  • Disney Announce New Slate of Fairy Tale Movies, Mary Poppins Sequel Star is Confirmed

Disney Announce New Slate of Fairy Tale Movies, Mary Poppins Sequel Star is Confirmed

With the new version of The Jungle Book currently soaring at the box office, Disney are looking to capitalise on its success with a slate of new live-action fairy tale movies. The studio have announced release slots for a further five fairy tale and fantasy films over the next few years.

As reported by Collider, we can expect big budget live-action reimaginings, prequels, and sequels on the following dates:

    • UNTITLED DISNEY FAIRY TALE (Live Action) previously dated on 12/22/17 moves up to 7/28/17
    • UNTITLED DISNEY FAIRY TALE (Live Action) now dated on 4/6/18
    • UNTITLED DISNEY LIVE ACTION now dated on 8/3/18
    • UNTITLED DISNEY LIVE ACTION now dated on 12/25/18
    • UNTITLED DISNEY FAIRY TALE (Live Action) now dated on 12/20/19

These are in addition to a number of films that are awaiting release, including Alice Through the Looking Glass next month, Pete’s Dragon in August, and the Emma Watson-starring Beauty and the Beast in March 2017.

While titles are yet to be attached to those dates, it is known that several fairy tale movies are currently in development in Disney. According to Sky News, it is now confirmed that Emily Blunt will star in a sequel to Mary Poppins, to be directed by Chicago‘s Rob Marshall. Another spinoff to a much-loved classic on the way is Cruella, a 101 Dalmatians prequel set to star Emma Stone as the iconic villainess.

Elsewhere, we can possibly expect Tim Burton–whose Alice in Wonderland made more than $1 billion worldwide in 2010–to tackle to baby elephant classic Dumbo. And previous hits Maleficent and The Jungle Book will also receive sequels.

The Jungle Book has to date made more than $528 million at the global box office, in less than two weeks. Whether other studios start to develop their own fairy tale properties or steer clear of Disney remains to be seen. It was reported last week that Warner was looking to Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón to help differentiate their rival version of The Jungle Book from Disney’s, following an earlier decision to move the film’s release back an entire year.

Microsoft has announced a Gears of War 4 Season Pass for DLC. The $50 package (not an uncommon price for passes for AAA games), includes an assortment of digital content like maps and more.

Announced on Xbox Wire, the Gears of War 4 Season Pass includes:

    • VIP Vintage Pack — Vintage JD character skin, vintage Gnasher and Dropshot weapon skins, vintage JD emblem, and vintage JD bounty that gives you extra XP.
    • Permanent DLC map ownership for 24-plus maps — At least two per month for 12 months for private play on dedicated servers.
    • Developer Playlist –– This lets you play upcoming modes, maps, and variants before they are released publicly.
    • Six Gear Packs — These let you unlock character and weapon skins, as well as equipment and abilities, along with bounties that offer extra XP.

As announced previously, Gears of War 4 multiplayer DLC maps will be free, but are offered on a rotating basis. The only way to guarantee that you can play a specific map whenever you want is to buy it, either through the Season Pass or presumably as a standalone offering.

In other Gears of War 4 news, Microsoft has announced a $100 Ultimate Edition, which comes with the game and Season Pass; in addition, everyone who buys this version gets to play four days early. A $250 Collector’s Edition featuring an awesome-looking JD Fenix statue has also been announced.

Gears of War 4 launches on October 11. You don’t have to wait that long to play, however, as the game’s open beta is going on right now.

  • Nioh Demo Out Now, Complete It to Unlock Special Item for Full Game

Nioh is an upcoming action game from Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja, and looks to be heavily inspired by Onimusha and Dark Souls. A demo for it is available now on PlayStation Network in Europe.

“Experience the newest brutal action game from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo Games,” reads the description. “In the age of samurai, a lone traveler lands on the shores of Japan. He must fight his way through the vicious warriors and supernatural Yokai that infest the land in order to find that which he seeks.”

The demo weighs in at 3.8 GB and those that complete it will be able to “download The Mark of the Conqueror, which will entitle them to a reward in the final game.”

The demo will only be available from April 26 until May 5.

As previously announced, after the demo period is over Team Ninja will solicit feedback through an online survey so it “can make [the game] even more fun.”

The full game is due out in 2016, but a specific release date has not been announced.

Nioh was announced for PS4 in December during PlayStation Experience. Prior to that, it had been intended to come to PS3–as a launch game, no less–but development issues resulted in it being shelved.

You can get a glimpse of the game in action in the demo trailer above, as well in previously released footage.

  • Major Pro Gaming League Bans YouPorn's Gaming Team, Here's Why

Major Pro Gaming League Bans YouPorn's Gaming Team, Here's Why

[UPDATE] The ESL provided multiple statement on the matter to GameSpot, explaining its policy and the recent decision to ban Team YP from official events.

“Advertising pornography is not legal in the markets we operate in, and the vast majority of partners we’re working with have strict ‘no drugs, no alcohol, no pornography’ rules that we’ve contractually taken on board. These aren’t new rules, but ones that have been in our rulebooks for a long time.

“We have spoken to Team YP manager earlier this year and in that conversation we’ve explained the situation and rules in detail, and offered to look for potential alternatives in a bigger group. At the same time, we’re consulting with our legal teams about this. We will inform the team and the management as soon as we have any updates.”

A representative for ESL also informed GameSpot that its “no drugs, no alcohol, no pornography” rules are not new and that Team YP is only just now going public with its side of the story. In addition, Team YP has not participated in any of ESL’s pro leagues, including ESL One and IEM, we’re told.

“The rule has been put in place and enforced since more than a year and a half ago, and there are more examples of situations where Team YP has been either asked to change name or warned they won’t be able to play/qualify for event under the Team YP flag,” the ESL representative said. “However, discussions with the teams have been going on for a long time so it is not like we just decided to enforce it now, they just made it public now.”

    The original story is below.

Major eSports organization Electronic Sports League is severing ties with adult website YouPorn’s professional gaming team, Team YP. This is being done in the wake of an new existing rule that blocks sponsors who are “widely known for pornographic … or other adult/mature themes and products.”

That’s according to an email that ESL management sent to Team YP, according to a report today from GamesBeat.

According to GamesBeat, Team YP tried on numerous occasions to alter its branding and messaging to appease ESL, including changing its logo and name to say YP instead of YouPorn. Additionally, the organization adjusted its SEO so that when people searched for Team YP on Google, they wound up at a safe-for-work Team YP site and not the XXX site.

“I am disappointed that Team YP’s growth is being stunted by this decision, not to mention the effect that this will have on our roster of players,” Team YP manager Claire Fisher told GamesBeat. “While for some, our participation in eSports has been controversial, stopping our players from competing because they are sponsored by us, in spite of Team YP operating as a completely SFW brand, clearly separated from any adult content, seems unfair to say the least.”

The ESL has not responded to GamesBeat’s request for comment, while GameSpot was also unable to reach the company at press time. For lots more on this story, head to GamesBeat to read the full report.

Team YP runs teams for games like Mortal Kombat X, Evolve, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, StarCraft II, and Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Writing on Twitter, Team YP said it hopes it can overcome “these obstacles.”

Thank you everyone for your support. Team YP will overcome these obstacles and usher in an age of equal opportunity in esports for all.

  • This New Witcher 3 Blood and Wine Expansion Image Is Brutally Gruesome

This New Witcher 3 Blood and Wine Expansion Image Is Brutally Gruesome

The world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s Blood and Wine expansion may be colorful and vibrant in some sections, but, as the story synopsis teased, there is a dark, foreboding tone to the content as well.

This is not the image in question; that one is linked below

Developer CD Projekt Red has now shared an image from Blood and Wine that shows Geralt standing over the body of a man who is literally ripped apart, with what appear to be his entrails in a bucket nearby.

The image, which was posted as an exclusive for the game’s forums but wound up elsewhere, can be seen here on Twitter. If you’re eating your lunch, maybe don’t look just yet.

In other news about Blood and Wine, community manager Marcin Momot has teased that “lots and lots” of new information about the expansion will be shared in May.

Blood and Wine will deliver a “fascinating” story that contains “every sort of twist and turn you’d expect from our writers,” Momot said recently about the content, which is set in the new region of Toussaint.

“Toussaint is unlike anything you’ve seen in Wild Hunt–carefree and colorful, but your gut never stops telling you that there’s some real dark stuff happening underneath all that,” he said.

Blood and Wine was originally expected out in Q1 (January-March), but later shifted to the first half of 2016 (January-June). A retailer listing suggested the expansion will launch on June 7, but a CD Projekt Red representative told GameSpot, “No official date had been announced.”

The Witcher 3’s first expansion was called Hearts of Stone and came out in October. CD Projekt Red previously said The Witcher 3’s two expansions, combined, amount to “almost the size of The Witcher 2.” Blood and Wine is expected to offer around 20 hours of gameplay, compared to about 10 for Hearts of Stone.

In other news about The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red announced new Gwent cards at PAX East this weekend.

The items include a Worms W.M.D. topper, along with a grenade antenna and flag. You can see all of these items in the gallery above. Worms W.M.D. comes out this summer for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Rocket League’s April 26 update is a big one. They key new addition is the basketball-themed mode “Hoops,” which will be played on a map called “Dunk House.” Rocket League has already taken on hockey and of course soccer, and we can only wonder what sport the game may riff on next.

  • How to Play Gears of War 4 Four Days Early

Gears of War 4 launches on October 11, but there is a way to play four days early, it’s been announced. A listing for a Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition popped up on Xbox.com recently, with its description explaining that people who buy the $100 bundle can play four days early, starting on October 7 (via VideoGamer.com).

Paying extra to play early is not a new idea for Microsoft, as the same kind of promotion was offered for racing game Forza 6. Outside of Microsoft, last year, 2K Sports let people play NBA 2K16 days ahead of launch if they preordered a copy.

In addition to early access to Gears of War 4, the Ultimate Edition comes with digital items such as a “vintage” Del character for the game’s multiplayer mode, as well as content for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Players will also receive the “Vintage VIP Pack,” early access to a “VIP Playlist” and an allotment of six “Gear Packs” (descriptions below).

Ultimate Edition buyers will also receive unlimited access to Gears of War 4’s multiplayer maps. As announced previously, Gears of War 4 multiplayer maps will be free, but are offered on a rotating basis. The only way to guarantee that you can play a specific map whenever you want is to buy it.

An Xbox.com listing also reveals the existence of a Gears of War 4 Season Pass. This item, which is also included with the Ultimate Edition, includes the following:

    • VIP Vintage Pack — Vintage JD character skin, vintage Gnasher and Dropshot weapon skins, vintage JD emblem, and vintage JD bounty that gives you extra XP.
    • Permanent DLC map ownership for 24-plus maps — At least two per month for 12 months.
    • VIP “Early Access” playlist –– This lets you play upcoming modes, maps, and variants before they are released publicly.
    • Six Gear Packs — These let you unlock character and weapon skins, as well as equipment and abilities, along with bounties that offer extra XP.

In other news about Gears of War 4, the game’s open beta for all Xbox Live users begins today, April 25.

  • The Division's Nerfs Have Upset Fox News

Andy Levy, host of Fox News’ Red Eye, has a bone to pick with Ubisoft’ Massive, the developer of The Division. His gripe with changes to the game was snuck into a segment discussing the skills every 18-year-old needs to have to navigate college life and beyond, as posited by former Stanford University Dean Julie Lythcott-Haims. Watch the video below (via VG247).

While recounting these skills, which include the ability to manage workload, have good interpersonal skills, and manage money, Levy dropped dropped in this golden zinger: “Be able to gear up your character in The Division despite the way Massive nerfed the crafting system and allows packs of super-geared Rogues to gank you in the Dark Zone–thanks a lot. Jerks.”

It’s safe to say this is one Fox News opinion we can all get behind. We feel you, Andy, we feel you.

The Division has been going through a particularly rough patch lately, as bugs impacting the rate at which special loot is acquired and damage calculation were discovered.

Falcon Lost, The Division’s first raid, was found to contain a flaw that allowed players to acquire high-level items at a rate much faster than intended. Ubisoft has since deployed a fix for the Falcon Lost exploit.

The damage glitch, meanwhile, let players dramatically increase the power of weapons by equipping the Competent talent. The talent is supposed to increase weapon damage by only 13 percent for 10 seconds after using a skill, but by switching between two weapons rapidly for about 5-10 minutes damage would skyrocket. This was also addressed in a recent update.

The last major update for The Division was release on April 12. It introduced a number of features and the raid-like Incursion. A second free update, Conflicts, is coming in May, while paid expansions will follow later.

  • Doctor Who's New Companion Revealed in Action-Packed Teaser

Ever since Jenna Coleman announced her departure from the long-running sci-fi show Doctor Who last year, fans have been speculating about who will take over as the Timelord’s companion. It has been revealed that Pearl Mackie will play the Doctor’s next assistant. The actress made her Doctor Who debut alongside Peter Capaldi this weekend in a new teaser–check it out below:

As the clip suggests, Mackie won’t be seen in her role as Bill until 2017, when the next season premieres. This will be the tenth since the show rebooted in 2005, and the last under the guidance of showrunner Steven Moffat.

Capaldi, who has played the Doctor since 2013, described Mackie as “a fine actress with a wonderful zest and charm.” He added: “She’s a refreshing addition to the TARDIS and will bring a universe of exciting new possibilities to the Doctor’s adventures.”

Moffat’s departure follows six years in charge of the show. He is to be replaced from season 11 by Chris Chibnall, who has worked on such prominent British shows as Broadchurch, Life on Mars, Law and Order: UK, and the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood.
