  • Red Dead Redemption 2: How To Set Your Horse To Autopilot

Red Dead Redemption 2: How To Set Your Horse To Autopilot

A big chunk of the experience of Red Dead Redemption 2 is crossing the wide-open spaces of the Wild West on horseback. The world is huge, and while there are a lot of things to do along the way no matter where you’re headed, getting anywhere is going to take time. That’s not always a bad thing; the world of RDR2 is beautiful, and it’s kind of nice to just sit on your horse and take it all in.

You can further lessen the tedium of travel in Red Dead Redemption 2 by letting your horse take the lead when you ride. The game includes a feature that lets you set your horse to automatically take you to a destination by sticking to trails and roadways. Your horse is pretty smart, and once you’ve given it the right instructions, it can be trusted to do the traveling–you just need to pay attention to any events happening on the side of the road that you might want to check out, and to watch for any bandits who might try to get the drop on you.

    No Caption Provided

In order to set your horse to autopilot, you first need to define where you want the horse to go. Do that by pulling open your map and setting a waypoint marker at your destination. The game then lays out the route to your location by way of trails, like a GPS would. That’s the path your horse will follow to your destination.

When you mount up, start riding your horse like normal, and press the button to spur it (X on PlayStation, A on Xbox One) until you get up to the speed at which you want to travel. Once you’re going fast enough, hold down the spur button to maintain your horse’s speed, same as when you’re matching speed with a companion during a mission.

    No Caption Provided

While you’re holding the spur button, press and hold the button to switch camera perspectives (the trackpad on PS4, View on Xbox). You’ll see a small meter filling in the corner of the screen marked Cinematic Camera. Once that activates, your horse will follow the trails to your final destination with no further input from you. In fact, you can lay the camera down and watch as the camera swings around to give you different perspectives on Arthur’s ride and the world around him.

Once you’re going, you can tap the spur button again in time with your horse’s gallop to speed it up, and touch the slow button (R1 on PS4, RB on Xbox) to reduce your horse’s speed without canceling its autopilot. Pressing in the right Analog Stick switches the camera to a new angle, should you not like the one the game picks for you. You can take back control just by touching the control sticks, and you can switch the camera back to normal by tapping the camera button again.

    No Caption Provided

The Cinematic Camera trick is nice when you’ve got a long trip and you don’t want to bother steering your horse around every tiny curve in the trail, but it has some drawbacks. For one thing, you won’t be able to quickly see things on the side of the road until you turn off the Cinematic Camera, should you happen to ride past an optional activity. You’ll also be a bit vulnerable if you’re letting the horse do the driving, should bandits, outlaws, or lawmen attack you while you ride.

Generally, though, letting your horse take the reigns is a nice way to relax as you get around Red Dead Redemption 2 and enjoy the scenery. Just be sure to keep your revolver handy–just in case.

  • Apple Says Its New iPad Is As Powerful As Xbox One S; Microsoft Responds

During an event today Apple announced a new iPad Pro model, and it apparently is incredibly powerful. Vice president of hardware engineering John Ternus maked the claim at one point that it’s as graphically powerful as the Xbox One S. The system boasts a new A12X Bionic chip that Apple claims delivers “2X faster graphics.” It has an eight-core CPU and seven core GPU.

“To put it another way, the iPad Pro delivers Xbox One S-class graphics performance in a product that’s 94 percent smaller. And there’s no AC cord required.”

I liked the reference to XB1S in the announce, Apple stepping up the iPad Pro for some great Xbox to iPad cross-play matches, nice.

    — Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) October 30, 2018

Ternus said the new iPad Pro represents the “biggest change” to the family of devices since it was introduced. He said this new model is the one Apple engineers dreamed about making from the beginning.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer responded to Apple’s claim, saying he enjoyed Apple’s reference during their presentation. He added that the device, with its new, better graphical capabilities, should make for better cross-play matches between Xbox and iPad for games that support it.

The new iPad Pro is priced at $799 (£769, AU$1,229) for the 11-inch model and $999 (£969, AU$1,529) for the 12.9-inch edition. For lots more on the device and its capabilities, as well as all of Apple’s announcement today, go to GameSpot sister site CNET.

  • Fortnite's Next Update Has Been Delayed

Epic has announced a delay in the 6.21 update for Fortnite. Originally scheduled for October 31 at 2 AM PT / 4 AM ET / 9 AM BST, the update has been postponed to November 1.

According to Epic, the delay is a result of a “last minute issue” discovered in Fortnite’s new build. The battle royale game was scheduled to go down on October 31 for maintenance while the update was installing, but that is no longer the case. Players should expect Fortnite to go down on November 1 instead. As with previous Fortnite updates, the patch notes for 6.21 won’t be released until the day of release.

Fortnite is currently in the midst of its limited-time, Halloween-themed event called Fortnitemares. Introduced on October 23 in update 6.20, the event lasts until November 26 and introduces a new PvP mode that meshes both Fortnite’s popular Battle Royale and original Save The World. “Explore all of the tasty treats, exciting appearances, and new looks,” Epic Games said about the event. “During Fortnitemares, you’ll face off against Cube Monsters in a whole new way of playing Battle Royale. There are new weapons to fight back against these creepy creatures, like the Six Shooter and Fiend Hunter Crossbow.”

Fortnitemares’ challenges are set to alternate every few days throughout the event. For now, the four challenges are the ones listed below. However, part of update 6.21 could be changes to the challenges, so get to them now if you haven’t already.

    Fortnitemare Battle Royale Challenges

    • Destroy Cube Monsters (200) — 500 XP
    • Deal damage with Assault Rifles or Pistols to Cube Monsters (5,000) — 500 XP
    • Visit a Corrupted Area in different matches (7) — 500 XP
    • Dance at different Gargoyles (5) — 500 XP

Fortnite is available for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, mobile, and PC.

  • Battlefield 5 Microtransactions Won't Be Available At Launch

Battlefield 5 Microtransactions Won't Be Available At Launch

Because it is a Big Game Coming Out In 2018, EA’s Battlefield V will have microtransactions. Now, developer DICE has talked further about how the WWII shooter uses microtransactions, and when they will be available in the game.

Starting off, Battlefield V has two forms of currency: Company Coin and Battlefield Currency. Company Coin is earned through in-game progression (ex. career progression, daily missions, special assignments), and you can spend this currency on customisation options for your Company, or group of soldiers.

“You can use Company Coin to unlock choices within weapon and vehicle Specializations. You can also use Company Coin to get cosmetic items, such as jackets, face paint, and weapon skins,” DICE said in a blog post.

Cosmetics for soldiers and weapons will be available at launch, while cosmetics for vehicles will launch later in the Tides of War update.

The real-money currency in Battlefield V is called Battlefield Currency. You can buy cosmetics with Battlefield Currency, but not items that actually affect gameplay. This is the expected route to go, as DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront II generated a lot of controversy and negative attention for its microtransaction system (which has since been scaled back to only offer cosmetic items to buy with real money).

Battlefield V’s paid microtransactions are coming sometime after launch. “Balanced rock-paper-scissors gameplay has always been the foundation of the Battlefield series, and our belief is that real-world money should not enable pay-to-win or pay-for-power,” DICE said.

Microtransactions isn’t the only part of Battlefield V coming after launch. The game’s battle royale mode, Firestorm, won’t be available until March 2019.

  • Respawn Has Multiple Games Scheduled For Release By End Of 2019

EA has announced that Respawn–the developer behind the critically acclaimed first-person shooter Titanfall 2–is scheduled to launch multiple games prior to the end of 2019. Neither EA nor Respawn has confirmed what those games might be.

The announcement came about during a quarterly earnings call, when EA CEO Andrew Wilson stated, “Across multiple studies, we have new projects underway, including games from Respawn that are slated to launch by next holiday season.” Respawn is currently working on three titles, so Wilson’s reference to “games” as opposed to just “a game” implies at least two are coming out next year. As of right now, Respawn is working on Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, another Titanfall game, and an unnamed VR title.

Details concerning all three games are fairly vague, but Respawn CEO Vince Zampella was able to confirm a few details about Jedi Fallen Order at E3 2018–including that the game is scheduled for 2019’s holiday season. So it’s safe to say that Jedi Fallen Order is one of the games in question, but whether Respawn is also close to finishing its third Titanfall game, the unnamed VR title, or both remains unknown.

Zampella has spoken to GameSpot about Titanfall before, admitting that Titanfall 2’s sales should have been much better and citing the game’s launch window between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as a serious detriment. With that being the case, it would be a little odd for EA to have Respawn launch another Titanfall game during the normally busy holiday season. So if the next Titanfall is coming out in 2019, we imagine it would be coming out earlier in the year. But we’ll have to wait and see.

Although it’s not much, we do have a bit more info about Jedi Fallen Order. The game takes place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and puts players in the role of a Jedi Padawan who escaped Order 66. Zampella describes the game as taking place during one of Star Wars’ darkest periods, and promises players will be able to use a lightsaber.

  • New Resident Evil 2 Remake Trailer Shows Off Deluxe Edition Costumes

Capcom has released a new trailer for the Resident Evil 2 remake. The video showcases both protagonists, Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, in their respective alternate costumes that come included in the Deluxe and Collector’s editions of the game.

Claire has a Military and Elza Walker outfit. Elza was the planned female protagonist for Resident Evil 1.5. However, when the game was ultimately scrapped, the motorcycle racer’s backstory was reworked and used for Resident Evil 2‘s Claire. Meanwhile Leon only has one exclusive skin, the Arklay Sheriff. Both characters have a Noir costume, which can be paired with a Noir filter to give the game a classic vibe.

All of Claire and Leon’s costumes come included in Resident Evil 2 remake’s special editions. In the Deluxe Edition, you also get an exclusive pistol and the option to swap the remake’s soundtrack with the music of the original Resident Evil. In the Collector’s Edition, the costumes come with everything in the Deluxe Edition plus a 12-inch Leon statue, an art book, and R.P.D. renovation blueprints. The Collector’s Edition is exclusive to GameStop and comes packaged in a special R.P.D. item box. Both the editions are available for pre-order.

The Resident Evil 2 remake releases on January 25, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The remake will make slight alterations to the original Resident Evil 2’s formula, but will remain true to the gaming classic. Back in 1998, we gave Resident Evil 2 a 8.9/10 in our review, commending it as a game with “unique camera angles, storyline, graphics, sound effects, and music” that “surpasses its predecessor in nearly every aspect of gameplay…”

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Hunting Tips: Legendary Animals, Pelts, And Where To Find Them

Red Dead Redemption 2 Hunting Tips: Legendary Animals, Pelts, And Where To Find Them

In Red Dead Redemption 2, hunting is an important part of exploration and survival in the vast open world. In addition to finding food and other necessary supplies, you’ll be able to use materials taken from fallen prey to craft outfits and talismans, which unlock special perks that amplify Arthur’s main attributes. As you travel, you may even stumble upon an elusive animal that other explorers have rarely seen. Your first encounter with such a beast will be the Legendary Grizzly Bear, which can offer up a legendary bear pelt if you’re able take it down.

These Legendary Animals can be found across the many regions of the map and take some extra effort to hunt. While some of these are small in stature, there are many that tower in size over Arthur and are quite dangerous in a fight. But if you’re able to take them out, you’ll acquire the means to craft some of the game’s most valuable accessories and outfits. These particular animals offer the rarest pelts and materials you can find, which can be turned in to the local Trappers and Fences–those shady, black market dealers offering up some of the rarest goods. But rest assured, any materials that can’t fit in your bags will be sent straight to the respective merchants.

In this feature, we’re giving you all the details you need in order to track and hunt each of the game’s Legendary Animals. If you want some extra tips for general survival and even fishing–which has its own set of Legendary Fish–be sure to check out our guides and features relating to each of Red Dead 2’s most involved gameplay systems. • Black Ops 4 Update Balances Zombies And Launches Black Market; Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Treyarch has released another update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This one balances Zombies mode and launches the Black Market across all platforms.

At Black Ops 4’s launch, Zombies was slightly unfair for anyone tackling the mode solo or in a team of two. This new update primarily makes the game mode a little bit easier for players who don’t have a full team of four, but it also adjusts Elixirs that were either overpowered or underpowered. According to the update’s patch notes, solo players and two-person teams will now earn experience more quickly, and last zombie bleed-out time will be twice as long. Hellhounds also won’t spawn as often in Blood of the Dead and Classified during mixed rounds, and players will be able to use four unique Elixirs per round from now on.

The update also makes the Black Market live across all platforms, so every Black Ops 4 player can now start earning the items offered in Operation: First Strike. The Black Market contains items specifically for multiplayer and Blackout, including signature weapons, gestures, outfits, calling cards, tags, stickers, and new characters. Starting October 27, a limited-time Halloween event will go live that offers cosmetic items with a “spooky seasonal” theme.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

  • Three Resident Evil Games Are Coming To Nintendo Switch

Capcom has announced Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 4 are getting Nintendo Switch ports. All three ports are currently scheduled for 2019, but a specific release dates haven’t been revealed yet. Capcom tweeted that more info is coming “soon.”

The original Resident Evil first released in 1996, and it went on to spawn an entire franchise of zombie-killing video games. Some, like the 2002 prequel Resident Evil 0, are also third-person survival horror games, while others are more action-centric or play out in first-person. 2005’s Resident Evil 4 is widely considered as the best in the series, and received critical acclaim upon release.

When Resident Evil first released, we gave it an 8.2/10 in our review, praising it for “the gorgeous, photorealistic, dilapidated rooms and abomination-filled corridors” and describing it as a “genuinely” scary experience. In our Resident Evil 0 review, we gave the prequel an 8/10, wishing the game had acknowledged all “the things that have made Resident Evil a nuisance to some” but enjoying the gameplay and story all the same. We awarded a 9.6/10 in our Resident Evil 4 review, assuring that the game would blow away anyone who’s “entertained by any other mature-rated action game.”

While Switch owners may appreciate them, this certainly won’t be the first time these games been ported to another platform. The original Resident Evil is available on Playstation, PC, and Nintendo DS. There’s also an HD remaster for GameCube and Wii, as well as a remake for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC. Resident Evil 0 is available on GameCube and Wii, with an HD remaster on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC. Resident Evil 4 can be played on GameCube, PS2, PC, Wii, and mobile, with a HD remaster available for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3.

The last new game in the main-line franchise was Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which went first-person but retained the survival horror roots of the original game. A remake for Resident Evil 2 is in the works and scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on January 25 in 2019.

  • Fallout 76's Minimum PC Specs Are Higher Than Fallout 4's

Bethesda has announced the minimum PC system requirements you’ll need in order to run Fallout 76. You’ll be able to try Fallout 76 on PC for the first time during the October 30 beta, and the progress you make will carry over into the full game when it launches.

The PC specs for Fallout 76 are more demanding than the ones for Fallout 4, so if your setup could barely run the latter, you might want to consider upgrading before playing the former. At the very minimum, you’ll need to be playing on Windows 7 and running on an Intel i5 Core processor. Bethesda recommends you go Windows 8.1 or 10, though, and run the game on an Intel Core i7 processor.

The minimum and recommended PC specs can be found on Fallout 76’s FAQ page, but we’ve listed everything you need to know below.

    Fallout 76 PC Specs

    Minimum

    • Requires 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600k 3.5 GHz/AMD Ryzen 3 1300X 3.5 GHz or equivalent
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 285 2GB or equivalent
    • Memory: 8GB RAM
    • Storage: 60GB of free disk space

    Recommended

    • Requires 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 7/8.1/10
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6 GHz/AMD Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5 GHz
    • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 4GB/AMD R9 290X 4GB
    • Memory: 8GB RAM
    • Storage: 60GB of free disk space

The second Fallout 76 beta is exclusive for Xbox One and starts on October 27 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST. This beta won’t go for as long as the first one, only lasting two hours. However, another two-hour Xbox One beta will start the very next day at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST. The next beta after that is the one scheduled for October 30, and it will be live for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Bethesda tweeted out that the first Xbox One beta for Fallout 76 was an “amazing start.” You can watch us play through the first beta, which we thought went pretty well all things considered. We did suffer one game crash and there was a bit of trouble when we tried to join an in-game party, but we only had severe frame rate drops when there were dozens of enemies on the screen. Prior to the beta’s launch, Bethesda published a statement that lag issues are to be expected.

Fallout 76 launches on November 14 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
