  • Cooking Mama: CookStar Serves Up Series First Vegetarian Mode

    New details leek.

Cooking Mama will no longer appeal purely to carnivores, as the latest instalment in the culinary series will offer a vegetarian mode. Amazon Germany has leaked the first information on the release, after its subtitle – CookStarappeared on an Australian age rating site earlier in the month. “For the first time, Cooking Mama offers both traditional and vegetarian recipes: Burritos, Bibimbap, Bubble Tea, Baked Alaska, Poke Bowls, and much more. Explore the diverse menu to find out what suits your taste,” a Google Translation of the synopsis reads.

Scheduled to release on the PlayStation 4 via publisher Planet Entertainment, the title will include co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes for up to two players, and will utilise a mixture of traditional and motion controls. There’ll apparently be a Challenge Mode for seasoned chefs, though novices will be able to summon the assistance of the titular matriarch. Unfortunately there’s no word on a vegan mode, so frequenters of upmarket Shoreditch coffee shops are encouraged to give this one a miss.

  • Forum Poster Is Successful in Requesting a Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Pre-Order Theme Be Put on the PS Store

Will be added in the next two weeks.

ResetEra user Genetrik didn’t pre-order Mirror’s Edge Catalyst when it released on PS4 in the summer of 2016, meaning he missed out on an exclusive theme that only those who secured their digital copies early would gain access to. The user in question still wanted to purchase the theme over three years later, however, and so took to the popular message board to make a plea to EA.

Using a polite tone, he posed the question: “Dear EA: can we kindly after 3 years get the chance to buy this Mirrors edge pre-order theme?” Someone who works at EA quickly responded last Sunday, stating that they will “poke a few people and see if anything can be done”.

  • Upcoming Wolfenstein: Youngblood Patch Will Allow You to Pause the Game

    Thank god for that.

One of the stupidest things about last month’s bang average Wolfenstein: Youngblood was that you couldn’t even pause the game when you were playing by yourself in an offline state. The game would continue to run in the background while you browsed its menus, but it looks like MachineGames is listening to criticism and adding a pause function in a future patch.

As part of the 1.0.4 update, you’ll be able to pause the game during offline play. It comes as part of a longer list of tweaks, fixes, and changes, but this bullet point is quite clearly the headliner of the patch. That’s not all, though, as MachineGames has shared details of the update that’ll arrive after 1.0.4, and it’s this one that seems to address some of the biggest issues players have been facing, ourselves included.

  • Tekken Soundtracks Hit Spotify and Other Music Streaming Platforms

    Jukebox mode.

  • Review: Ancestors Legacy – An Impressive, Robust Console RTS

    Generational talent.

As recent as last console generation, an RTS on console – with the exception of Halo Wars – was pretty much guaranteed to be a nightmarish experience. There are just too many systems and too many things to monitor to be able to successfully transfer the genre to a controller. Fast forward a few more years and now it’s commonplace to find not just functional console RTS games but damn good ones. Enter Ancestors Legacy, a title released on Steam in 2018, but always with the intent of hitting consoles.

An RTS with a Viking slant, Ancestors Legacy offers up a robust but delicately streamlined title that works exceedingly well with a controller. Like many RTS titles, the campaigns – of which there are eight, spread across four factions – serve as glorified tutorials for the online and Skirmish modes. Playing as one of the Vikings, Slavs, Anglo-Saxons, or Germans, you can work your way through the adequate but not overly impressive stories. Or you can compete in up to 6-player matches, with a wide array of sliders and options to customise your Skirmish experience. As you’d expect, the factions come with different pros, cons, and hero characters to make the most of, so choose wisely.

  • MediEvil’s PS4 Remake Massively Upgraded in Off-Screen Footage

    Sir Dan’s the man.

The last time we saw MediEvil’s anticipated PlayStation 4 remake, it was looking rough to say the least. It looks like developer Other Ocean Interactive has invested some serious effort behind-the-scenes, though, as the title appears pretty polished in this off-screen footage from Brazilian convention Game XP 2019.

While it’s not direct-feed, the framerate appears much slicker, while the visuals have been bumped up to boot. It’s perhaps worth remembering that this is still very much a remake, so the occasionally cumbersome gameplay of the original has been retained. Nevertheless, this looks much closer to what we expected it to be all along, and we’re really looking forward to its launch in late October.

  • Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? – Issue 284

    Olympic effort.

Premier League football has finally made its long awaited return, and that’s about to eat into our weekends once more. The good news is that the video game release calendar is still relatively dry, so it’ll be backlogs all around before the heavy hitters arrive later in the month.

    Sammy Barker, Editor

I imported a copy of SEGA’s Tokyo 2020 title from Japan, and it’s proving brilliant fun so far. I’ve missed the arcade sports games of yore, but this feels like a return to the Dreamcast days I’m so nostalgic for.
