  • Mortal Kombat X-Inspired Beer Is on the Way

Mortal Kombat X-Inspired Beer Is on the Way

Juggernaut gaming franchises Call of Duty and Fallout already have their own beer, and now another one of gaming’s biggest names, Mortal Kombat, is getting involved. Warner Bros., Sound Brewery, and Global Beverage Traders have announced a series of beers based on the fighting game Mortal Kombat X (via Polygon).

Here’s what they look like (full descriptions below):

The beers include a “Scorpion” imperial stout, a “Sub-Zero” imperial IPA, and a “Raiden” imperial saison Belgian-style ale. All of them aim to “match the intensity and excitement” of the game with their “bold flavors.”

Here are the official descriptions for each brew, along with the ABV.

    SUB-ZERO IMPERIAL IPA

    • Refreshingly cooling on a warm day, an Imperial India Pale Ale that’s not all about the hops or the malt but is a whole lot of both fighting it out for your palate’s supremacy. Drink icy for more of the hops or warmer for more malt. 8.5%

    RAIDEN IMPERIAL SAISON

    • This amped up Imperial Saison has a blast of hops and CO2 that will hit your tongue with a bang. The aroma jumps out of the glass with its earthly and herbal notes not far behind. 8%

    SCORPION IMPERIAL STOUT

    • A unique blend for great Imperial Stout brings both fire and ice into your glass. The fiery southwest chilies and cooling Madagascar Vanilla Bean pair nicely with the exotic notes produced by our own yeast strain. 8%

These are officially licensed brews; they come in 22oz bottles and will be available through a “limited release.” They were made by Sound Brewery in Poulsbo, Washington.

  • Next PS2-on-PS4 Game Coming "Soon"

    Next PS2-on-PS4 Game Coming "Soon"

Double Fine’s beloved platformer Psychonauts is coming to the PS2-on-PS4 program “soon, but not this week,” Sony announced on the PlayStation blog today. Back in January, Sony confirmed Psychonauts was coming to PS4 this spring, but has not yet announced an official release date; there are only a few more weeks left in spring.

According to DualShockers, Sony initially said the release was scheduled for June 7, but that is not the case. “Psychonauts is coming out soon, but not this week. Apologies for the error. Stay tuned for final timing!” Sony explained.

Psychonauts was originally released in 2005 for PS2, along with the first Xbox and PC. A sequel was successfully funded on Fig earlier this year, raising more than $3.3 million.

When Psychonauts is released on PS4, it will become the 27th game in the PS2-on-PS4 program. The most recent addition was Primal, which came out on May 31.

In December 2015, when the first PS2-on-PS4 games were released, PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida said Sony will work “tirelessly” to release even more PS2 games for PS4 “on a regular basis.” The company is also asking for your suggestions for which games should be added.

On the subject of price points for the PS2-on-PS4 games, Yoshida said the emulation technology that makes it possible, among other things, doesn’t necessarily come cheap. That’s why Sony is charging $10-$15 for games you might already own.

    PS2-on-PS4 Games:

    • Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
    • Bully
    • Dark Cloud
    • Dark Cloud 2
    • Fantavision

  • PT-Like Horror Game Allison Road Cancelled

The PT-style horror game Allison Road has been canceled, its developer reported on Twitter.

No explanation for the delay was provided, but the tweet mentioned that a further statement on the matter is coming soon.

Hi all. Sadly Allison Road had to be cancelled. Statement to come in the next few days. Thx for all your support and very sad it came 2 this

    — Allison Road (@AllisonRoad_HQ) June 5, 2016

“Hi all. Sadly Allison Road had to be cancelled,” the tweet said. “Statement to come in the next few days. Thx for all your support and very sad it came to this.”

The fan project got off the ground on Steam Greenlight in 2015. It initially turned to Kickstarter for funding, though developer Lilith later partnered with Worms developer Team 17 for a traditional publishing deal.

“Working with Team 17 will give us the chance to make our game unhindered creatively, but at the same time will give us the resources, support, and experience that only a 25-year-old studio can give,” Lilith said in October 2015.

The original plan was for Allison Road to be released on PC before the end of 2016, followed by Mac, Linux, and console ports after that.

As for PT, it was a teaser/demo for the canceled Silent Hills, and was taken off of PlayStation Network in April 2015.

We’ll report back later this coming week with more details on Allison Road’s cancellation when they’re announced.

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare "In-Depth" Campaign Demo Coming to E3

While Activision will not have a booth at E3 2016, that doesn’t mean one of its biggest games, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, is skipping the show. Writing on Twitter today, the Call of Duty account teased that it Infinity Ward will showcase an “in-depth” look at the shooter’s campaign later this month at the show.

This doesn’t rule out the possibility of multiplayer footage also appearing during the event. The footage will air on June 13. Though Activision didn’t say when or where, it might be that the footage is shown during Sony’s E3 briefing that day, given the partnership between Sony and Activision.

Can’t wait for gameplay footage? Get ready for an in-depth look at the #InfiniteWarfare campaign at E3 on June 13. pic.twitter.com/l7Z4kwwYSz

    — Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) June 4, 2016

Infinite Warfare’s campaign follows the soldier Captain Reyes. He pilots the Retribution, one of Earth’s last remaining warships. Reyes’ story will see him lead the “remnants of coalition forces against a relentless enemy.” The campaign will take players across the solar system, spanning locations including Earth and beyond in a “grand scale war.”

Infinite Warfare launches on November 4 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. All DLC will come to PS4 first, thanks to the above-mentioned Sony-Activision deal.

Activision is also releasing a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare this year, but the only way to get it is to buy one of the premium versions of Infinite Warfare.

  • Halo 5's Biggest-Ever Expansion Teased, Coming End of June

Halo 5's Biggest-Ever Expansion Teased, Coming End of June

Halo 5‘s Warzone Firefight expansion, the Xbox One shooter’s biggest since launch, is coming out at the end of the month. In 343’s latest weekly blog post, the developer shared a status update for how it’s coming along and teased more about what it contains.

“A wide variety of teams are hard at work to get their final work and polish completed,” 343 said. “These include the Warzone team, who are finishing up the PvE mode, the Warzone Boss Refresh we first mentioned in the last issue, and more.”

343 also released images of some of the new Warzone Firefight bosses players will encounter–they look badass. They each have Ultra-class armor, 343 said. Check them out in the images below.

Additionally, while May’s second free update, Hog Wild, did not include any new maps, that won’t be the case for Warzone Firefight. 343 said in the blog post that players can expect “new places,” while the update will also deliver “new tools of destruction.”

Additionally, 343 teased that there are “a few surprises” about the Warzone Firefight expansion that have not been announced yet. One of these could be related to Forge.

343 shared the image below, which appears to suggest the 7 Wood melee weapon might be making a comeback. 343’s Tom French said about the teaser image, “No idea what it might be for.”

The full blog post contains other details about what went on at 343 and across the Halo universe this week. Check it out here.

Warzone Firefight will be Halo 5’s seventh free expansion. The other ones were The Battle of Shadow and Light (November), Cartographer’s Gift (December), Infinity’s Armor (January), Hammer Storm (February), Ghosts of Meridian (April), Memories of Reach (May), and Hog Wild (May).

  • Star Wars Battlefront 3 Fan Remake Devs Say It's Been Approved for Steam Release

Star Wars Battlefront 3 Fan Remake Devs Say It's Been Approved for Steam Release

Frontwire, the developer behind the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront III remake, Galaxy in Turmoil, has announced that Valve has agreed to host the game on Steam. This is a big change, as Frontwire had previously told its fans it might not be possible (on Steam proper or Steam Greenlight) due to its use of the Star Wars IP. But there was a breakthrough recently.

“It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil,” Frontwire president Tony Fergie Romanelli said in a statement. “After ongoing discussion between Valve representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to its millions of users for FREE.”

Since Galaxy in Turmoil will make use of the Star Wars IP, and is unlicensed, you might be wondering if Disney will come forward to shut it down, even though Frontwire won’t charge for it. Romanelli shares some of those concerns, but he isn’t overly worried, it sounds like.

“I’ll be honest–I’ve had mild concerns myself from time to time,” Romanelli explained. “However, Valve clearly lacks that same concern. By agreeing to publish Galaxy in Turmoil, Valve is assisting us in growing and ensuring the longevity of the Galaxy in Turmoil project and community as a whole.”

Romanelli shared an image of Galaxy in Turmoil’s Steam page, but it does not appear to be live on the platform just yet.

For more on Galaxy in Turmoil, which runs on Unreal Engine 4, check out this roundup of everything we learned from a recent livestream.

Despite numerous and detailed evidence about its existence and development, LucasArts never actually confirmed that Battlefront III was in fact in production. The game has long been the subject of much rumor, speculation, and head-butting.

EA launched a new Star Wars Battlefront game in November for PlayStation 4,Xbox One, and PCit was a big, big hit. Multiple sequels are apparently also on the way.

  • Halo 5 Player Recreates Ender's Game In a Zero-Gravity Mode

Halo 5 Player Recreates Ender's Game In a Zero-Gravity Mode

Players have added Star Wars ships, the fictional sport Quidditch from Harry Potter, and a live avalanche to Halo 5: Guardians with the game’s Forge mode. Now, one creative player has recreated the zero-gravity Battle Room from Ender’s Game, and you can have actual battles just like the ones from the book and movie.

Reddit user Aurelien-131 is the minigame’s creator, and he showed what the mode looks like in a GIF he posted to the gaming subreddit. The Battle Room in Ender’s Game hosts battles between two “armies,” where they can shoot to freeze each other and open their enemy’s gate to get in. Aurelien couldn’t recreate this perfectly in Halo 5, so they put a twist on it.

Players start with plasma pistols that have infinite ammo. For the gates, they put strongholds that work in a similar way to the movie–in Ender’s Game, five people need to get through the gate to end the battle, while a Halo stronghold gets captured faster as more people stand within it. Capturing the stronghold wins the match, but you can also kill all enemy players if you want to take a more violent approach. Whoever takes three rounds first wins the match.

Aurelien offered some advice to people who want to play his Ender’s Game-like mode.

“Since playing Halo with no gravity is probably not a common occurrence for most of you, I’ll add this tip: Going up is as simple as jumping, but going back down can be tricky,” they said. “Ground pounding is the obvious choice, but for a slower and more controlled descent you can simply zoom in so that your stabilizers activate, which will make you fall when you let go. As a last resort you can also boost to the nearest wall and the downward slope of the sphere will guide you down.”

They added that “8v8 is ideal” for this mode, though 4v4 should be fine. You can read their entire post here.

It was recently announced that Halo 5’s Forge tools would make their way to the PC later this year. A PC version of Halo 5 was not announced, though people will be able to make Forge maps on PC and publish them for use on Xbox One.

  • Halo 5 "Clogged Toilet" Mode Challenges You to Kill Zombified Feces

The fan-made Halo custom gametype, Clogged Toilet, has made its triumphant return in Halo 5: Guardians. Xbox Live’s LittleMonk5 is behind the impressive-looking Forge mode that is now playable in the game.

In Clogged Toilet, the goal is to stop zombified feces from surviving a trip up the pipe; you have a shotgun (unlimited ammo) and two grenades to do your damage. As you can see in the video below (shot by Forge Labs), the map has a massive plunger and roll of toilet paper, but these don’t factor into the gameplay, unfortunately.

You can download the Clogged Toilet map and gametype here and here on Halo Waypoint. “$#!% is about to go down…” is its description, of course.

In other news about awesome Halo 5 Forge creations, someone has made a map/mode that lets you pilot Star Wars spaceships such as X-wings and TIE fighters.

Clogged Toilet was first seen in Halo 3 (the first Halo game that had Forge tools), with subsequent appearances in Halo: Reach and Halo 4.

Halo 5’s Forge tools are coming to Windows 10 PC for free, though this does not mean the game itself will also arrive for computers. Additionally, a report claimed future Halo games will be released across console and PC.

As for the base game, Halo 5’s Hog Wild update landed this week, introducing new Warthogs and more.
