  • Quantum Break PC Crash Fix Requires Microsoft to Update Windows 10 First

Remedy Entertainment has said Microsoft needs to update Windows 10 before it can address a memory management issue causing crashes in the PC version of Quantum Break.

The studio posted an update on the game’s forum, where a list of known issues is being catalogued. It said Microsoft is aware of the problem and intends to address it.

“Microsoft has identified a Windows 10 memory management issue which may cause Quantum Break to crash on some GPUs,” it explained. “This crash is seen more frequently at higher game settings. Microsoft plans to fix this in a future Windows Update.”

On April 13, Remedy apologised for a number of performance problems discovered with the PC version of Quantum Break, and assured players it was “working diligently” to resolve them.

The PC version was found to be incapable of running at a smooth frame rate and crashed with certain hardware configurations. Many of these issues are believed to be linked to the Universal Windows Platform.

Since then Remedy detailed workarounds to alleviate some of the issues and confirmed it plans to launch an update for Quantum Break by May 1.

“Both the Xbox One and [Windows 10] Quantum Break title updates are in the certification process right now,” said Thomas Puha, the studio’s head of PR. “The title update’s are still in testing … still some bugs to fix.”

The full list of Quantum Break’s known issues and workarounds can be found here.

Reports have suggested that Remedy Entertainment is also deep into development on an unannounced new game. Development of the project has reportedly been underway since August 2015.

  • Activision Responds to Call of Duty 4 Remaster Rumors With Poop Emoji

Activision Responds to Call of Duty 4 Remaster Rumors With Poop Emoji

The evidence for the existence of a Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remaster continues to mount, albeit in an unusual manner. The official Call of Duty Twitter account has replied to a years-old tweet in which someone said, “I will literally sh** my pants” if Activision remastered Modern Warfare for PS4.

Call of Duty’s response can be seen below.

As you’ll notice, the original tweet was posted all the way back in December 2014. That Activision would respond now, with rumors swirling about the next Call of Duty game and the Modern Warfare 4 remaster, is definitely curious. The remaster is rumored to be bundled with Call of Duty: Infinite War, a listing for which popped up on the PlayStation Store this week.

If an official, complete announcement is coming, it might arrive very soon. Activision historically announces new Call of Duty games in the late April/early May window.

This year’s Call of Duty game is developed by Infinity Ward (the creators of the Modern Warfare series) and was initially announced during an earnings briefing in February. At the time, however, Activision declined to share any further details about the game, outside of describing it as “innovative.”

We will report back with more details about the next Call of Duty as they become available. What do you make of all the rumors? Let us know in the comments below!

  • New X-Men: Apocalypse TV Spots Promises End-of-the-World Action

Summer may be still be a couple of months off, but the superhero season is very much here. Captain America: Civil War opens in the UK today and the US next week, and that will be followed by X-Men: Apocalypse at the end of May. Two new TV spots have been released for 20th Century Fox’s movie–check them out below:

These clips are the latest promotional teasers for the film, following this week’s final full trailer and this cool retro viral video.

The aforementioned full trailer confirmed that Hugh Jackman would be making an appearance as Wolverine, something that had been rumoured for some time but only now confirmed. Director Bryan Singer explained that Jackman’s role would be more than just a quick cameo.

“I will say, it’s not simple,” he told Empire. “There’s something more pivotal that occurs with that. It hints to a sequence that again fits within the canon of all six movies, and the birth of a new direction. It’s not insignificant, nor is it simply just a throw-in.”

X-Men: Apocalypse is released on May 27, 2016, and stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, and Rose Byrne.

  • How PS4 Sales Could Be Affected By Japan's Deadly Earthquakes

How PS4 Sales Could Be Affected By Japan's Deadly Earthquakes

As part of its earnings announcement today, Sony reported that PlayStation 4 sales have grown for three years in a row, with some 40 million systems sold to date. This momentum is expected to continue, but CFO Kenichiro Yoshida warned that there is a chance PS4 component availability could be impacted by the recent earthquakes that shook southern Japan and killed more than two-dozen people.

“We expect the strong momentum of the PS4 platform to continue,” he said in prepared remarks [PDF link]. “Due to the impact of the earthquakes, there is a possibility that the supply of components from certain vendors might be affected.”

However, even with that impact taken into consideration, Yoshida said he remains confident that Sony can still exceed 17.7 million PS4 sales (the number of consoles it sold in the previous financial year) for the upcoming twelve months.

“Currently, we are considering a variety of ways to minimize the impact of the earthquake on the results in this business,” Yoshida said, referring to Sony’s video game division.

Two earthquakes, magnitudes 5.4 and 7.3, rocked Kumamoto earlier this month, killing at least 29 people and injuring more than a thousand others, according to GameSpot sister site CBS News.

Because the earthquakes’ epicenters were reportedly relatively shallow, they produced shaking and damage that was more severe than what might happen with a more traditional earthquake.

For more on the natural disaster, you can read CBS News’ full report.

Sony has around 3,500 employees in the Kumamoto area. The company has confirmed the safety of all of its employees in the region, though it said some are still living in evacuation centers with their families. Sony’s Kumamoto Technology Center semiconductor building was damaged by the earthquakes, but was described as not being too serious. Still, the company has taken its time to inspect the facility (made more difficult since the aftershocks went on for “a long time”), thus impacting the center’s output.

The company expects to incur expenses primarily for recovery and reinforcement work. It did not put a dollar amount on the costs, but said it has delayed its earnings forecast until it can figure things out. The Kumamoto center primarily supplies components for digital cameras. “We deeply regret that our ability to supply them has been affected,” Yoshida said.

Sony also revealed that it does not have earthquake insurance that covers direct physical damage and opportunity losses for lost sales. However, the company can get back ¥20 billion, but Yoshida warned this may not cover the full amount of losses that resulted from the earthquakes.

While not directly affected by the earthquakes like Sony was, Square Enix–which is based in Japan–made a sizable donation to support the ongoing relief efforts.

  • Superhot Xbox One Release Date Announced

Superhot, the first-person shooter where time only moves when you do, will be available on Xbox One from May 3, developer Superhot Team has announced.

The game was originally conceived during the 7 Day FPS game jam. A prototype for the unique shooter meets puzzle game experience was made available for free, and is still playable here. A Kickstarter campaign for a more fleshed out version began in 2014 and raised over $250,000. It was released on PC and PlayStation 4 in February.

Following its release, Superhot Team confirmed an Xbox One version was in the works, along with a virtual reality port of the game.

“We are constantly working on the Xbox One version of Superhot and doing secretive work on a bunch of grand VR plans,” the studio said. “We can’t tell you too much but Superhot in VR is going to be fun, oooh so much fun.”

It is unclear whether the VR version will be available on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or PlayStation VR, or exclusive to one of them.

GameSpot’s Superhot review awarded it an 8/10, and described it as a “clever game with deep, hidden elements that require committed and thorough examination.”

“While the core gameplay didn’t evolve drastically, the story that drives it did, taking me along for a ride that I never saw coming,” said Peter Brown. “In doing so, it opened my eyes to possibilities within the game that I never considered.”

Uncharted 4’s release date was broken in the UK after copies of the game were stolen in transit. In response, PlayStation games development director Shuhei Yoshida warned fans against potential spoilers.

“As with most Naughty Dog games, the unfolding story is such an integral part of the experience and for this reason we wanted to warn you to beware of the potential for spoilers [that may be] posted by people with access to stolen copies of the game,” he said.

“We know that very many of you have been looking forward with great anticipation and excitement to the latest masterpiece from Naughty Dog. From what I have played of Nathan Drake’s latest adventure, I can tell you that it is very much worth the wait.”

After years of development and multiple delays, A Thief’s End is now due out on May 10. Uncharted 4 is expected to be the final game in the series developed by Naughty Dog, and the last starring Nathan Drake. The Uncharted series may live on outside of Naughty Dog, however.

  • PS4 Sales Accelerate for Third Year in a Row

PS4 Sales Accelerate for Third Year in a Row

PlayStation 4 sales continued to accelerate during the third financial year since the console released in 2013, Sony has revealed.

For the twelve months between March 2015 and April this year, Sony sold about 18 million PS4s. This figure shows that, despite the PS4’s strong start on the market, sales are in fact speeding up. In FY14, which was cited as a very strong twelve-month period for PlayStation, the division shipped some 15 million PS4s.

Total PS4 sales now stand above 40 million units, Sony said. By comparison, the PlayStation 3 has sold more than 80 million units worldwide as of November 2013, seven years after its initial launch. The PS4 has been available for three years.

The PS4’s sustained momentum has helped the PlayStation division bring in revenues of $819 million for the financial year ending March 31.

Year-on-year revenues for the PlayStation division increased about 12 percent to $14.3 billion, while operating profit climbed 84 percent to $819 million.

Sony noted that sales of PS4 software, including those through PlayStation Network, also increased. The reduction of PS4 hardware manufacturing costs, and the elimination of Vita losses, were cited as key contributors to the stronger performance.

Overall, Sony Corporation as a whole made $75 billion in sales, which is down 1.3 percent over the same 12-month period last year. However, it reported profit at $2.7 billion, which is up 330 percent over the previous year.

Reports have suggested Sony intends to introduce a new more powerful version of the PS4 console, and is is “openly sharing [the PS4.5 specification] with developers.” Reports have stated there is currently “no doubt [a new PS4] is real.”

As of yet, Sony has not officially stated any intention to introduce a new model of the PS4.

  • New Zelda Wii U/NX Artwork Revealed, See It Here

New Zelda Wii U/NX Artwork Revealed, See It Here

As part of its announcement today that the new Legend of Zelda game will launch for Wii U and NX in 2017, Nintendo also released a new piece of artwork for the game. It shows off main character Link, who we see wielding some kind of bow, while he also has a mysterious item strapped to his belt.

People on NeoGAF are offering their ideas for what secrets may be embedded in the image, while someone pointed out that the object around Link’s waist looks like a Hearthstone card.

The Legend of Zelda for Wii U/NX is launching sometime in 2017. It was previously expected to come out in 2016, but the delay–and the confirmation of an NX edition–was announced today as part of Nintendo’s latest earnings report. As for the NX, the system goes on sale in March 2017.

We’re likely to learn more about the new Zelda game at E3, but Nintendo does not plan to show off the NX during the summer show.

This won’t be the first time Nintendo has released the same Zelda game for multiple platforms, as the company launched The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for GameCube and Wii.
