Watch: Full UK Trailer for Spielberg's 'Bridge of Spies' with Tom Hanks

    Bridge of Spies UK Trailer

“Every one deserves a defense, every person matters.” Damn this looks so good. 20th Century Fox UK has debuted the full UK trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, starring Tom Hanks as a lawyer stuck right in the middle of the Cold War. This trailer begins the way the first US trailer ends, then rebuilds that momentum and it’s fantastic. This looks really, really good – almost better than everything else coming up this fall, but then I remind myself oh ya, it is a Spielberg movie. Makes sense. The cast includes Amy Ryan, Mark Rylance, Austin Stowell & Alan Alda. I love the way this trailer is edited, showing the beginning at the end yet giving us so much more in the middle. Only three more months until the new Spielberg hits. ›››

  • First Look: Paul Feig's Vintage Ecto-1 from the New 'Ghostbusters'

First Look: Paul Feig's Vintage Ecto-1 from the New 'Ghostbusters'

    Ghostbusters Ecto-1

What are they gonna drive? A truck? A car? Nah, the Ecto-1 of course! Director Paul Feig has revealed the first two photos of the brand new vintage Ecto-1 from new Ghostbusters movie in the works. The original Ecto-1 was a 1959 Cadillac professional chassis, this seems to be a slightly newer model, but not by much. This certainly looks like the kind of hunk of junk Melissa McCarthy’s character has had in her garage since she was a kid, and they’ve requisitioned it to ‘bust some ghosts. Feig also posted a shot of the backside of the car, which shows the classic Ecto-1 license plate clearly. I like the look of this. At least it wasn’t modernized. ›››

  • Take a Hit of This New 'American Ultra' Poster Made for Comic-Con

Take a Hit of This New 'American Ultra' Poster Made for Comic-Con

    American Ultra Poster

Everyone’s Getting Smoked. I am really, really digging the marketing materials for this movie – American Ultra, the upcoming “stoner Jason Bourne” comedy arriving this August. Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart star as a pot-loving couple in a small town whose lives are thrown into disarray when government agents show up to eliminate Eisenberg. The first trailer looks hilarious, but the posters have been absolutely perfect – the right mix of stoner-inspired wackiness, with Eisenberg/Stewart zaniness, without any terribly Photoshopped floating heads. Nice. With Comic-Con 2015 taking place this week, Lionsgate has unveiled another fantastic poster along with a comic book cover for a comic that apparently has a key role in the film. ›››

  • Phil Lord & Chris Miller to Direct Han Solo 'Star Wars' Movie for 2018

Phil Lord & Chris Miller to Direct Han Solo 'Star Wars' Movie for 2018

    Star Wars Anthology

Time to geek out, my friends! Because everything is awesome (in a galaxy far, far away). Disney + Lucasfilm have officially announced that The LEGO Movie co-directors Chris Miller & Phil Lord will be directing the next upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie. Currently set for release in May of 2018 (on May 25th, 2018 in the summer), this second spin-off (following Rogue One) in the Star Wars Anthology series will be about Han Solo. Specifically, it’s about “how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.” The screenplay is written by father/son team Lawrence Kasdan & Jon Kasdan. Yes! This is the news we were waiting for. ›››

Netflix Confirms Releases for New 'Pee-wee' + 'Beasts of No Nation'

    Beasts of No Nation

An updated set of release dates from Netflix for their first batch of theatrically released films distributed by Netflix themselves. The digital network is finally breaking into the game of theatrical distribution and will be experimenting with a release strategy of opening in theaters and Netflix at the same time. Some theaters have pushed back already, so exact release plans are still unconfirmed, but the dates are set for a few of their initial projects due out in the next year. Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation, which has been waiting for a release, is now confirmed for October 16th this fall. Adam Sandler’s new comedy The Ridiculous Six, which will only be available on Netflix not in theaters, will be released on December 11th later this year. ›››

  • First Official US Trailer for 'Breathe' Directed by Mélanie Laurent

First Official US Trailer for 'Breathe' Directed by Mélanie Laurent

    Breathe Trailer

“I feel like I don’t know you at all anymore.” Film Movement has debuted an official US trailer for the film directed by Mélanie Laurent, Breathe, also known as Respire, a drama about two young friends. Starring Joséphine Japy and Lou de Laâge, this received rave reviews out of the Cannes Film Festival and looks to be very beautiful, very intimate, yet powerful coming-of-age drama. Laurent, best known as an actress from Now You See Me or Inglourious Basterds, is only directing here and seems to be doing an exceptional job. I’m very curious to see this when it hits US theaters this fall. See the trailer with English subtitles below. ›››

Watch: 'The Simpsons' and 'Akira' Combine in First 'Bartkira' Trailer

    Bartkira Trailer

“This year’s most controversial video has arrived!” We’ve seen “The Simpsons” redo the opening sequence inspired by everyone from Hayao Miyazaki to Guillermo del Toro, but how about a semi-official mash-up of “The Simpsons” and a seminal anime? We present: Bartkira, a mash-up of “The Simpsons” and Akira, made back in the “early 90s” but only found recently. Thanks to a tip from The Verge, we took a look at this, our jaw dropped to the floor and we had to go tell everyone about it. The trailer is perfectly animated like the original Akira trailer (which we’ve also embedded below), but with all The Simpsons characters and it’s amazing. “It is in no way officially associated with Fox Animation, Toho, or any other legal properties that own the rights to The Simpsons and Akira. We are a bunch of fans who did this for free and are profiting in no way off of this other than having a larf.” There’s an entire set of manga and art here to go with it. Enjoy! ›››

  • Early Concept Art Glimpse at Spielberg's Postponed 'Robopocalypse'

Early Concept Art Glimpse at Spielberg's Postponed 'Robopocalypse'

    Robopocalypse

Now what do we have here? A few new bits of robo concept art are floating around for Steven Spielberg’s postponed (or delayed/shelved) project Robopocalypse. If you recall, we covered this movie intently for years on the site, as Spielberg was actually hard at work on pre-production and almost started filming. They even had a cast in place and were getting close, but it fell apart right at the last minute. “I found another way to tell the story,” Spielberg said in early 2013. In the meantime, artist Patrick Janicke’s work has appeared online detailing various robots and robotic interfaces. It’s worth a look, though I’m honestly not sure how all this fits into the movie. I guess I just want Spielberg to make more sci-fi again. In time. For now we get this. ›››

Hollywood Producer Jerry Weintraub Has Passed Away at Age 77

One of those iconic producers is Jerry Weintraub, who produced a number of Hollywood features including the original The Karate Kid trilogy, the new Ocean’s Eleven trilogy with an amazing ensemble cast, the comedy Oh, God!, the comedy Vegas Vacation, Soldier, the new Nancy Drew, Barry Levinson’s Diner. Mr. Weintraub passed away from a heart attack on Monday, July 6th at the age of 77 at his home in Palm Springs, reported via Deadline.
