  • Nintendo Would “Absolutely Love” Red Dead 2 On Switch, But It's Not Going To Happen

Nintendo would “absolutely love” to have Red Dead Redemption 2 on Nintendo Switch, but more than likely it won’t happen. That’s according to Nintendo of America executive Reggie Fils-Aime, who explained in a new interview one of the reasons why the acclaimed western isn’t on the company’s hybrid console.

Fils-Aime told The Hollywood Reporter that developer Rockstar Games likely started work on the game years before Nintendo started to talk about the Switch. As a result, the developer might not have been able to accomodate another platform, Fils-Aime suggested.

“We’d love for it to be there. But again–and this is where there needs to be an understanding of just the development process–Red Dead has been in development for years, time that predated any communication of Nintendo Switch,” Fils-Aime said.

“So, from the developer’s mentality, they need to move forward and finish the game they’ve been working on and then be in a position to look at other opportunities. Any game from a key third-party that’s coming out now, typically that development started well before any conversations about Nintendo Switch.”

Fils-Aime acknowledged that he can’t say for sure what will happen with future Rockstar games, but for now, this explains why Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t on Switch.

Additionally, it’s not uncommon for platform-holders to show their new, unannounced consoles to developers well ahead of when they are publicly revealed. By some accounts, Red Dead Redemption 2 began development just after the first game shipped in 2010, and if that is indeed the case, that was still during the Nintendo Wii days.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a graphically demanding game, and the Switch is underpowered compared to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Fils-Aime doesn’t mention this is in his comments.

Rockstar’s owner, Take-Two, has released a few games on Switch already. L.A. Noire, NBA 2K18, NBA 2K19, and Carnival Games are all available on the console.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is doing just fine without releasing on Switch. The game shipped 17 million copies and generated more than $725 million in revenue just days after release. What’s more, it took only eight days for Red Dead Redemption 2 sales to surpass the number of copies of Red Dead Redemption 1 sold in eight years.

  • Destiny 2 Dawning Baking Recipes Guide: How To Make All Cookies And Get Your Dawning Cheer Sparrow

Destiny 2 Dawning Baking Recipes Guide: How To Make All Cookies And Get Your Dawning Cheer Sparrow

The Dawning, Destiny 2‘s holiday-themed event, is always all about gift-giving, just like the Halloween-themed Festival of the Lost is about wearing masks. Activities during the December event usually have you finding and giving gifts to the various characters in Destiny 2, and this year those gifts have a different twist–you’re baking treats for all the game’s major characters.

Destiny 2 is, of course, a game about shooting, so most of your confections will be crafted from the bones (and other parts) of your enemies. As you go marauding through the solar system, you’ll gain items you can stick in a special oven in order to make treats. Eva, the character who puts you on your quest, gives you one recipe for cookies, but the rest you have to find through trial and error–unless you have our guide.

Baking all the goods on Eva’s list and giving them to the people around the Tower will net you an Exotic sparrow, as well as a number of Triumphs. The Dawning runs through the month of December, so there may well be more rewards in store as well, in a similar way to how the Murder Mystery quest of the Festival of the Lost turned out to reward players with Thunderlord. Here’s everything you need to know to bake cookies in Destiny 2, as well as the recipes we’ve uncovered so far. We’ll update this list as more information and more recipes become know.

    Get Your Ingredients

The stuff you use to actually make the cookies comes from out in the world and completing various activities. For each batch of cookies, you’ll need three things: a common ingredient, a rare ingredient, and 15 Essence of Dawning.

Killing enemies in the world yields common ingredients based on what kind of enemy you kill; there’s something different for Fallen, Vex, Cabal, Taken, Scorn, and Hive. Rare ingredients drop based on the means of killing enemies. If you use explosives, you might get a Delicious Explosion ingredient; a sword kill could earn you a Sharp Taste. They’re mostly pretty easy to figure out, but a few are a little confusing. Here’s how to get each ingredient.

    • Delicious Explosion: Explosive kills
    • Sharp Flavor: Sword kills
    • Impossible Heat: Solar kills
    • Electric Taste: Arc kills
    • Null Taste: Void kills
    • Flash of Inspiration: Create Orbs of Light
    • Personal Touch: Melee kills
    • Perfect Taste: Precision kills
    • Bullet Spray: SMG and Machine Gun kills
    • Essence of Dawning: Complete activities in the solar system

    Recipes

These are the combinations we’ve found that yield specific cookies. Note that you need 15 Essence of Dawning for each recipe in order to make the oven work. We’ll keep updating this list as more recipes are discovered.

    • Gjallardoodles (deliver to Zavala): Ether Cane, Delicious Explosion
    • Infinite Forest Cakes (deliver to Failsafe): Vex Milk, Impossible Heat
    • Gentleman’s Shortbread (deliver to Devrim Kay): Ether Cane, Perfect Taste
    • Vanilla Blades (deliver to Shaxx): Cabal Oil, Sharp Flavor
    • Radiolarian Pudding (deliver to Asher): Vex Milk, Electric Flavor
    • Eliksni Birdseed (deliver to Hawthorne): Ether Cane, Personal touch
    • Chocolate Ship Cookies (deliver to Holliday): Cabal Oil, Null Taste
    • Telemetry Tapioca (deliver to Banshee-44): Vex Milk, Bullet Spray
    • Traveler Donut Holes (deliver to Ikora): Cabal Oil, Flash of Inspiration
    • Javelin Mooncake (deliver to Ana Bray): Chitin Powder, Sharp Flavor
    • Dark Chocolate Motes (deliver to the Drifter): Taken Butter, Null Flavor

    Don’t Throw Away Your Failures!

If you create a recipe combination that doesn’t work, you’ll get Burned Edge Transit cookies. You’ll lose whatever ingredients you put in, plus your Essence of Dawning that you needed to do the cooking. But just because your cookies are horrible doesn’t mean these are a total loss. You can’t get your lost ingredients back, but you can reclaim the Essence, which is something since every batch of cookies you make costs 15 Essence, and you need to complete activities to get more.

To get your Essence of Dawning back, head to the Tower and talk to the Cryptarch. He’ll accept your burnt cookies as gifts and trade you back 15 Essence–the complete cost of cooking the bad batch. You can then immediately try a new recipe if you’ve got the ingredients, without having to go find a Public Event or some other activity to complete.

    Earning Your Sleigh

To unlock the Dawning Cheer sparrow, you need to make a few specific cookies, as well as 12 batches in total. To unlock it to start, make Vanilla Blades, Chocolate Ship Cookies, and Eliksni Birdseed using the recipes above. Once you’ve delivered them, you’ll unlock the sparrow.

After you’ve got the sparrow, you can set about repairing it to complete a Triumph. We’ll update this section when we figure out the deal there.

  • Big Black Ops 4 Update, Operation Absolute Zero, Out Now On PS4

Treyarch’s first major post-launch content update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has gone live for some players. Operation Absolute Zero is now available on PS4 (with an Xbox One and PC release set to follow soon), and it introduces a new character, daily Zombies missions, a revamped Black Market, and more.

Headlining the update is Zero, Black Ops 4’s newest playable Specialist. She can be unlocked by completing tier 1 of the new Black Market and will be available to use in both multiplayer and the Blackout battle royale mode. Zero specializes in hacking, and she can use her skills to “disrupt and distract enemies.”

Additionally, Treyarch has introduced a new area to the Blackout map: Hijacked. Inspired by the fan-favorite Black Ops II map of the same name, the luxury yacht can be found in the northwest quadrant of Blackout’s map. On top of that, the developer has added a new armored vehicle called the ARAV to the mode as well.

Zombies mode, meanwhile, has received new daily challenges dubbed Callings. Completing these will reward players with XP and Nebulium Plasma. Treyarch has also added a new Black Ops Authenticity Stamp system to the mode, which allows players to share the results of their game online with others.

Also of note, Treyarch has revamped the Black Market progression system to make it “simpler and more rewarding.” The developer has also added a new Assault Rifle and a “fast-firing” SMG that players can unlock through Contraband tiers. You can read more details about the update on the official Black Ops 4 website.

In addition to Operation Absolute Zero, PS4 players who own the Black Ops Pass now have access to another handful of content, including two new multiplayer maps, Elevation and Madagascar; a new Zombies chapter, Dead of the Night; and a new Blackout character, Reaper. PC and Xbox One players will get access to this content a little later due to Activision’s ongoing timed exclusivity agreement with Sony.

  • Fallout 76 Patch Notes Detail What's New In Latest Update

Bethesda has released another big update for Fallout 76. The latest patch weighs in at around 5 GB on PS4 and Xbox One and 3 GB on PC, and it introduces some notable CAMP improvements and SPECIAL respeccing to the game, along with a litany of bug fixes across all platforms.

Foremost, the new update makes it so that small obstructions, such as rocks and small trees, will automatically be cleared out when you build CAMP items near or on top of them. Additionally, Epic has implemented a notification system that will let you know when you log in if your CAMP location is occupied by another player. If you decide to stay in that session, Bethesda says you’ll be able to place your CAMP somewhere else for free. If you opt to join a different session, your CAMP will automatically appear in its original spot if it is unoccupied.

Beyond the CAMP improvements, the new update allows you to respec your SPECIAL once you reach level 51. At that point, you’ll have the option to either unlock a new Perk Card or reallocate one SPECIAL point each time you level up. Bethesda has also added new display options for the PC version, specifically 21:9 resolution support and field of view and depth of field sliders.

Rounding out the latest update is a handful of balance tweaks, as well as a long list of bug fixes. Among other things, the Scorchbeast Queen will now land on the ground more often than before. Super Mutants will also drop gunpowder less frequently, while .308 ammo will now drop in stacks of one to five. You can find the full patch notes on Bethesda’s website; we’ve also included a selection of them below.

Bethesda plans to release at least one more update for Fallout 76 before the year wraps up. As the developer previously outlined, it is aiming to deploy another patch around December 18, which will “focus on stability and other concerns raised by the community.” Then, beginning in early 2019, Bethesda will kick off “a variety of in-game events” in Fallout 76. Each one will be different and will feature some sort of “interesting twist” on the typical Fallout 76 gameplay.

Fallout 76 December 11 Update Patch Notes

    Highlights

    • CAMP Construction Improvements: Small obstructions will now be automatically removed when you place objects on top of them, allowing you to more easily build when and where you want.
    • CAMP Placement Improvements: You will now be notified when you log into a world and your current CAMP location is occupied by another player. If you stay in that world, you can place your CAMP back down for free. If you decide not to place your CAMP and join a new world where your space is unoccupied, it will be automatically placed in its original spot.
    • SPECIAL Re-speccing: Upon reaching level 51, and every level thereafter, you’ll be able to choose whether you want to unlock a new Perk Card or reallocate one SPECIAL point.
    • Push-to-Talk: We’ve implemented a push-to-talk hotkey for Voice Chat on PC so that you can decide when to speak up and when to remain silent.
    • New PC Settings: We’ve added Field of View and Depth of Field sliders so that you can further customize your view in-game.
    • 21:9 Resolution Support: On PC, you can catch an even wider view from those gorgeous Appalachian vistas, because Fallout 76 now supports monitors that use 21:9 aspect ratios.

    • Loot: Super Mutants will now drop Gunpowder half as often, and the chance for additional loot has been reduced. Caps are guaranteed loot on Super Mutants until level 16.
    • Scorchbeast Queen: Will now land on the ground more often.
    • Workshops: Players no longer gain XP when crafting at a public Workshop.

    CAMP, Crafting, and Workshops

NEW — Automatically remove obstructions in CAMPs:

    • Rocks, small trees, and other small objects no longer prevent players from building items in those locations.
    • These obstructions are now automatically removed upon constructing objects and structures in CAMP, such as Foundations.
    • Placing an object to remove an obstruction and then removing that object, will cause that obstruction to reappear after some time or upon logging back in.

    NEW — CAMP placement improvements:

    • A notification will now be displayed to players upon logging into a world if their current CAMP location is occupied by someone else.
    • If they to choose remain in that world, they will be able to place their CAMP in a new location for free.
    • Alternatively, if the player decides not to place their CAMP in a new location, and instead joins a new world, their CAMP will be automatically placed back in its original location—provided that spot is unoccupied.

Additional CAMP, Crafting, and Workshop updates:

    • CAMP: The percentage of a CAMP’s Budget that is being taken up by stored items and Blueprints will now appear in the Budget bar.
    • CAMP: While in build mode, players can now toggle the left joystick on controllers, or press “Q” on PC, to switch view between objects that can be built and those that cannot.
    • Windmill: The power produced by the Windmill has been increased from 3 to 12.
    • Workshops: Players can now purchase Atomic Shop items directly from the Workshop menu.

    Progression

    NEW — SPECIAL Re-speccing:

      • This change is not retroactive for characters that have already progressed beyond level 50 but will apply to every level-up they achieve going forward.
      • If a player chooses to reallocate a SPECIAL point on leveling-up, they will be unable to select a new Perk Card for that level, and vice-versa.
      • Re-speccing details have also been added to the “Perks” section of the in-game Help menu.

    Quests

    • Event Quests: A 15-minute cooldown timer has been added at the end of each Enclave Event Quest.
    • Event Quests: XP reward amounts have been reduced for the following Event Quests:
      • Fertile Soil, Collision Course, Tea Time, Guided Meditation, Distinguished Guests, Battle Bots, Line in the Sand, Protest March, Grafton Day, Patrol Duty, Jailbreak, Back on the Beat, and Feed the People.

      • Both the Caps Lock and “/” hotkeys can be rebound in the Controls Menu.

NEW — Depth of Field Setting (PC):

    • A Depth of Field slider has been added and can be adjusted in the game’s display settings menu.

NEW — Field of View Setting (PC):

    • A Field of View slider has been added and can be adjusted in the game’s display settings menu.
    • The Field of View slider can be adjusted in increments of 5, to a maximum of 120, and a minimum of 70.
    • Note: Field of View will be automatically set to 70 while modifying a character’s appearance but can otherwise be set between the values mentioned above.

NEW — 21:9 Resolution Support (PC):

    • The game client will now automatically detect and apply the correct display resolution for monitors that use 21:9 resolutions.
    • Additionally, various 21:9 resolutions can be selected in the game’s display settings menu.

    Additional User Interface Updates:

    • AFK Timer: The timer that disconnects players after a period of inactivity in-game has been increased from 10 to 30 minutes, and the warning prompt will now display 3 minutes, rather than 1 minute, prior to being disconnected.
    • Atomic Shop: Items that have recently been added to the Atomic Shop now display a “New” icon, and new items will now sort to the front of their associated subsections.
    • Atomic Shop: Item subtitles in the Atomic Shop have been moved to the top of item images.

  • Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 Pass Now Available

Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 Pass Now Available

Rainbow Six Siege‘s Operation Wind Bastion update recently arrived on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, marking the end of the game’s third year. Ubisoft still has a lot more content in store for the shooter in 2019, however, including another batch of Operators. With the new season just around the corner, the publisher has already begun offering the Year 4 pass for Siege, and it grants holders some good benefits.

The Year 4 pass is available for purchase on all platforms. Much like previous Siege passes, it costs $30 and entitles players to a number of perks. Chief among them, those who purchase the Year 4 pass will receive seven-day early access to all eight of the new Operators being introduced to Siege in Year 4, and you won’t have to grind for in-game currency in order to unlock them, as you would if you don’t own the pass.

On top of that, Year 4 pass holders will get a handful of exclusive items, including eight uniforms and headgear, as well as the Lava 6 Charm. Owners will also receive 600 bonus R6 credits, along with a few other benefits through January 31, 2020, such as 5% Renown boost and a 10% discount in Siege’s in-game shop.

    No Caption Provided

As an added bonus, everyone who picks the pass up before March 4, 2019 will get the Volcano Signature weapon skin. Those who own the Year 3 Pass will also receive an additional 600 RS credits when they pick up Year 4’s. You can read more about the season pass on the official Rainbow Six Siege website.

Ubisoft has yet to announce the new Operators coming to Rainbow Six Siege in Year 4, but the recent Operation Wind Bastion update introduced Nomad and Kaid. The former is an Attacker whose primary weapons come with a device that launches wind-powered proximity mines, while the latter is a Defender who’s equipped with deployable electroclaws. Operation Wind Bastion also introduced a new map named Fortress.

  • VR Gaming 2018 Report Card: Year In Review

Virtual reality gaming has been a tough field to navigate since its public debut in 2016, mostly because it was a brand-new technology that had immense hype leading up to the launch of three major platforms. Over time, we got to see VR experiences evolve from its early stages in terms of scale and ingenuity as developers built upon previous work and implemented new lessons learned. In 2018, there were a few flashes of brilliance that proved VR gaming doesn’t need to chase realistic visuals or total physical immersion for a transformative experience, but rather fine executions of creative ideas using the tech that’s already in place.

Despite a refined version of the HTC Vive and an entry-level standalone Oculus headset in the Oculus Go, PlayStation VR stole the show late in 2018. It might be bit surprising to think that as time marches on, the more primitive technology was home to the year’s best VR games; PSVR still runs on PlayStation 4 hardware (Pro or otherwise), tracks players through the PlayStation Camera, and uses the unsophisticated Move controllers. But it’s a testament to Sony’s ability to secure exclusivity, establish a wider platform, and have developers deliver unique, compelling experiences. And if it wasn’t for a handful of great games, 2018 would’ve been wholly underwhelming for VR.

Astro Bot: Rescue Mission was a definite highlight of VR gaming in 2018, exclusive to PSVR.

PlayStation VR Comes Out On Top With Games

Japan Studio created something truly special for PSVR with Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. Its initial pitch may not sound like much: a seated 3D platformer where you control an “AR Bot” that was once a mascot for PSVR’s Playroom mini-game suite. However, it turned out to be much more than that with one clever idea after another executed to near-perfection. You control the bot itself as you handle the DualShock motion controls to use gadgets and interact with the environment. These two elements effortlessly work in tandem to solve puzzles, navigate challenging platform sequences, and take down bosses. And it all came together thanks to color and charm instilled in the game’s world and characters.

In 2018, there were a few flashes of brilliance that proved VR gaming doesn’t need to chase realistic visuals or total physical immersion for a transformative experience, but rather fine executions of creative ideas using the tech that’s already in place.

Leading up to the release of Tetris Effect, you may have been wondering, “What could Tetris do in 2018?” Well, producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi put that doubt to rest. By merging captivating Rez-like visuals, a momentous soundtrack, and an increasing challenge, the traditional Tetris gameplay was elevated to something greater than piecing a series of blocks together to clear lines, especially when played in VR. Each of its stages presented new visual themes and music genres that brought both an overwhelming intensity at times and a calming pace at others.

Although we’ve seen tactical multiplayer FPS on PC VR platforms, Firewall Zero Hour showed that this style of game can work on PSVR, despite its relative technical limitations. Zero Hour is a slower-paced, multiplayer-only shooter that pits two teams of four against each other to complete objectives. It may have shortcomings in terms of map design, progression, downtime between matches, but it’s a unique PSVR experience that also put the Aim controller to good use.

In August, Sony revealed that the PSVR had sold three million units, which is more than its direct competitors Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. It’s not much of a surprise given the lower barrier to entry, and this install base means that VR games could thrive on Sony’s console.

Multiplatform Games Made Special On PSVR

Moss first released on PSVR in February before arriving on Vive and Rift in June. The third-person 3D action platformer used a whimsical art style to get you invested in the fate of its cute little mouse protagonist named Moss. Developer Polyarc combined simple, yet clever combat mechanics and challenging puzzles which was a delight. But it used VR to great effect by presenting a grand sense of environmental scale and seamlessly integrating traditional DualShock controls and motion sensor capabilities.

Evasion came out on all three major platforms, but it’s one of the few games that put the PlayStation Aim controller to use with its new cooperative FPS experience.

There are few rhythm games like Beat Saber, available on PSVR, Vive, and Rift.

Lastly, you can’t bring up VR games without mentioning Beat Saber, an exhilarating rhythm game that has you slicing blocks to the beat of a song. Each block requires you to chop it in a certain direction using the left and right VR controllers, inducing a dance-like flow that feels gratifying regardless of difficulty. Beat Saber had an official release on PS4, but it’s in early access for Vive and Rift. Unique to the PC versions however, is the ability to import your own songs for custom tracks in game, though that feature is still in development.

HTC Vive Pro, Wireless VR, And The Price Of Luxury

In May, HTC launched the Vive Pro, which is a higher resolution version of the original hardware with a few welcome ergonomic tweaks. The Vive Pro bumped up the original resolution from 2160×1200 to 2880×1600, which may not sound like much, but this translated to a noticeable improvement in visual clarity. Vive Pro’s head strap was a vast improvement over the original design and made it much easier to put on and more comfortable with better weight distribution. And the built-in earphones were a critical addition since it was one less thing to worry about when using the Vive.

The big problem, though: price. The Vive Pro costs $800, and that’s just for the headset alone. It really is reserved for the enthusiast that has money to blow since it also requires you to have a Vive setup already, let alone a capable gaming PC. And if you don’t, then you’ll be shelling out $1400 for the full Vive Pro package. It’s an impressive piece of technology, but it wasn’t going to transcend what the industry already had, especially for its asking price.

Perhaps more impactful than a higher-res headset is wireless capability. 2018 saw the launch of the Vive Wireless Adapter, and introduced a high-fidelity untethered experience with minimal input lag. But again like most things HTC Vive, it’s expensive: the Wireless Adapter currently goes for $300 alone.

Oculus Aims For Wider Markets With Standalone Headsets

Oculus has expanded beyond the Rift platform by launching the Oculus Go. It’s a standalone headset that delivers a lighter VR experience, not intended for traditional gaming. The Go is part of the Oculus ecosystem regardless and has a few standout games like Thumper and Republique, but its controller and specs means it’s limited in terms of gaming.

It bears repeating: VR gaming is still in its early stages and is still building for the future.

Oculus Go is also indicative of where the company is going in terms of VR tech. During its Oculus Connect 5 event in September, it announced that Oculus Quest (formerly Project Santa Cruz) would launch in Spring 2019 for $400, which is another standalone headset that’ll have full range of motion, fully featured controllers, and more powerful hardware. Powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor, Quest isn’t quite as powerful as a minimum spec Rift setup, but the prospect of a completely untethered VR experience that makes few concessions is enticing.

    Verdict

At least in 2018, VR gaming was about a couple of great ideas coming to fruition. PSVR separated itself from its PC competitors late in the year by offering a platform that gave rise to a few amazing experiences like Astro Bot and Tetris Effect. It also remains the cheapest VR platform with the slimmest hardware requirements, and in turn, a significantly lower barrier to entry. But VR didn’t offer much outside of that. Advances were made technologically with HTC pushing higher fidelity and Oculus introducing a standalone headset, but neither was intended to serve a wider gaming audience, at least for now.

It bears repeating: VR gaming is still in its early stages and is still building for the future. As developers continue to push VR forward and new games come out, we’ll get closer to seeing VR’s full potential in games. 2018 wasn’t the best showcase of that, but developers are still investing the time into VR platforms, and we’re hoping that comes to light in 2019.

    The Good The Bad
+ A few amazing PSVR games that made the most of the hardware capabilities – Overall lack in impactful games, especially for PC VR platforms
+ Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is the big game VR needed – HTC’s new hardware, while impressive, is far too expensive
+ Advances in tech this year lay the groundwork for the future – Did we mention an overall lack of games?

  • Fortnite Studio Removes All Infinity Blade Games From App Store

Long before Fortnite, developer Epic Games launched a successful mobile game series called Infinity Blade. The franchise’s three games are no longer available, however, as Epic removed them from the iOS App store on December 10 in a surprising and unexpected move.

Everyone who already has Infinity Blade 1-3 installed on their iOS device can continue to play and re-download them (for the “foreseeable future), but all in-app purchases are turned off.

But why is the Infinity Blade franchise getting the boot? In a statement, Epic said it has become “increasingly difficult” to support the franchise “at a level that meets our standards” at the same time as other ongoing projects such as Spyjinx and “other projects.” The statement never mentions Fortnite by name, but surely the battle royale game is one of Epic’s biggest focuses right now.

“The Infinity Blade series will always hold a special place for me personally and for Epic as a whole,” Epic’s Donald Mustard said. “It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye, but we are excited for Spyjinx and what the future holds!”

Epic will continue to support Infinity Blade III with more Clash Mobs and other “surprises” over the next month. What’s more, Epic is giving away the Infinity Blade Stickers app for free.

What’s more, Epic teased that you can expect to see the Infinity Blade franchise appear in “places you wouldn’t expect.” Just today, Epic announced that a sword weapon is coming to Fortnite–and based on the teaser, it sure looks like the sword from Infinity Blade.

The first Infinity Blade launched in 2010, with sequels arriving in 2011 and 2013.

Infinity Blade is not the first Epic title to get scaled back or canceled following Fortnite’s massive success. At the start of 2018, Epic confirmed it was shutting down its free-to-play MOBA Paragon, while just recently, the developer confirmed that it was no longer working on its new Unreal Tournament game. The studio is continuing to work on Spyjinx, an action-strategy game that Epic is working on with Star Wars and Star Trek director JJ Abrams. It was originally scheduled to launch in 2016, but that never happened. The statement today confirms Epic is still working on it, but no new release date has been announced.

Another new Epic project is the Epic Games Store, which recently launched and offers a compelling revenue share split with developers.

  • Monster Hunter World Anniversary Event Coming Next Month

Monster Hunter World Anniversary Event Coming Next Month

Capcom has been supporting its hit action RPG, Monster Hunter World, with a steady stream of updates and events since the game’s launch earlier this year, and it appears there’s still a lot more in store for it in 2019. In addition to the surprise Witcher 3 collaboration and the game’s first major expansion, Capcom has announced it will hold a special anniversary event for Monster Hunter World early next year.

The Appreciation Fest is slated to take place in January 2019. Capcom hasn’t shared many details about the event yet, but it will feature a variety of new and returning quests to take part in, as well as new equipment to earn. As with other seasonal events, the Gathering Hub will also be decked out with special decorations during the event. You can take a peek at how it’ll look below.

Also coming in early 2019 is the aforementioned Witcher collaboration event, which will bring the Witcher himself, Geralt of Rivia, into the New World. Capcom says that players will “get to utilize his signature fighting style” to take on an assortment of Witcher-inspired quests. According to the publisher, these quests will “offer a unique gameplay experience blending RPG mechanics of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with Monster Hunter World’s game systems.”

Then, in Fall 2019, Capcom will release Iceborne, the first major expansion for Monster Hunter World. This “massive” update will introduce a wealth of new content to the game, including new quest ranks, environments, monsters, and gear to craft. The expansion will also feature a new storyline that takes place following the ending of the base game.

In the meantime, you still have a little more time to take part in the ongoing Winter Star Fest. The winter event is slated to end on December 17. Capcom is also bringing the Kulve Taroth Siege back on December 20. This time, it’ll feature a more challenging Arch-Tempered version of the monster that’ll offer even better rewards.

  • Call Of Duty Veteran Who Also Created Dead Space Is Leaving Activision

Activision is losing one of its most senior Call of Duty developers. Glen Schofield, who co-founded the Activision-owned Sledgehammer Games in 2009, is leaving Activision at the end of the month. In a statement posted on Twitter, Schofield said he’s enjoyed a “great run” at Activision, but said he now wants to “try something new.” Schofield and Sledgehammer’s other founder Michael Condrey left the studio in February for new jobs at Activision HQ.

He’s taking some time off to rest and relax before jumping into “something else exciting.” He didn’t share any details on what he might be up to next.

Schofield told GameSpot that he thinks he still has “a couple good games” to make, so you can bet his next gig will be in game development. “I have nothing but good things to say about my time at Activision,” he said. “After nine years of CoD (which I love), I just think I need a change. I seriously am going to take my time finding my next gig. Make sure it’s exactly what I want to do. I still have a couple good games in me.”

According to his LinkedIn page, Schofield got his start in gaming at the now-defunct Absolute Entertainment, where he served as its Art Director from 1991-1994 for Atari 2600 and NES titles. In 1996, he joined Crystal Dynamics as its vice president and executive producer. At that company he worked on a range of titles, including Soul Reaver, the licensed game 101 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue, GEX 2, and more, before leaving in 2002. After Crystal Dynamics, Schofield moved to Electronic Arts where he worked on as the company’s general manager of the now-shuttered Visceral Games label. One of his biggest credits there is Dead Space, which he created; he was also the executive producer for licensed games including The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and James Bond: From Russia With Love.

He left EA in 2009 and founded Sledgehammer alongside Michael Condrey the same year. He served as a game director and chief creative officer at Sledgehammer where he worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and most recently, Call of Duty: WWII. He also contributed to Sledgehammer’s canceled Call of Duty Vietnam War game, which unlike the previous games, would have used a third-person perspective. Sledgehammer stopped working on the game to help finish Modern Warfare 3, after Activision fired Infinity Ward’s Vince Zampella and Jason West.

Writing on Twitter back in November, Schofield teased a new project that he wasn’t allowed to talk about. It seems likely he was referring to a new game, but Schofield also does a lot of artwork, too. Given that Schofield was promoted to a new VP of Development position at Activision HQ, the project he was teasing theoretically could have been anything from Activision, and not necessarily the next game from Sledgehammer. The Call of Duty series is on a three-year, three-studio development schedule, so Sledgehammer’s next game isn’t expected until 2020.

Still under the cone of silence but what I’m working on is pretty freaking cool! Hope it sees the light of day. It’s special.

    — Glen A. Schofield (@GlenSchofield) November 11, 2018

We’ve reached out to Schofield to see if he has any further comment regarding his departure from Activision and what he might do next. Condrey remains at Activision.
