It’s easy to make fun of classic Japanese video games (JRPGs especially) for their poor English, and assume the reason for this was simply one of neglect . Which is kinda true, but there are other reasons behind it as well, and they’re really interesting!

In the original Star Wars trilogy, we saw Luke Skywalker pull off amazing shit. Destroying the Death Star. The cool-ass sequence where he stormed Jabba the Hutt’s skiff. (That somersault!) We saw him struggle a lot, too. But, the newest issue of the Star Wars comic gives us a glimpse at how bad his self-doubt was.

If you were worried that the announcement of Total War: Warhammer (why not Total Warhammer?) is coming at the expense of proper Total War games, Creative Assembly has told PC Gamer the Warhammer title is being developed by a “completely separate team. The historic thread goes on uninterrupted.” Phew.

Ever since production began on Zoolander 2, there’s always been some kind of cool update on the film, whether it’s a new cast member, or a glimpse behind the scenes. Billy Zane was recently revealed to pop up again after having a cameo in the original flick, but this time we have word of a new cast member joining the mix. “Portlandia” creator and star Fred Armisen recently posted a video to Instagram revealing that he’s heading to Europe, and Ben Stiller confirmed it was for a role in the comedy sequel when he reposted the video. Armisden was even nice enough to pack some iced coffee for Stiller and the crew. The comedian joins his former “Saturday Night Live” colleague Kristen Wiig as another unknown new character in fashion. ›››

As is customary with development of feature films in Hollywood, it’s been a slow road for the real-life inspired showbiz tale of Russ & Roger Go Beyond. The project first surfaced in the fall of 2013, with Sobini Films, Permut Presentations and Chautauqua Entertainment announcing the acquisition of the screenplay from Christopher Cluess (a writer on “Saturday Night Live” and “The Simpsons”) which follows the friendship between filmmaker Russ Meyer and Roger Ebert while working on the film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls for Fox in the late 1960s. And now, a year and a half later, the film just may have a director. ›››

The remake nobody asked for is coming this Christmas with Point Break, a new approach to the 1991 action thriller of the same name that was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and starred Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. The film has become an action classic, but that’s not stopping Hollywood from trying to cash in on its legacy with a new version starring Edgar Ramirez (Deliver Us from Evil) and Luke Bracey (The November Man). Now the first photos have been unveiled after some footage was shown at CinemaCon in Las Vegas yesterday, and at least now we know that Ramirez surfs and Bracey runs. That’s exciting, right? ›››

If you happened to catch Unfriended in theaters this past weekend, then you may have been treated to a bit of a surprise, which is rare these days. Universal Pictures decided to release the teaser trailer for M. Night Shyamalan‘s horror film The Visit in theaters exclusively this weekend without any pomp or circumstance. It will be available online this Thursday, and in the meantime, a cool, knitted teaser poster has arrived for the film that marks The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable director’s return to horror, hopefully with a good film this time. The trailer is creepy, but you’ll have to wait a couple days before you see it. Look! ›››

Can it be done? Can (and will) a movie studio successfully market a major movie without any trailers or clips or actual footage from the movie? (And I don’t mean a tiny indie that becomes a big hit.) That’s the question bouncing around my head this week, augmented by all the marketing madness occurring at the CinemaCon convention (where movie studios go all out showing movie theater owners their slate for the upcoming year). With the release of the latest Tomorrowland trailer this week, the discussion has restarted on Twitter about not watching any trailers at all any more, a growing movement among dedicated movie lovers. So, that makes me wonder: is marketing a movie successfully without spoiling any footage possible? ›››

Last winter, we featured an international teaser trailer for the animated adaptation of the classic 1943 tale The Little Prince. The film hails from France as the most expensive animated feature every produced in the country ($80 million), and the combination of wonderful 3D computer animation and beautiful stop-motion animation makes for quite the magical pairing for this story of a curious, magical prince and his interplanetary adventures. In this version (dubbed with English), the story is framed by an aviator narrator (Jeff Bridges) telling the prince’s tale to his neighbor’s busy little girl (Mackenzie Foy). Watch! ›››
