  • Street Fighter 5 to be Supported Until "2020 or So," Says Capcom

Capcom is planning to support Street Fighter V “as far as 2020 or so,” says the game’s executive producer, Yoshinori Ono.

In an interview with Famitsu (translated by Event Hubs), Ono replied to a question about Street Fighter V’s development schedule going forward by saying, “It’s not just a 1-2 year thing. We’re looking pretty far ahead … We’ve planned out as far as 2020 or so.”

Fellow producer Tomoaki Ayano then added, “Street Fighter V is a title we’re adding on to as it goes along, so we’re working on it while planning ahead on the best way to develop it further.”

Ono went on to discuss the chances of the game’s publisher, Capcom, releasing a non-Street Fighter fighting game before the next entry in the SF series: “I’d be happy if we could. But first, we’d have to solidify Street Fighter V as an eSports title. I said in the beginning that we’ve seen a higher number of entrants than we had in the Street Fighter IV era, but we’d like to heighten that even further.

“The more people participate, the bigger tournaments we can host, and the more people are going to watch them, which is directly connected with our sales, and that’s going to decide the future.”

In an attempt to make Street Fighter V more tournament-friendly, Capcom recently banned the game’s latest stage, Skies of Honor, from use in the Capcom Cup. The publisher is teasing another new stage and character, though it’s not yet clear if these will be used in the upcoming tournament season.

Watch: Trailer for Jay Baruchel's Sequel 'Goon: Last of the Enforcers'

Goon: Last of the Enforcers Trailer

“I totally thought you were dead.” He’s back! The first teaser trailer has debuted for the sequel Goon: Last of the Enforcers, bringing back Seann William Scott as hockey “goon” Doug Glatt. The sequel picks up where the first one left off, with Glatt back in the game because he just couldn’t give it up. Jay Baruchel also returns, and makes his directorial debut behind the lens, too. The full cast includes Elisha Cuthbert, Liev Schreiber, Alison Pill, Wyatt Russell, Marc-André Grondin, Jason Jones and Kim Coates. This looks like a fun follow-up to the original Goon, which has quickly become a cult classic sports comedy. There seems to be plenty of on-ice violence and off-ice humor in this, and I’m glad to see Schreiber is back. ›››

Trailer for Restored 'The Lion in Winter' Starring Hepburn & O'Toole

    The Lion in Winter Trailer

“Now I have only one desire left – to see you King.” Rialto Pictures has revealed a captivating trailer for the brand new 4K restoration re-release of the classic historical drama The Lion in Winter, which won three Academy Awards back in 1969. Katharine Hepburn (who won Best Actress for this) stars as Eleanor of Aquitaine, along with Peter O’Toole (who was also nominated but didn’t win) as King Henry II – they play husband and wife. The ensemble cast also includes a young Anthony Hopkins, a young Timothy Dalton, John Castle, Nigel Terry, Jane Merrow and Nigel Stock. This is perfectly timed for a holiday season re-release, as the film takes place during a Christmas Court in the 12th Century. This trailer also features some of John Barry’s Oscar-winning score. If you’re never seen the film, no better time than now to catch it. ›››

  • Avatar 2 May Have a Release Date

Avatar 2 May Have a Release Date

James Cameron has been talking about his Avatar sequels for a long time, but the first of these is yet to be given an official release date. While this still remains the case, Fox has now scheduled a movie from Cameron’s production company that may be the follow-up to his 2009 sci-fi blockbuster.

As Deadline reports, the studio has set a date of December 21, 2018 for a film from the director’s Lightstorm Entertainment. Avatar 2 has been rumoured for Christmas 2018 release for some time, and Cameron himself has spoken about his hopes to have it ready by then.

In September, the director was asked about the movie arriving in December 2018. “We haven’t moved that target yet,” he told Variety. “The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern. I want them to be released as close together as possible.

“If it’s an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we’re able to fulfill on that promise.”

Earlier this month, Cameron revealed that he hoped to make Avatar 2 and the preceding three films in glasses-free 3D. “I’m going to push,” he said. “Not only for better tools, workflow, high dynamic range and high frame rates–the things we are working toward. I’m still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen–with no glasses. We’ll get there.”

The first Avatar earned $2.7 billion worldwide, making it the most successful movie ever made in terms of box office earnings.
