  • March's Xbox One Free Games With Gold Revealed

With March drawing near, Microsoft has announced the lineup of games that Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download for free next month. There’s the usual total of four new games being introduced across Xbox One and Xbox 360, with an especially good one up for grabs on the newer console.

On Xbox One, the month starts out with Trials of the Blood Dragon, a more action-oriented take on the Trials series that’s somewhat in the vein of Far Cry 3‘s Blood Dragon spin-off. It will be available for free for the entire month. From March 16 through April 15, Superhot will be free. The excellent shooter sports a distinct visual style and an even more novel concept, as time (mostly) freezes when you stop moving, allowing you to set up some Matrix-style bullet-dodging sequences.

Xbox 360 owners also get two games to download in March. During the first half of the month, it’s Brave: The Video Game, which is based on Disney’s film of the same name and was just added to the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility list. It’s then followed in the second half by Quantum Conundrum, the puzzle-based first-person game from Airtight Games and Kim Swift, one of the key developers behind Portal and Left 4 Dead. As always, both Xbox 360 games are playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

In the meantime, it’s not too late to grab some of February’s free Games With Gold titles. One of the Xbox One games, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India, will also remain free for the first half of March. Claiming any of these games allows you to continue playing them for as long as you’re an Xbox Live Gold subscriber.

  • How Destiny 2's Exotics Are Changing In An Upcoming Update

Bungie has explained its approach to changing Destiny 2‘s Exotics, offering insight into its goals and what it hopes to achieve in a game update planned for March. In the latest Bungie Weekly Update senior designer Jon Weisnewski said the gameplay tuning pass on Exotic gear is focused on “adding and/or increasing player Power spikes,” and although all items are being considered, special attention is being paid to low-usage items. The goal, he says, is to “lean into an item’s established gameplay and push it harder” while avoiding “catch-all improvements that dilute item identity.”

To show what this means Weisnewski used the Graviton Lance as an example, explaining that the feedback has been that it looks cool, but isn’t viable for getting kills in player-versus-player scenarios. Bungie is remedying this by reducing the recoil of the first of the weapon’s burst shots. On top of that, it’s introducing some aim assist to control recoil and changing it from three shot burst to two shot.

“This still plays into the fantasy of a low-damage gravity-neutralizing round forming a projectile tunnel for the last bullet,” he said. “It also allows us to ensure the damage per burst is at a competitive level for PVP engagements. In fact, it gives Graviton a slight mathematical edge against other pulse rifles.”

Weisnewski also said that, as a result of feedback, the way an enemy’s body now behaves after being hit with a Graviton Lance has changed. “We made it so that rather than violently flying backwards and likely out of range of a potential splash damage opportunity, the defeated opponent floats back and up,” he explained. “Then we made the explosion bigger, increased the damage, and added some void field projectiles that seek out any remaining targets.”

According to Weisnewski, “this is one of the more exaggerated examples to help describe how we’re looking at our goals and applying them to the gear.” He went on to name weapons that aren’t getting an update: Merciless, Telesto, Wardcliff Coil, MIDA Multi Tool, Colony, Legend of Acrius, and Vigilance Wing. The team decided not to change these as some don’t require it, while the others will benefit from other tuning changes included in update 1.1.4.

“We’ll be touching a lot of powerful gear with this update and to truly understand the impact for players requires a lot of design iteration and test time,” Weisnewski said. “It isn’t enough to crank up the damage and run one strike or Crucible match with a gun and helmet and move on. Dialing in the right amount of power, testing in all activities with all types of load outs, finding the bugs, fixing the bugs, updating the perk description text to reflect new behaviour, and then handing that off to localization for translation–it’s a ton of work, but we’re up to it. We sincerely appreciate your patience. I believe it will be worth the wait.”

As previously detailed in the Destiny 2 roadmap, the changes are expected to go into effect on March 27 when the Sandbox & Crucible update will be launched as part of patch 1.1.4.

Destiny 2’s Crimson Days event is now live, introducing a special 2v2 Crucible playlist. By taking part in the event you’ll be working toward unlocking the real highlight of the new content: new gear. There’s lots of new goodies for Destiny 2 players on PC, PS4, and Xbox One to acquire, but only for a limited time. You can take a look at the new items, rewards, and gear in Destiny 2 Crimson Days update here.

Crimson Days is now live on all platforms, and it runs until the weekly reset on February 20. Even if you don’t plan on playing much, you can get a free Crimson Engram just by logging in and speaking with Tess at The Tower.

  • DC's Shazam Movie: First On-Set Image Reveals The Classic Costume

DC's Shazam Movie: First On-Set Image Reveals The Classic Costume

There are two DC movies currently set for release in 2019–Shazam and Wonder Woman 2. The first of these is currently in production, and the first on set image of Shazam himself has now been revealed. The image was posted on Reddit and it shows star Zachary Levi wearing the character’s classic costume. The set dressing suggests that the scene in question is set at Christmas–you can check it out here.

We might not long have to wait until we see the first official image of the character however. Last week director David F. Sandberg predicted that an on-set image might leak from the shoot, and told fans on Reddit, “if someone had managed to snap a shot of the suit last week when we were shooting outside they would have released an official pic right away. Since we got away with it they want to do more of an official thing. And it’s right around the corner.”

Shazam also stars Asher Angel as the character’s young alter ego Billy Batson, and Mark Strong as the evil Doctor Sivana. It hits theaters on April 5, 2019. Earlier this month, a synopsis was released, which confirmed Sandberg’s earlier hints that the movie will have a more lighthearted tone than many of DC’s movies.

The synopsis reads: “We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s case, by shouting out one word–SHAZAM!–this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero Shazam, courtesy of an ancient wizard.

“Still a kid at heart–inside a ripped, godlike body–Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Doctor Thaddeus Sivana.”

Shazam first appeared in 1939, when he was known by the name Captain Marvel. The character was bought by DC in 1971, when he was renamed, due to Marvel’s ownership of the name Captain Marvel. A live action Shazam TV show was broadcast in the mid-’70s, while an animated show followed in 1981.

  • Mark Hamill Might Have Just Landed Himself A Role in Guardians Of The Galaxy 3

Marvel and Star Wars are such huge franchises that it’s inevitable that they share some of the same actors. Samuel L. Jackson and Andy Serkis have had notable roles in both series, and they might soon be joined by Luke Skywalker himself–Mark Hamill. Hamill was drawn into a conversation on Twitter with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn about potentially appearing in the next film in Marvel’s sci-fi series.

It all started with a tweet from a fan @ianfee, who asked Gunn if he would cast Hamill in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn replied by commenting that Hamill lived nearby in Malibu, and he could “just come over and talk about it over a cup of coffee.”

At this point Hamill himself entered the conversation and told Gunn that “as a good neighbor and an unemployed actor” he would love to pop over for a coffee and a chat. The exchange ended with Gunn saying “let’s do it” and Hamill asking him to DM him for his contact details if he was “serious and a good neighbor.”

I would be happy to do so, both as a good neighbor & an unemployed actor.
    All the best, mh

    — Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) February 26, 2018

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters in 2020. Gunn has confirmed that this will be his final movie in the series, and last year explained that he wanted to ensure that Vol. 3 ended the trilogy properly. “There is a history in Hollywood of haphazard endings to trilogies, and I didn’t want to become a part of that dishonorable tradition of pretending the third one doesn’t exist,” he said.

“My love for [the characters] goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine. I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit.”

  • Star Wars And Marvel Lands Are Part Of $2.5 Billion Disneyland Expansion

With Disney owning some of the biggest franchises in cinema, it was inevitable that the company would want to incorporate them into its theme park business. Two massive Star Wars parks have been under construction in the US for several years, and it has now been announced that Disneyland Paris will undergo a $2.5 billion expansion to incorporate areas based on Star Wars, Marvel, and the animated hit Frozen.

The plans were revealed by Disney boss Bob Iger, following a meeting in Paris with French president Emmanuel Macron. In a statement, Iger said: “We’re very excited about the future of Disneyland Paris and continue to invest in its long-term success. The resort is already the leading tourist destination in Europe, and the transformative expansion we announced today will add even more of our beloved characters and unparalleled storytelling to create new lands, attractions and entertainment that further elevate the guest experience and drive new opportunities for tourism in this dynamic region.”

The Star Wars, Marvel, and Frozen areas will be rolled out in stages, starting in 2021. While the company’s specific plans are unknown, Disneyland Paris will start to introduce a Marvel element from this summer with characters appearing at the park and a Marvel-themed hotel opening in 2020. In addition, Iger hinted earlier this week that Black Panther could play a part in the company’s future theme park plans.

The two Star Wars lands in Florida and California are set to open in 2019. Last summer, a scale model of the park design was revealed at the company’s annual D23 convention. According to the company, “both Star Wars-inspired lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before Wild Space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.” Iger previously explained that they would be “largest single-themed land expansions ever,” covering 14 acres of land.

  • Here's A Picture Of George R.R. Martin At A Grateful Dead Show In Mexico

George R.R. Martin, the wildly successful author of A Song of Ice and Fire, is still writing the sixth entry in the series, The Winds of Winter. But that’s not all that’s keeping him busy.

The novelist apparently attended a recent multi-day Dead and Company concert in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico earlier this month. Here’s a picture of Martin and ESPN Radio Miami host Stugotz at the “Playing in the Sand” concert, as shared by ESPN’s Pablo S. Torre:

I took a stroll with @Stugotz790 and then he showed me the picture of him and George RR Martin at a Dead show in Mexico pic.twitter.com/ja5NTpwPh8

    — Pablo S. Torre (@PabloTorre) February 27, 2018

In 2014, Martin revealed that he and his wife are big fans of Grateful Dead. “I’m certainly a fan of the Grateful Dead. I’ve attended Grateful Dead concerts and my wife Paris is perhaps even more of a fan… and I do have Grateful Dead lyrics always coming around and rattling around in my head,” he said at the time in an interview with 92Y.

Dead and Company is the new version of Grateful Dead whose lineup includes classic Grateful Dead musicians including Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, along with John Mayer and others.

HBO adapted A Song of Ice and Fire into the award-winning and highly rated show Game of Thrones. The series continues in 2019 with its eighth and final season, though HBO is producing multiple spinoffs that could follow later.

As for the book series, Martin said last year that The Winds of Winter could be released in 2018, though no official announcements have come as of yet.

  • Avengers: Infinity War Art Teases New Look Iron Man And Black Widow

Avengers: Infinity War Art Teases New Look Iron Man And Black Widow

The first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War delivered plenty of action, plus an appearance from pretty much every hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. A few more pieces of information have emerged this week, including new looks for both Iron Man and Black Widow.

A promotional image posted on Reddit reveals that Tony Stark will be sporting two new additions to his Iron Man suit–a bionic arm and a pair of wings. As Digital Spy points out, a fleeting shot in the recent Super Bowl TV spot for the movie suggests that Tony is missing an arm. We obviously don’t know how he loses it, but it looks like he might be getting a bionic upgrade. As for the wings–Stark has never needed them to fly before, but hey, they look pretty cool.

Black Widow’s change is less dramatic, but her new costume is partly green, which at the very least ties her in visually to her good pal the Hulk. Check the image out below:

In addition, a piece of Infinity War merchandise has revealed one of the movie’s new villains. A promotional mug shows Thanos alongside his evil Black Order, plus a mysterious new bad guy. While we don’t know who it is exactly, Heroic Hollywood has suggested that it could be Warbringer, a Chitauri warlord who first appeared in a 2015 issue of Marvel’s Nova comic.

All will be revealed when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4. It is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who helmed the last two Captain America movies, and will follow it up with next year’s currently untitled Avengers 4.

In related news, Captain American star Chris Evans last week seemed to confirm that the rumored Black Widow movie is in development at Marvel. Evans was asked about the success of Black Panther, and said, “There’s nothing they can’t do, man,” he said. “I’m sure it’s going to have the exact same effect when Captain Marvel comes out, and then the Black Widow movie comes out. Marvel just has the winning recipe.”

  • Spider-Man Spin-off Silver and Black Delayed, Director Confirms

Venom is the first of Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spin-offs, and it hits theaters in October. The second movie is set to be Silver and Black, focusing on the characters of Silver Sable and The Black Cat. Although it was originally scheduled for February 2019 release, the movie has now been delayed.

The news first emerged via The Hashtag Show, which stated that Silver and Black had been “delayed indefinitely.” Given it was originally set to begin production next month and no casting announcements have been made, this isn’t surprising. Confirmation has now come from director Gina Prince-Bythewood‏, who replied to The Hashtag Show’s tweet by explaining that the script was still being worked on:

Still working on the script. All about the script.

    — Gina Prince-Bythewood (@GPBmadeit) February 24, 2018

Silver and Black was first announced in March 2017. The movie has already been through several writers; Lindsey Beer (Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Chaos Walking) are currently attached, while Thor: Ragnarok writer Chris Yost and Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy have both worked on previous drafts.

Although Sony made a deal with Disney in 2015 to allow Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the former studio still retains the overall movie rights to characters from the webslinger’s comic books. Another Spidey character that also has a movie in development is Morbius: The Living Vampire.

The first trailer for Venom was revealed earlier this month. It stars Tom Hardy as a man who is taken over by the alien symbiote of the title. It also stars Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed and releases on October 4, 2018.

  • The Weinstein Company To File For Bankrupcy After Sale Talks Collapse

The Weinstein company is to file for bankruptcy. The embattled production company was left reeling following the accusations of sexual harassment and abuse levelled at co-chairman Harvey Weinstein last year. It has been seeking a purchaser since, but the most recent talks have collapsed.

The company’s board of directors have now issued a statement following the failure of negotiations with an investor group. “While we recognize that this is an extremely unfortunate outcome for our employees, our creditors and any victims, the board has no choice but to pursue the only viable option to maximize the company’s remaining value: an orderly bankruptcy process,” the statement reads.

The LA Times reports that the failed deal was worth around $500 million and would have given the investment consortium control of the company’s entire assets. The site states that the company was set to renamed under a new board of directors, “the majority of which would be composed of women.” However, talks collapsed when the New York attorney general’s office filed a civil rights lawsuit against the Weinstein company, alleging that senior executives failed to prevent the mistreatment of staff by Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein was fired from the company in October, following a series of revelations published in the New York Times that he reportedly paid off sexual harassment accusers. Since then, many more former employees and colleagues have come forward with their own stories about Weinstein’s alleged abuse.

One of the biggest names in Hollywood, Weinstein won the Best Picture Oscar for 1999’s Shakespeare In Love and also picked up a nomination for 2003’s Gangs of New York. Among his other producing credits included films like Pulp Fiction, The Aviator, and Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
