As hyped as we all are, don’t forget that no one knows (yet) if it will actually be any good. There’s some extremely high expectations and most people still think of the prequels and how mediocre they were, worried about how this will turn out. This one is made by Miguel Branco who has been doing this for the last three years. I’ve always enjoyed his looks back, because he takes time to focus on some of his favorite movies throughout, including (for 2015) Me and Earl and the Dying Girl directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. “He’s got an incredibly complicated emotional structure going on.” Marvel has released a very short, but nonetheless fascinating featurette on the story of Doctor Strange. Production is now underway in London on Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme. This featurette is less than 60-seconds and only includes discussions about the characters and some glimpses at concept art, but no real footage is available yet. Every new year brings us another Sundance Film Festival and with 45 days left until Sundance 2016 kicks off on January 21st, it’s time to find out what will be playing up in snowy Park City this January. Yesterday, Sundance revealed the first 66 films playing in-competition at the festival. Today, they reveal the remaining features and documentaries playing in the Premieres category and Spotlight category. “I’ve been running my whole life. They come to my house, I’m gunna protect it.” Lionsgate UK has debuted a new trailer for the western Jane Got a Gun, starring Natalie Portman as woman who must defend her home when her husband returns home shot to death. We featured the first trailer for this a few months back, and this one follows up with quite a bit of impressive footage. Jane Got a Gun is the film that was plagued with production problems, including actors and the director walking off of set, before it somehow was finished. Now they’re packaging it and presenting it and it doesn’t look so bad, but maybe that’s just the editing here. Joel Edgerton, Rodrigo Santoro, Noah Emmerich & Boyd Holbrook also star. Enjoy. ›››

Seriously – I love this documentary because it really gets deep down to the issues plaguing this country and how they can be solved, if only we would open our minds and work together. Moore travels to countries around Europe in this, exploring the various ways that they’ve solved some of the problems we can’t seem to solve, showing just how behind America really is. Also – screw the MPAA for giving this the R rating, it totally is the doc the “powers that be” don’t want you to see. ›››

The eight who get stuck in a blizzard at Minnie’s Haberdashery are: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern and Demian Bichir. This featurette explores the dynamics and relationships of the cast, to compliment the technical featurette about 70mm from before. “What happens to these characters we know and love – it’s a world I want to get back to immediately.” Lucasfilm has unveiled another new featurette for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, premiered at Brazil Comic-Con, showing some never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage. Not that we need to see any more footage to be sold at this point, but who cares, the more the merrier especially if it includes a look at the full-size Millennium Falcon set piece. Director J.J. Abrams shows up in this often, as does Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fischer and a few other special guests. Only two more weeks left. ›››

Hooray! A big congratulations to Ryan Coogler. This is outstanding news. Multiple outlets are reporting with confirmation that Ryan Coogler, director of Creed and Fruitvale Station, is in talks to direct Marvel Studio’s Black Panther movie. The superhero will be introduced in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie, and he can be seen in full costume in that trailer. From there he will get his own solo spin-off movie (likely the origin story) and Coogler is going to be directing. I’m definitely down for that. Chadwick Boseman stars as T’Challa, the rest of the cast has yet to be confirmed. We’ll be watching for any updates. ›››
