  • Conan Unconquered Is A Strategy Game By Former Command And Conquer Developers

Conan Unconquered Is A Strategy Game By Former Command And Conquer Developers

Funcom has announced that it, including some former Command & Conquer developers, are working a new strategy game set in the Conan the Barbarian universe.

The label of “strategy game” may be a bit misleading, however. The official press release says “Wave after wave of increasingly more difficult enemies will rush at your gates and you will need to manage resources, research new technologies to advance your defenses, and recruit an ever-growing army if you are to save survive utter destruction,” which means it’s more of tower-defense game than StarCraft. The game moves in real-time, but lets you pause to issue orders and create buildings. You’ll also be fortifying your buildings between rounds with defensive walls and the like, as well as unlock new heroes to play as. It also lets you fend off the randomly generated hordes in co-op with one other player.

You can check out the CGI trailer below.

Capcom Announces Special Monster Hunter: World Stream Next Week

At last night’s Game Awards, Monster Hunter: World developers were asked by host Geoff Keighley if they had anything to announce. They demurred and instead said there will be something big within the next couple of days, but they couldn’t say it there on stage. Today, Capcom announced there will be a special Monster Hunter stream for fans on Monday, December 10, likely to introduce whatever it was they were hinting at.

    — PlayStation (@PlayStation) December 8, 2018

It’s been slightly under a year since the game’s late January release, meaning that plans for things like a G-Rank or additional monsters usually get revealed to the public. In the past, Monster Hunter games used to issue entirely new titles for those revisions, which is something Capcom has said they did not want to do this time around, especially as they have the ability to issue them digitally. Could it be a paid DLC expansion, perhaps? What if it’s not an expansion at all? We’ll find out for sure on December 10.

Monster Hunter: World is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

  • Next Beyond Good And Evil 2 Stream To Showcase Pre-Alpha Gameplay

Next Beyond Good And Evil 2 Stream To Showcase Pre-Alpha Gameplay

The Beyond Good and Evil 2 team at Ubisoft has been mostly quiet since the game’s reveal at E3 2017 with occasional outbursts of information. This past year, we’ve seen a small snippet of the game’s fighting system and a story trailer at E3, but not a whole lot beyond that. With the next Space Monkey Report, Ubisoft’s name for Beyond Good and Evil 2 developer updates, we will hopefully see something more significant.

“As promised, we will be back with another Space Monkey Report Live Stream on December 10 at 6:00 p.m. CET / 12:00 p.m. EST,” the game’s website says. “We will be live on TwitchYouTube, and Facebook. We’re excited to reveal some pre-alpha gameplay, so make sure you tune in for this report! You won’t want to miss it!”

The term “pre-alpha” can vary from developer to developer, with some studios using it to mean development states where the mechanics aren’t even nailed down yet and others using it to refer to any time before the game is playable on a consumer level with demos and pre-release alphas. It’s hard to gauge by their use of the term exactly how far the Beyond Good and Evil sequel is right now, but we should be able to gleam something from it.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 currently has no publicly known target platforms or target date.

  • Devil May Cry V Details Leak Ahead Of The Game Awards Trailer, Demo Tomorrow

Devil May Cry V Details Leak Ahead Of The Game Awards Trailer, Demo Tomorrow

    Update: The trailer is below.

On stage, Xbox chief Phil Spencer mentioned that the demo would be first on Xbox, which seems to imply that the demo will hit other platforms eventually.

    The original story follows:

Both Capcom and The Game Awards account had confirmed that new gameplay content for Devil May Cry 5 would appear at the show. Thanks to an accidental leak from the Xbox Portugal Facebook, the trailer released early, containing new information about the game.

The trailer shows all three playable characters, including the mysterious V. While his gameplay style has been kept under wraps, the new trailer shows that he fights using summoned demons and occasionally incorporating his cane in battle. He also appears to have a Devil Trigger, or at least some kind of mode that turns his hair stark white, and allows him to summon boss-caliber demons to fight alongside him.

In terms of story, V is seen offering Dante a job to help stop a powerful demon from resurrecting. It is hard to tell if the dissociated way he tells Dante about the job is meant to imply he’s hiding something or he’s just like that.

The footage also confirms that there will be a demo releasing tomorrow on Xbox One exclusively, there is no word on whether there is a PlayStation 4 demo in the works. This is not terribly surprising, as Capcom tends to offer exclusive demos to marketing partners, as they did with the Monster Hunter: World betas last year on PlayStation 4. It is not yet clear what the demo will contain or if it will have all three characters playable.

Also of note is that Bloody Palace, the arena-based ladder for players to test their skills against enemies, will be coming after launch in an update. Capcom says in the trailer that it will arrive in April, so within two months of the game’s release date.

We will update this post with the full high-quality trailer when it airs tonight at The Game Awards.

Devil May Cry 5 releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 8.

  • Joker From Persona 5 Coming To Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Joker From Persona 5 Coming To Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Toward the end of The Game Awards tonight, a trailer was aired cutting out the lights to the theater. The Phantom Thieves of Persona 5 fame started talking about how Joker has been invited to steal a treasure, showing off the calling card, but then flipped it over to reveal a Super Smash Bros. logo.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, then revealed that Joker is going to be the first DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is six characters, with the first, Piranha Plant, being free for purchasers before January 31. The remaining five, which includes Joker, are part of the game’s season pass. The game releases December 7 on Nintendo Switch.
