such as Peru and Alaska, as well as moments in history such as the Vietnam War.

Work on Far Cry 4 commenced during the latter stages of the Far Cry 3 project–a common process of tandem game development that, if continued, means that a bulk of work on the next Far Cry project is already completed. That would suggest, though not confirm, that information from this survey would not apply to the next game in the series, but those beyond that.

Far Cry 4 shipped in November on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and last-gen consoles to generally positive critical reception. GameSpot’s Far Cry 4 review suggested the open-world FPS “represents the good, the bad, and ugly of video games all at once.”

“It’s awesome and messy and dumb and fun and annoying and gross and beautiful,” the review concluded.

  • Mighty No. 9 "Pretty Much Finished"

Mighty No. 9, the side-scrolling platform game produced by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, has passed a key development milestone and is nearing release.

In a New Year video message, embedded below, Inafune says the project is “pretty much finished, and from now on we’ll be heading into the porting and promotional stage”.

The video also showcases Inafune fighting through one of Mighty No. 9’s levels, appearing to struggle with its difficulty.

Developed by Inafune’s independent development studio, Comcept, Mighty No. 9 is funded by an overwhelmingly successful Kickstarter campaign, which rocketed past its $900,000 goal, ending with $3.8 million October 2013.

The game has been given a tentative “Spring 2015” release date target, set to ship on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

In Mighty No. 9, players step in the shoes of Beck, the 9th in a line of “powerful robots.” Somehow escaping a computer virus that has made all other mechanized creatures go berserk, Beck must “confront the final evil that threatens the planet.”

  • Watch Marvel's "Human-Sized" Ant-Man Teaser

Marvel Entertainment has released the first teaser preview for the Ant-Man, which you can watch above.

Technically, it’s the first “human-sized” teaser preview for the movie, following the release of the “ant-sized” trailer (below) released yesterday, a joke referencing Ant-Man’s ability to change his size.

The first trailer for the movie will air on ABC, 8 p.m. January 6, during an episode of Marvel’s show Agent Carter. Marvel also announced that it will air the first trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron on January 12 during the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship on ESPN starting at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Ant-Man, in case you’re unfamiliar with the comics, follows con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), who must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his Ant-Man suit from a new generation of threats.

Ant-Man is set to hit theaters on July 17.
