On a very special Friday installment of The Steam Stream, I’m playing Solarix, a new sci-fi horror game with open-ended Deus-Ex-style gameplay. Watch me get embarrassingly frightened below.

Meanwhile, back in the Marvel cinematic universe, it’s business as usual. Iron Man soars through the air blasting tanks and terrorists with his repulser beams. Thor, immaculate hair flowing, tosses his hammer around controlling the lightning. Hulk, you know, smashes. Even Hawkeye, with his bow and arrows, flings his…arrows with his…bow. Yes, it’s everything you’ve come to expect and anticipate when the Avengers get back together, and Avengers: Age of Ultron has familiarity in abundance. That’s good and bad when you get down to it, and even with the bloom off the rose, Marvel sure knows how to entertain with the best. ›››

Just after we got our first look at the new ride our heroes in a half-shell will be cruising around in, not to mention news of a different actor playing their arch nemesis Shredder, producer Michael Bay has given us another glimpse of something new in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. We already knew “Arrow” star Stephen Amell was taking the role of vigilante Casey Jones, and now we have our first look at the hockey-masked character. Production on the film is already underway, so you can probably expect some more glimpses like this in the near future. He looks about as you’d expect, but maybe a little too clean cut. ›››

While we wait to see if Channing Tatum really ends up starring in a spin-off of the forthcoming Ghostbusters reboot with Chris Pratt, the 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike star has become attached to another project, and this one has been gestating for awhile too. The Wrap reports Tatum is attached to lead a big screen adaptation of Joe Haldeman’s classic sci-fi novel The Forever War, a project that was picked up by Ridley Scott a few years ago. However, the rights have lapsed, and that’s put Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures in a bidding war to pick up the project that has a script from Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts. ›››

Just after the emotions of Pixar Animation’s Inside Out reacted to a trailer for The Avengers: Age of Ultron, audiences will be reacting to the entire film once it starts screening around the United States this evening. And for one last piece of hype before the Marvel Studios sequel arrives, why not take a look back at the entire Marvel cinematic universe up until this point? This is bound to happen before each installment of The Avengers every few years, and it’s a cool montage of the great stuff we’ve seen from Marvel so far on the big screen, from the first Iron Man back in 2008 up through The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Let’s do this! ›››

Even though blockbuster summer officially begins with The Avengers: Age of Ultron kicking off with 7pm screenings all over the United States tonight, we’ve still got a little while to wait for one of the other anticipated releases this season, Jurassic World. Just recently we got a slew of dinosaur action in the second theatrical trailer, finally showing off the intimidating Indominus Rex, and now we get a new featurette, complete with nostalgia from stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, director Colin Trevorrow and more for the original 1993 action adventure where everything started, Jurassic Park. And then it shifts gears to begin talking about Jurassic World, with some words from Steven Spielberg. ›››

Warren Spector, the veteran games developer who helped create the seminal Deus Ex original, has praised the series’ 2010 reboot Human Revolution, but hopes the next game offers more than what was shown in the recent reveal trailer.
In April, studio Eidos Montreal aired the debut trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided–the next title in the series, in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
Writing to fans on Reddit, Spector explained he was a fan of Human Revolution, stating: “I don’t finish a lot of games and I finished DX:HR. That’ll tell you something. When I did finish it, I kinda sat back and thought, ‘Wow, I just had a Deus Ex experience.’ It sounded like DX and felt like DX. It was pretty cool.”
However, for now, he is not quite as positive about the next project. He said: “I thought the Mankind Divided trailer was pretty violence-o-rific, which bugged me a little. I mean, Deus Ex was never about killing stuff. It was about picking your own play style, which might involve killing stuff.”
Nevertheless, Spector appeared confident that the Mankind Divided video might not be representative of the final game.
“In trailers, you just have to give people the most action-packed stuff you can, I assume,” he said.
“Given how well Human Revolution did at the whole choice and consequence idea I’m hoping–and have confidence–the actual game will be a little more in the ‘Play-style Matters’ mold.”
“Play-style Matters” is a phrase coined by Spector to generally describe freedom in a game to make your own choices and, as a consequence, how its characters and world responds to those decisions.
