Official Trailer for Migrant Workers Documentary 'The Workers Cup'

    The Workers Cup

“People come here to fulfill their dreams.” Passion River Films has debuted their official US trailer for a documentary titled The Workers Cup, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year (in 2017) and went on to play at tons of festivals all over the world including CPH:DOX and the Zurich Film Festival. From director Adam Sobel, who spent years in Qatar getting footage, the film profiles the construction of the venues that Qatar is building for the World Cup in 2022. “Inside Qatar’s labor camps, African and Asian migrant workers building the facilities of the 2022 World Cup compete in a football tournament of their own.” What most people don’t know, is that these migrant workers are dying by the dozens (source) trying to complete these facilities, living in terrible conditions – but they still strive on in love for the sport and a desire to contribute something to the world through their hard labor. This doc looks like it’s worth our time. ›››

  • Third Trailer for Stefano Sollima's Sequel 'Sicario: Day Of The Soldado'

Third Trailer for Stefano Sollima's Sequel 'Sicario: Day Of The Soldado'

    Sicario: Day Of The Soldado

“Ah, beautiful day. Blue skies. Large caliber weapons. I love getting out of the office.” Sony Pictures has released a third official trailer for the dark thriller Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the sequel to Sicario, Denis Villeneuve’s intense thriller set along the US-Mexico border. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro return to star in this one, which looks like it has more action and even more intensity than the first film. In Soldado, the drug war has escalated as the cartels have shifted to trafficking terrorists across the border. Del Toro seems to take the lead as the point man running the latest intrusion into the cartel scene in hopes of cleaning it up. Also starring Isabela Moner, Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener. This is looking very good, but it’s an easy sell with all the action and Brolin being badass as always. ›››

  • First Trailer for Psychological Thriller 'Susu' From Director Yixi Sun

First Trailer for Psychological Thriller 'Susu' From Director Yixi Sun

    Susu Trailer

“There’s nothing for you to worry about… you’re perfectly safe here.” The first official trailer has debuted for a film playing at the Seattle Film Festival coming up this summer, titled Susu, the feature directorial debut of Chinese writer/director Yixi Sun. This “psychological thriller with a stylish international twist” is about two Chinese girls who take a film transcription job located in a heritage English countryside mansion. Discovering entangled family secrets about the Kunqu Opera star Susu, they find it almost impossible to escape, physically and emotionally. It was actually shot at historical sites, including a 16th century English mansion and the old house of Charlie Chaplin and his mother. Susu stars Zitong Wu, Lin Zhu, Frederick Szkoda, Steve Edwin, Tom Mannion, Laura June Hudson, Roslyn Hill, and Junjie Mao as Susu. This looks extra melodramatic and a bit campy, but I quite like the intertwining of old cinema and thriller. ›››

  • Second Teaser Trailer for Mystery 'A Simple Favor' with Anna Kendrick

Second Teaser Trailer for Mystery 'A Simple Favor' with Anna Kendrick

    A Simple Favor Teaser Trailer

“People do terrible things for their own reasons…” Lionsgate has debuted another official teaser trailer for the mystery film A Simple Favor, the latest from acclaimed director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy, Ghostbusters). The first teaser for this was quite an introduction, setting up the stakes for this missing-woman thriller. Anna Kendrick plays a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s sudden disappearance from their small town. Blake Lively co-stars as Emily, and this also stars Linda Cardellini, Henry Golding, Rupert Friend, Eric Johnson, Jean Smart, Sarah Baker, and Andrew Rannells. These teasers are very cool, with the fun animation graphics twisting everything around between them. I’m really curious to find out what this is all about. Check out this new teaser below. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Documentary 'Spiral' About Anti-Semitism in France

Official Trailer for Documentary 'Spiral' About Anti-Semitism in France

    Spiral Documentary Trailer

“How can we learn to live together?” Cohen Media Group has debuted an official trailer for a documentary titled Spiral, made by director Laura Fairrie (The Battle for Barking). This premiered at DOC NYC and a few other festivals last year, and it’s a look at the rise of anti-Semitism and assaults against Jews in France. “With anti-Semitic movements on the rise across Europe, particularly in France, many members of the Jewish community are faced with a difficult choice: stay in France and face down the bigotry that seems to be gaining cultural and social acceptance through popular cultural figures like the comedian Dieudonné, known for his signature inverted Nazi salute, or leave the country to seek refuge in Israel and beyond.” This looks like a sad and infuriating examination of the rise of modern anti-Semitism, from a caring filmmaker. ›››

  • First Trailer for Jacques Audiard's Western Comedy 'The Sisters Brother'

First Trailer for Jacques Audiard's Western Comedy 'The Sisters Brother'

    The Sisters Brother Trailer

“Alright – you’re not going to like what comes next…” Annapurna has debuted the first official trailer for a new western from French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, titled The Sisters Brother, adapted from Patrick Dewitt’s acclaimed novel of the same name. The film is about two brothers, Eli and Charlie Sisters played by Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly, who are hired to kill a prospector who has stolen from their boss. It’s set in Oregon in 1851 and is a dark comedy in addition to being a western thriller, which is a good blend of genres for Audiard (of The Beat That My Heart Skipped, A Prophet, Rust and Bone). The full cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed, Rutger Hauer, Carol Kane, and Niels Arestrup. This is a wacky, but amusing trailer that certainly introduces this film in a way that will get your attention. Enjoy it. ›››

Review: 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' is a Fun, Fast-Paced Space Adventure

Solo: A Star Wars Story Review

The “Star Wars Expanded Universe” – Lucasfilm’s stockpile of officially licensed books, comics, video games, television series, spin-off films, and other media created outside of the official canon – began with the 1978 novel, Splinter of the Mind’s Eye. Written by Alan Dean Foster, the direct sequel to George Lucas’s original 1977 film drew inspiration from early drafts of the script. In 1979, author Brian Daley expanded the universe further with Han Solo at Stars’ End, the first in a trilogy of Solo-centric adventures (which would later be turned into comic books). For over 35 years, the EU gave Star Wars fans what they wanted most – more Star Wars – even if the stories and character developments weren’t considered canon by the creator. ›››

  • New Red Band Trailer for Action Film 'Hotel Artemis' with Jodie Foster

New Red Band Trailer for Action Film 'Hotel Artemis' with Jodie Foster

    Hotel Artemis Trailer

“Easy fellas, everybody’s gonna get fixed up.” Global Road Entertainment has released a wild new red band trailer for the action film Hotel Artemis, the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, M:I – Rogue Nation) who also wrote the script for this. Set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, Jodie Foster plays “The Nurse”, a nurse who runs a secret, members-only emergency room for criminals. The first trailer for this teased a slick, entertaining action film, and this trailer looks even better than that one. The kick ass ensemble cast for this “stylish, high-octane action-thriller” includes Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum, Brian Tyree Henry, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto, Charlie Day, and Dave Bautista. This is an awesome trailer, introducing all the different characters – this is exactly the kind of trailer this movie needed to finally sell me completely. I’m so there for opening weekend. Have fun. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Action Movie 'Skyscraper' Starring Dwayne Johnson

Second Trailer for Action Movie 'Skyscraper' Starring Dwayne Johnson

    Skyscraper Trailer

“Just the man I was looking for…!” Universal has released a second trailer for the disaster action movie Skyscraper, following the first trailer which dropped during the Super Bowl earlier this year. Skyscraper stars Dwayne Johnson as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. When a fire breaks out on a big tower in China, he’s framed for it, and finds himself on the run while trying to save his family trapped inside the burning skyscraper. This also stars Pablo Schreiber, Neve Campbell, Roland Møller, Kevin Rankin, Byron Mann, Chin Han, Paul McGillion, and Adrian Holmes. They’ve admitted this is inspired by Die Hard, and it certainly has that vibe, which actually makes me want to see it even more if I’m honest. This looks like it might be badass. ›››

  • Carey Mulligan in a Teaser Trailer for 'Wildlife' Directed by Paul Dano

Carey Mulligan in a Teaser Trailer for 'Wildlife' Directed by Paul Dano

    Wildlife Trailer

“If you’ve got a better plan for me, tell me.” IFC Films has debuted the first official trailer for Wildlife, the feature directorial debut of actor Paul Dano. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews, and also went on to play in the Critics’ Week sidebar at the Cannes Film Festival this summer. Wildlife tells the story of a young husband and wife living in the 1960s in a small town in Montana, adapted from Richard Ford’s novel of the same name. Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal star, and Ed Oxenbould plays their teenage son. It’s a subtle film about family and the breakdown of this concept by following Mulligan as the housewife who realizes she needs to break free. The cast includes Bill Camp and Zoe Margaret Colletti. This is only a teaser trailer, so it’s not a full reveal, but it will give you a good idea what to expect with this fine American drama. And all the critics will be feting this one all year. Take a look. ›››
