Watch: New Trailer for Bowie's 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' Re-Release

The Man Who Fell to Earth Trailer

“If I were you, I’d be secretive…” Studiocanal UK has debuted a brand new trailer for the upcoming 40th anniversary re-release of Nicolas Roeg’s sci-fi film The Man Who Fell to Earth, starring the late David Bowie as an alien who lands on Earth in hopes of getting water for his dying planet. He starts a technology company to get the billions of dollars he needs to build a return spacecraft, but does not count on the greed and ruthlessness of business here on Earth. The film also stars Candy Clark as Mary-Lou, plus Rip Torn, Buck Henry and Bernie Casey. This is one of this quirky yet totally unique kind of sci-fi cult classics that if you haven’t seen yet, now’s the perfect time to catch up with it. The mesmerizing score by John Phillips & Stomu Yamashta is also getting released in full (on vinyl, too!) for those interested in grabbing it. Enjoy. ›››

  • Cynthia Nixon in First Trailer for Terence Davies' Film 'A Quiet Passion'

Cynthia Nixon in First Trailer for Terence Davies' Film 'A Quiet Passion'

    A Quiet Passion Trailer

“You are alone in your rebellion, Ms. Dickinson.” Get ready to be enthralled by the words and emotions of Emily Dickinson. A festival trailer has debuted for the film A Quiet Passion, from director Terence Davis (whose other film Sunset Song was just released in theaters this year). Cynthia Nixon stars as the legendary poet Emily Dickinson in this “luminous biopic”. Also starring Jennifer Ehle, Keith Carradine, Duncan Duff, Jodhi May, Joanna Bacon and Catherine Bailey. These kind of intense period pieces aren’t usually my thing, and I’m not that curious about this. However, the music they used for this trailer definitely got my attention. It’s the track “Stars Wait For Us” by Plu-Ton and it seems odd, but totally works. ›››

See the Power of Friendship in 'Same Kind of Different as Me' Trailer

Same Kind of Different as Me Trailer

“You’re not a bad man, and I’m glad we’re friends.” Paramount has debuted the trailer for a drama called Same Kind of Different as Me, adapted from the memoirs of Denver Moore, Ron Hall & Lynn Vincent, about the lives of three people bound together by fate and friendship. The film stars Renée Zellweger in her first major role (aside from Bridget Jones’s Baby) in years, Greg Kinnear, and Djimon Hounsou; along with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt, Ty Parker and others. This looks like an emotional, heartfelt story of friends and family, but some of it looks pretty bland and melodramatic. They’re also dumping this during the Oscar season meaning it’s not that great, but at least Djimon Hounsou looks exceptional. Give it a watch. ›››

  • Alison Pill & Gael García Bernal in Comic Book Mashup 'Zoom' Trailer

Alison Pill & Gael García Bernal in Comic Book Mashup 'Zoom' Trailer

    Zoom Trailer

“What is this all about?!” Screen Media Films has debuted a trailer for the indie comedy Zoom, about a comic book artist played by the talented Alison Pill (seen in Milk, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Midnight in Paris, Goon, Snowpiercer, Hail Caesar!, and “The Newsroom”). This is a funky mashup because it combines the rather crazy live-action story with an animated (or perhaps rotoscoped?) comic book story, which is all of her frustrations come to life after they’ve been illustrated on paper. Gael García Bernal plays the primary, suave comic book character, and the rest of the cast includes Tyler Labine, Jason Priestley, Mariana Ximenes, Don McKellar and Michael Eklund. This actually looks fun in a quirky way, and I like the way they mix the animated comics with the real world story. Might be worth watching when it’s out. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Andrea Arnold's 'American Honey' Adds Springsteen

Second Trailer for Andrea Arnold's 'American Honey' Adds Springsteen

    American Honey Trailer

A24 has unveiled the second official trailer for Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year to some rave reviews. The film stars newcomer Sasha Lane as a teenager who joins a traveling magazine sales crew, and falls for Shia LaBeouf while trying to navigate a life of partying and passion and jealousy. Also starring McCaul Lombardi, Arielle Holmes, Crystal Ice and Riley Keough. This trailer really plays up a few quotes from our friend Ryland Aldrich’s glowing review of the film, calling it the kind of outstanding work that we only see once in a generation, capturing the fleeting feeling of freedom and the tireless pursuit of the American dream. They also toss in Bruce Springsteen’s “Dream Baby Dream” to help set the mood for this. I’m a big fan of the film, and I hope people check it out. ›››

  • Watch: Impressive Trailer for Brazilian Sci-Fi Short Film 'Lunatique'

Watch: Impressive Trailer for Brazilian Sci-Fi Short Film 'Lunatique'

    Lunatique Trailer

This looks like a cool little sci-fi short worth waiting for. There’s a trailer going around for a Brazilian sci-fi / post-apocalyptic short film called Lunatique, and it’s impressive for only 60 seconds. The short is directed by cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Gabriel Kalim Mucci, and it’s set in a gritty, desolate, ash-covered world. The story is about one lonely woman struggling to survive in this world, but she looks quite badass, kind of almost like Ripley from Aliens. This has some excellent production design and solid VFX work, I’m anxious to see more from it, hopefully sooner than later. We’ll be watching for the unveiling of the full short. ›››

  • New Trailer for Theatrical Re-Release of Krzysztof Kieslowski's 'Dekalog'

New Trailer for Theatrical Re-Release of Krzysztof Kieslowski's 'Dekalog'

    Dekalog Trailer

“It’s wrong to ask for everything at once.” Janus Films has debuted a trailer for the upcoming theatrical re-release of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s acclaimed series Dekalog, or Decalogue. It’s best to refer to the official description to explain this one: “Originally made for Polish television, Dekalog focuses on the residents of a housing complex in late-Communist Poland, whose lives become subtly intertwined as they face emotional dilemmas that are at once deeply personal and universally human. Its ten hour-long films, drawing from the Ten Commandments for thematic inspiration and an overarching structure, grapple deftly with complex moral and existential questions concerning life, death, love, hate, truth, and the passage of time.” Janus is putting out a 4K version of the film series in theaters this fall in the US, for those interested in watching it. ›››

Watch This: Stuntman 'Leap of Faith' Featurette for 'Assassin's Creed'

    Assassin's Creed Leap of Faith

Fox has released an impressive behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie, which opens in theaters in December. Dubbed the “Leap of Faith”, the video focuses on stuntman Damien Walters’ free fall jump – which was filmed on camera. Leaping from a height of 125 feet, it’s one of the highest stuntman free falls in over 35 years. Walters is the stunt double for Michael Fassbender in the film, playing Aguilar, a Master Assassin sent back in time to unlock the secrets of his ancestry. You’ve seen the leap they filmed in the trailer – jumping off of the top of one of the buildings in ancient Florence. And in this featurette you can see them setting up and actually pulling off the stunt, and it’s kind of awesome. I like that they’re sharing this now, before release, not just as a Special Feature on the DVD next year. Take a look. ›››

Must Watch: Full Trailer for Denis Villeneuve's New Sci-Fi Film 'Arrival'

    Arrival Sci-Fi Film

“Now that’s a proper introduction.” They’re here. Paramount has unveiled the full-length official trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s new sci-fi film Arrival, after the first teaser debuted one week ago. This time we get a much more detailed look at the story, involving alien spacecraft that land on Earth and a small team of experts assigned to contact them. Amy Adams plays a linguistics expert who is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. The full cast includes Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg, Tzi Ma, Mark O’Brien and many others. This trailer reveals way more than the teaser, so watch out if you want to go in fresh. At this point I’m so ready to see this, don’t show me anything else from it – a thinking person’s sci-fi from Villeneuve is exactly what I’m waiting for. Enjoy. ›››
