“I’m not going to be what I’ve turned into anymore…” IFC Films has debuted an impressive official trailer for Tim Blake Nelson’s drama Anesthesia, set in New York City telling an ensemble story of how a tragedy connects a number of people involved around the city. Kristen Stewart stars, with Sam Waterston as the professor who is attacked; plus Glenn Close, Gretchen Mol, Tim Blake Nelson, Corey Stoll and Michael K. Williams in supporting roles. This is a very lovely trailer that makes this film look uplifting and inspiring, in many little ways following some interesting stories. It seems like there is sadness but also so many good lessons to learn from everything that is being said. Worth taking a look at this ensemble film. ›››

Attention Studio Ghibli fans! The IFC Center in New York City is hosting yet another round of Studio Ghibli retrospective screenings through December. In honor of the upcoming re-release of Studio Ghibli’s 1991 film Only Yesterday, directed by Isao Takahata, GKids is helping them show six of the best Ghibli films on the big screen. Only Yesterday will be re-opening with an English language re-release in theaters this January/February. Leading up to that release, the IFC Center will show the films Castle in the Sky, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaä, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. If you’re a Studio Ghibli / Miyazaki fan like I am, every opportunity to see these films on the big screen is worth considering. ›››

I’ve got a good feeling about this one. We have yet to see a trailer, though hopefully there may be one soon enough. Focus Features is releasing Laika’s next new stop-motion animated feature Kubo and the Two Strings next August, and they’ve premiered this eye-catching official poster. The film is described as a “gripping yarn woven from Japanese folktales and mythology, with lost civilizations, mystical origami, noble heroes, star-crossed lovers, and blood-curdling monsters.” It features the voices of Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Matthew McConaughey, Ralph Fiennes, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, George Takei, with Art Parkinson as Kubo. This is some beautiful art that shows quite a bit of promise, and I’m looking forward to seeing more. ›››

The list of nominations for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards (of 2016), the yearly precursor to the Academy Awards, have just been announced today – you can find all the film nominees below. The infamous Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees this morning from The Beverly Hilton. The selection this year is solid, but as always full of some wacky picks, and a few snubs. The top nominees are Todd Haynes’ Carol, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s The Revenant, and Jay Roach’s Trumbo, picking up a few surprise noms same as the SAG Awards. Another interesting year of picks but not surprising for the HFPA. ›››

“Just four brothers who hate bullies, and love this city.” Paramount has debuted the first full trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, the sequel to the revival of the live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. This time the Turtles, and Shredder, end up going toe-to-toe with some nasty new villains – Bebop and Rocksteady – and they actually become Rhino-men by the end. The cast includes the folks from the first one plus the Turtles: Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Stephen Amell and others. This looks just as cheesy and ridiculous, so if that didn’t do it for you the first time, this won’t be different. Though they always make it look like it will be so much fun. ›››

“Will you stop shooting everything!” Sony has unveiled a full-length trailer for The Brothers Grimsby, following two teasers for this comedy about two brothers. Sacha Baron Cohen and Mark Strong co-star as the Brothers Grimsby. Strong plays a super spy who has to team up with his “football hooligan” brother Norman. The full cast includes Penélope Cruz, Isla Fisher, Rebel Wilson, Scott Adkins. This finally sets up some of the plot – Cohen screws up one of Strong’s missions, and they both have to go on the run with everyone chasing after them. This looks pretty damn good, I’m a big Sacha Baron Cohen fan and I’m looking forward to seeing him go all out wacky in this. Another fun spy comedy to join Kingsmen and Spy. ›››

No man ever started with less…” Warner Bros has debuted the first official trailer for The Legend of Tarzan, the new David Yates movie after the director finished the Harry Potter series. This should be a must watch – it rather surprisingly looks fantastic, much more dark and thrilling and yet still exciting in a very unique way. I’ll be damned, I guess I now have to say I’m looking forward to seeing this. Alexander Skarsgård stars as Tarzan, Margot Robbie as Jane, along with a great cast: Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Casper Crump, John Hurt, and Djimon Hounsou. We also posted some first look photos, but there’s a big difference between those and this trailer. ›››

Run! Godzilla is back, again!! In addition to everything going on with Godzilla in Hollywood, Japan is currently working on their own new Godzilla movie titled Godzilla: Resurgence, co-directed by Hideaki Anno & Shinji Higuchi, who were announced earlier this year. An early teaser has apparently hit the web via our friends at The Film Stage, and it shows just a tiny glimpse of found footage of people running and screaming, similar to Cloverfield. At the end there isn’t any shot of the big guy yet, but there is a sound of his roar and a cut to the title. I wish there was more but at least we have a very interesting poster. See below. ›››

More Tarzan? Yes indeed. While Guillermo del Toro never moved forward with his version of Tarzan, former Harry Potter director David Yates has been working on The Legend of Tarzan for Warner Bros. The studio has debuted two first look photos and a poster for the new Tarzan starring Alexander Skarsgård as the jungle boy. He’s now living in London and is called back to the jungle, where they “haven’t been [in] an awfully long time”. Skarsgård explains to USA Today that “it’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast… This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.” Very interesting. ›››

Never look behind the curtain.” Disney has debuted the first official teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s new movie, an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG. We’ve been hearing details about this for the past few years, as it’s Spielbergs next movie following this year’s Bridge of Spies. Ruby Barnhill plays a young girl named Sophie who meets a Big Friendly Giant that comes out at night. This is just an early teaser meaning we don’t get to see much beyond the first scenes of the movie, but it certainly looks like a Spielberg movie again. The full cast includes Rebecca Hall, Mark Rylance, Bill Hader, and Jemaine Clement, none of whom are seen this yet. But I am definitely interested. Take a look below! ›››
