'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Begins Shooting in the US February 2016

    James Gunn

Unfortunately, the release of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is still over two years away with Marvel Studios set to put the film in theaters on May 5th, 2017. And therefore, it’ll still be awhile before the sequel to last year’s satisfying sci-fi adventure goes in front of cameras. But the good news is that we at least know when the film will begin production. Speaking with Periscope (via Superhero Hype), director James Gunn revealed that the sequel will star filming in February of 2016 in Pinewood Studios in Atlanta Georgia (so not the same Pinewood Studios that Star Wars: The Force Awakens shot in last year). That’s some good news! ›››

Anton Yelchin Has Trouble 'Burying the Ex' in International Trailer

    Burying the Ex

There’s a freaky Tim Burton movie in your living room.” If the indie horror comedy Life After Beth didn’t deliver the right kind of zombie romantic comedy you were hoping for, maybe Burying the Ex from Gremlins director Joe Dante is more your speed. Anton Yelchin stars in the story of a young man who thinks he’s met the perfect girl in Evelyn (Ashley Greene), but then becomes a nightmare to deal with at home. But it doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore when she dies, leaving him to fall in love with another girl (Alexandra Daddario). But that’s when Evelyn comes back from the dead to complicate things in the worst way, and the first international trailer shows off the messy results of that story unfolding. Watch? ›››

  • Snapchat Clues Point to Black Ops 3 Reveal

Call of Duty fans are following a breadcrumb trail of clues which is expected to lead up to the formal reveal of Black Ops 3.

On Monday, an unexpected update to the console editions of Black Ops 2 was deployed, but it appeared at first to make no noticeable changes to the popular first-person shooter. Players discovered, however, that a strange symbol had been covertly added onto in-game posters found within the multiplayer maps.

These images, as documented in the YouTube video above, are Snapchat friend request codes. When activated, these codes lead to a peculiar video that people speculate is somehow related to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

As shown below, the ten-second video features a blinking eye, a shadowy woodland area, and finally a solitary tree standing within plains of snow. Some players have noticed, though it may be a coincidence, that the shadow cast by the woodland trees creates a sunlight-silhouette of the roman numeral III.

  • Driveclub Servers Unavailable for up to Eight Hours Today

Driveclub Servers Unavailable for up to Eight Hours Today

PlayStation 4 racing game Driveclub‘s online mode–a major draw for the title–is currently unavailable and will remain that way for a good portion of today, April 7. The downtime, which spans up to eight total hours, is the result of Evolution deploying “major updates” to the racer’s servers.

APR 7: We are rolling out major updates to the DRIVECLUB servers today. Online play will be unavailable for up to 8hrs from 11am BST.

    — DRIVECLUB (@DRIVECLUB) April 7, 2015

This downtime, if it spans the full eight hours, will run through about 7 PM BST / 2 PM EDT / 11 AM PDT. Driveclub’s offline mode can still be played during the maintenance period.

“Apologies for any inconvenience this causes and thank you for your patience while we continue working to improve the game,” developer Evolution said.

Evolution has been making regular server upgrades to Driveclub since the game’s troubled release in October 2014 in an effort to improve the overall experience and to prepare for the launch of the free PlayStation Plus edition. The studio said previously that, while this free version is not canceled, the developer won’t release it until it’s confident the servers will hold up.

  • NBA 2K14 Server Shutdown Wipes Player Save Files

A scheduled server switch-off for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions of NBA 2K14 has wiped players’ save files because they required online synchronisation.

Despite publisher 2K Games previously assuring fans that save files would survive the transition, players began to notice in early April that their career mode data was no longer accessible.

2K Games did not warn players that their save files would be deleted, and has only confirmed the issue via responses to emails.

One such message, obtained by Polygon, explains that those who still play the basketball sim will need to restart their career mode if they wish to continue playing.

A 2K Support representative wrote: “This means that if you had created a MyCareer or a MyGM online save file that was once connected to our servers it too sadly has retired and is no longer available for use and it would be necessary to re-create these files as offline saves.”

Players who have poured hours of time into the game have expressed their disappointment at the decision.

On Twitter, one player exclaimed: “Was 1/3 into my tenth and final season of NBA 2K14 career mode and you shut down the servers for good? Thanks a lot, 2K, I’m done with you!”

Was 1/3 into my tenth and final season of #NBA2K14 career mode and you shut down the servers for good? Thanks a lot, @2K, I’m done with you!

Another wrote: “Hard to believe a game that is 1.5 years old is useless already. Can’t access my season now. Awful way to treat your customers.”

Hard 2 believe a game that is 1.5 years old is useless already. Can’t access my season now. Awful way 2 treat ur customers. #nba2k14

    — Reid (@metalupurthrsh) April 1, 2015

Freelance games journalist Chris Scullion suggested on his blog that a bond of trust has been broken. He wrote: “Just like that, 2K Sports has ended my 73-hour single player career by killing its online servers.”

GameSpot has contacted 2K to discuss whether the game’s successor, NBA 2K15, will also implement the same save file deletion should its servers ever be switched off.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game are not affected.

The support message continues: “Sadly this may come as an inconvenience to some of you and if so we truly do understand and can feel for how upsetting this may seem as there always is a special bond that occurs between a player and their MyCareer save but all good things must come to an end and rest assured your MyCareer or MyGM went out while on top!”

  • UK Games Chart: Dark Souls 2 Remaster Joins Bloodborne in Top Ten

Two separate games from Tokyo studio From Software now feature in the UK all-format games chart, according to official data.

While the PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne drops one place to third during its second week since release, its predecessor also joins it in the top ten. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin–a remaster of the acclaimed 2014 title for Xbox One and PS4–enters the chart at eighth. It marks the first time two titles developed by the studio have featured in the same chart bracket simultaneously.

EA’s police-themed FPS Battlefield Hardline, meanwhile, retains its position in first for the third week running. The console version of Grand Theft Auto V, ahead of its release on PC, climbs to second.

Easter sales promotions help Far Cry 4 climb three places to fifth, while Dying Light maintains its successful run, holding in at ninth.

Two new releases made the top 40. Sims 4 expansion Get to Work enters at 18, while Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, which can only be played on the New Nintendo 3DS, comes in at 27.

  • Smash Bros. Wii U vs. Brawl Graphics Comparison for Lucas DLC

During the latest Nintendo Direct, the company revealed that fan-favorite Lucas would be returning to the Smash Bros. franchise this June. That may be something of a wait, but the YouTube channel Master0fHyrule directly compared the animations from the Nintendo Direct trailer for Lucas and his previous appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

The results are pretty neat and help highlight some of the key differences between Brawl and the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS releases. The Wii U footage looks much clearer because of the bump to high-definition visuals. Lucas is also a bit faster in the new version, which matches the general increase in the speed of play in the latest Smash Bros. release.

Lucas will be the second DLC character for Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. The first downloadable fighter, Mewtwo, will be available on April 28. Players who purchased Smash Bros. on both systems and registered their copies with Club Nintendo before March 31 will receive download codes for Mewtwo for free. Everyone else can purchase the character on one system for $3.99 or both for $4.99.

Masahiro Sakurai, the series’ director, previously stated that there would be no more paid DLC. As such it’s not clear whether players will need to pay for Lucas as some will with Mewtwo.
