  • Mass Effect 4D Real-World Thrill Ride Gets New Video

Amusement park California’s Great America has released a new video for its “4D” Mass Effect attraction, which opens this spring. As announced previously, the ride is called “Mass Effect: New Earth,” and it’s described as a “4D holographic journey.” What’s that mean? Check out the video to get an idea.

“Welcome aboard Mass Effect: New Earth at California’s Great America, where anyone can be an explorer,” says the narrator. “Please prepare for an immersive, 4D holographic across the galaxy…if you dare.”

Writing on Twitter, Great America said the attraction features the “world’s largest 3D LED screen.” The ride was produced in partnership with Electronic Arts and Mass Effect developer BioWare.

When New Earth was announced in September 2015, it was described as a “first-of-it’s-kind guest experience,” featuring “settings and characters” from the series, brought to life virtually.

Visitors will “climb aboard motion-based seating and wear 3D glasses, live performers will curate the journey and interact seamlessly with the ‘next generation 3D visual.’” In addition to the motion seating, the ride will have “high-tech sound and other 4D effects.”

Video game publishers are increasingly turning to theme parks to extend their franchises. This is in fact EA’s second amusement park ride, as an “intra-active 3D game experience” based on Plants vs. Zombies is opening this spring at the Carowinds theme park in North Carolina.

In 2015, Nintendo announced a partnership with Universal Theme Parks, while Ubisoft is building its own theme park in Malaysia with Assassin’s Creed and Rabbids attractions.

  • "Big" Dark Souls News Teased for Tomorrow [UPDATE: IT'S A CLOTHING LINE]

[UPDATE] Bandai Namco has announced that the big news was the launch of a Dark Souls clothing line for Europe. You can see all of the items here in the store.

    The original story is below.

Dark Souls fans, you’re getting some “big” news soon, it seems. Bandai Namco UK’s Twitter account today teased that the company will share some “big Dark Souls news” tomorrow, April 8.

The tweet doesn’t specifically mention Dark Souls III, so it’s possible this announcement is related to some kind of non-gaming project.

We have some big #DarkSouls news tomorrow – stay tuned! pic.twitter.com/3WscLpVmJk

    — Bandai Namco UK (@BandaiNamcoUK) April 7, 2016

Another possibility is some details on Dark Souls III’s upcoming expansion packs or possibly something else altogether. We’ll have all the details tomorrow when the news it announced.

Dark Souls III comes out on April 12 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is already available in Japan, having launched there on March 24.

GameSpot’s Dark Souls 3 review awarded the sequel 8/10.

“There are several possible endings to Dark Souls 3, and although most are anticlimactic, they drive home the loneliness of the paths we took,” said reviewer Mike Mahardy.

“The old lords have abandoned their posts, and in the hunt to usurp them, we descend into those dark valleys, and climb those imposing peaks. This is the essence of Dark Souls III: periods of doubt, followed by great reward. The journey may be rocky, but there’s a throne waiting at the end.”

In other news about Dark Souls III, you can watch Silicon Valley actors TJ Miller and Kumail Nanjiani play the game and make jokes about it.

  • MLB The Show 16 Facing "Crippling" Server Issues – Report

MLB The Show 16 Facing "Crippling" Server Issues – Report

Sony’s MLB The Show 16 is apparently facing some serious-sounding issues. Sports gaming writer Pasta Padre writes that the professional baseball game has been at times “completely unplayable” during primetime hours (3 PM PST-10 PM PST) following its launch last week on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

“MLB The Show 16 was essentially rendered completely unplayable unless disconnecting entirely from the internet before starting it up,” according to the report, explaining the state of the game on April 6. The site described the game as experiencing “crippling server drag.”

If you could connect, the game could take upwards of five minutes to load the main menu, “and navigating to any other page took several minutes on their own,” the site said.

Pasta Padre added: “There hasn’t been an issue comparable to this one since NBA 2K14 was down and unplayable for a full week over the holidays in 2013.”

Game Informer also reported experiencing the issues with MLB The Show 16. They say that any part of the game that access the servers is impacted, including single-player modes like Road to the Show and franchise.

Sony performed some server maintenance on April 6, but it apparently did not improve the experience. More server maintenance was conducted last night (April 7), Sony said on Twitter. We will report back with updates on the state of the game as new details become available.

Check back soon, too, as GameSpot will be posting its MLB The Show 16 review shortly.

  • Explore the Superhero Conflict in New Captain America: Civil War Promos

The upcoming Marvel blockbuster Captain America: Civil War looks as if it will feature just as much spectacular superhero action as its two predecessors. The difference this time however is that it’s hero against hero, with Cap and his allies fighting against Iron Man and the remaining Avengers. Two new featurettes have now been released that dive into the conflict–check them out below:

Civil War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who also made Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and will next be tackling the two Avengers Infinity War movies. Although Robert Downey Jr is expected to return as Iron Man in Infinity War, with no Iron Man 4 planned, it is strongly rumoured that they could be his final appearances as Tony Stark. In a recent interview with Forbes, the directors were asked about the possibility of the character being recast for subsequent films.

“It’s almost impossible to replace Robert, he’s the biggest movie star in the world,” Joe Russo said. “One close up from Robert is worth another actor’s entire performance, he’s incredibly gifted and insanely talented. I think if and when he is done with the character I think you will find that Iron Man might disappear for a while.

“I think the only way that you could reboot that character is to give a generational gap that would allow another actor to at least have a chance to redefine that character without the enormous spectre of Robert hanging over it.”

The Russos also spoke about Infinity War, and how it would be “about as ambitious as movies get.”

“It is intended to be the entire culmination of the Marvel cinematic universe,” Anthony Russo revealed. “In many ways, [it is] the end to that part of it. The title alone indicates that there will be an incredible scale and scope to it.”

Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, and Jeremy Renner. It hits cinemas on May 6, 2016. Avengers: Infinity War Part One arrives in 2018, with Part Two following in 2019.
