Wim Wenders: Portraits Along the Road

Kicking off later this month is a retrospective screening series of a filmmaker that more people should know about. His name is Wim Wenders, one of the major figures in New German Cinema, who has been making films for over 40 years. His most recent work includes the drama Every Thing Will Be Fine (which I saw in Berlin), his photographer documentary The Salt of the Earth (which I adore), and the dancer documentary Pina, which was filmed in 3D. The retrospective spans his entire career and will include screenings in 15 cities showing restored 4K or 2K versions of his early work, including Paris, Texas, Tokyo-Ga, American Friend, Wings of Desire and of course The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick. Catch a short trailer below. ›››

Check Out Mondo's New 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Art on Sale Next Week

    Mondo Mad Max Fury Road

“I live, I die. I LIVE AGAIN!” Time to check your bank account balance. Mondo has announced a timed sale next week, meaning it will be very easy to get your hands on any of these prints if you really want one. The new prints are for Mad Max: Fury Road, licensed officially with Warner Bros, made by two different prominent veteran Mondo artists – Ken Taylor and Mike Mitchell. Mitchell’s set features a face-to-face dyptich showing the new Max Rockatansky, played by Tom Hardy, with this face mask on – looking across at the brutal Immortan Joe, played by Hugh Keays-Byrne. The other print shows the war party chasing down Max on the front of the car in the beginning, with a beautiful blue sky in the background. I might end up actually ordering one of these myself, we’ll see. Take a look at both prints below – on sale on August 11th. ›››

Hasraf 'HaZ' Dulull to Direct 'Origin Unknown' Robot on Mars Feature

    Origin Unknown

“Shine light where there is darkness.” Another filmmaker we’ve posted many shorts from previously on this site has made the leap into feature filmmaking, and is set to direct his first movie called Origin Unknown. ScreenDaily made the announcement this week, reporting that work is already underway on producers Parkgate Entertainment and IAM Entertainment’s “UK sci-fi thriller” being directed by Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull. HaZ is the name behind the shorts Sync, Project Kronos and I.R.I.S., and he’s also worked as a VFX supervisor on a number of other projects. The script is being written by Gary Hall, from a story by Dulull. ›››

Watch: New Extended TV Spot for Danny Boyle's 'Steve Jobs' Movie

    Steve Jobs Extended TV Spot

“What you make isn’t supposed to be the best part of you! You’re a father…” Universal has debuted an extended 60-second TV spot for Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs movie, starring Michael Fassbender as the late technology innovator Steve Jobs. We’ve already seen two trailers for this already, but this new TV spot throws in some extra footage, including that line quoted at the start about how he’s supposed to be a father (maybe they’re focusing on that part of the story in the marketing more?). The cast includes Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Katherine Waterston, Jeff Daniels, and Michael Stuhlbarg. This looks outstanding. ›››

'Fathers & Daughters' Trailer with Russell Crowe & Amanda Seyfried

    Fathers & Daughters

“I was so afraid of you leaving me!” The first Japanese trailer (in English) for Gabriele Muccino’s Fathers & Daughters has arrived. The film stars Russell Crowe as the father, with Amanda Seyfried as his daughter (all grown up). The cast includes Aaron Paul, Diane Kruger, Jane Fonda, Octavia Spencer and many others. The story spans two settings across 30 years – the first in the 1980s when Crowe struggles to try and raise his young daughter as a single father; and also the modern day where that same daughter, now all grown up, struggles to connect with others just as well. It seems to be a very bold, emotional look at the long-term effects of tragedy. This got my attention, though I already like Crowe’s side of the story more. ›››

New Line Cinema Rebooting 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' Series Again

    A Nightmare on Elm Street

One, two, another reboot coming for you. Three, four, the more franchise movies the better. Five, six, you get the point. Over at the Tracking Board, they’re reporting that New Line Cinema is ready to try again with A Nightmare on Elm Street. Just a few years ago we followed very closely the most recent remake that came out in 2010, directed by Samuel Bayer starring Jackie Earle Haley as the new Freddy. And, once again, since that remake didn’t end up doing so well they’re simply going back to the drawing board and restarting because of course it’s a successful name-brand horror franchise so they can restart and it still has a fanbase. ›››
