  • What GTA 6 Can Learn From Red Dead 2

After roughly 80 hours, I finally rolled credits on Red Dead Redemption 2, and even with lots still left to do in that world, it’s hard not to look to the future. Rockstar has done some amazing things in their rendition of the Old West, and despite some of its faults, they’ve set a new bar for themselves as a studio. From the gorgeous environments to the world’s interactivity, there are plenty of new ideas and mechanics that would be great additions to the studio’s flagship franchise — but there are few smaller lessons that we think Red Dead’s older sibling could benefit from, too. Here are 8 things that GTA 6 can learn from Red Dead 2.

  • Fallout 76 B.E.T.A. Impressions

After 20 hours spent in the West-Virginian wasteland of Fallout 76 via the now-concluded B.E.T.A. (playing on Xbox One X, if you’re curious), I’ve been left with an overarching sense of curiosity. Mainly, I’m curious why Fallout 76 exists.

That’s not meant to be a criticism. With so many elements working together and against one another, I wonder why this is the next Fallout game that we’re playing, as opposed to one that leans harder into the traditional story-driven single-player experience or a full-fledged multiplayer survival game set in the Fallout universe. As it stands now, Fallout 76 is neither of those things – it’s stuck in some strange Appalachian limbo between two points.

  • Destiny 2 Isn't Performing as Well as Activision Would Like

Though player engagement is reportedly strong, it appears Destiny 2 isn’t performing as well as its publisher Activision would like.

In a third quarter 2018 financial results conference call, the publisher claimed Destiny 2 “Did not achieve our commercial expectations,” adding “there is still work to do to fully reengage the core Destiny fanbase.”

“We have not yet seen the full core reengage in Destiny, which has led to the underperformance against our expectations to date,” said Activision COO Coddy Johnson. “Some players we think are still in ‘wait and see’ mode. When you’re in, you’re deeply engaged, and if you’re not, we’re hoping now’s the time. We’re working to bring players back in and win them back.”

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Everywhere…Even on South Park

Never ones to shy away from a hot pop culture moment, the writers of South Park made Red Dead Redemption 2 the barrel end of the joke on this week’s episode, titled, “Time to Get Cereal.”

The episode is notable not just for Red Dead 2’s inclusion, but also the return of Al Gore (who’s become a bowler in the South Park universe since losing the 2000 presidential election) and ManBearPig, the exactly-what-it-sounds-like demon that Gore warned South Park about back in Season 10. Still, it was the Red Dead Redemption 2 subplot that will likely give gamers the biggest laughs, as Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and the South Park writing team managed to not only make numerous references to Arthur Morgan’s Old West adventure, but they did so in such an accurate way as to make the jokes even funnier. To wit:
