  • Apex Legends’ Developer Apologizes for Exchange of Insults with Community Members

A war of words broke out between Respawn Entertainment and some Apex Legends players in the game’s subreddit over the weekend, following a decision to rollback some controversial microtransactions in Apex Legends’ Iron Crown event. Now, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella is apologizing to any fans who may have been offended during the exchange.

“Some of our folks crossed a line with their comments, and that’s now how we want Respawn to be represented,” Zampella wrote in a statement published on his personal Twitter account. “I apologize to any of our fans that were offended.”

  • Rebel Galaxy Outlaw Review

In spacefaring sci-fi shows and movies – eg Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica – there are two very different kinds of space combat: the slug-fests where battleships duke it out with massive broadsides, and the fast, twitchy dogfighting of fighters buzzing around them. 2015’s Rebel Galaxy is an excellent RPG built around the former, and now its prequel spin-off, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, is an action game that specializes in the latter. It’s a flashy, modern revival of the gameplay style of classics like Wing Commander: Privateer and Freelancer, and it even all but eliminates the most annoying part of dogfighting with a creative and entirely optional piloting assist. The campaign missions are stretched over an open region of space that’s probably two sizes too large, but there’s more than enough going on to make Rebel Galaxy Outlaw a stellar single-player game.

  • Splinter Cell Might Come Back in an Unexpected Way

Despite not having a mainline game in some time, Ubisoft hasn’t forgotten about Splinter Cell. Even Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot still talks about a possible return for Sam Fisher, but it might not be on a traditional video game platform.

Speaking with Chinese video game publication, Gamer Sky, Guillemot spoke briefly about a possible new Splinter Cell game. However, he stressed that any new Splinter Cell title from Ubisoft could be in the form of an experiment on different devices.

“On Splinter Cell there will be some new type of experiences, but more on different devices,” Guillemot said in a video interview. “So, we are working a lot on the brand today to come back at one point.”

  • How to Get Started With Madden 20’s Face of the Franchise

Face of the Franchise (also known as QB1) is Madden NFL 20’s new story mode. Combining elements of Longshot and Superstar, previous story modes in the series, Face of the Franchise is a 90-minute guided narrative experience that takes your character through his college career and to the NFL.

How Face of the Franchise is Similar to Previous Madden Story Modes

Some of the mechanics in Face of the Franchise will look familiar to those who have played Longshot in Madden NFL 18 and 19. Longshot served as Madden’s story mode as you followed a couple high school teammates, a quarterback and a wide receiver, as they made their way through college and to the NFL. Longshot followed the duo’s ups and downs as they both struggled to get on (and stay on) NFL rosters.

  • How Satoru Iwata Saved Earthbound from Development Hell

To this day, Earthbound is a beloved classic that belongs in any “Best RPGs of all time” list – but without help from the late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, it might have never been finished.

Iwata-san, a book recently published in Japan by Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi’s company Hobonichi, tells the story of Satoru Iwata’s life, mostly through his own words. While he passed away on July 11 in 2015, the book is a rearrangement of interviews with Iwata that were published on Itoi’s website Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shimbun. The book also includes new interviews with Shigeru Miyamoto and Shigesato Itoi on how they remember Iwata.
