Randomness In Video Games Is Not All The Same

Random chance mechanics in video games can be frustrating. Missing a 90% shot in XCOM, when you really need it to hit, can cause some players to throw their controller or rage quit. But not all randomness found in video games is the same and how developers use randomness can make you scream or cheer.

Warner Bros. Animation via The Hollywood Reporter

A live-action film is set to debut in 2021, but fans won’t have to wait long to enjoy a cinematic adventure set in the brutal universe of Mortal Kombat. Warner Bros. Animation has announced Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, an animated film following many of the series’ most iconic characters.

Scorpion’s Revenge features a seasoned cast of voice actors and television stars, headlined by Community‘s Joel McHale as Johnny Cage and Dexter‘s Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade. Light as a Feather‘s Jordan Rodrigues will reportedly step into the role of Liu Kang, while Patrick Seitz and Steve Blum reprise their roles as Scorpion and Sub-Zero respectively. Darin De Paul, who played J. Jonah Jameson in Insomniac’s Spider-Man, as well as Reinhardt in Overwatch, takes over the role of Quan Chi. Other actors include Robert Atkin Downes as Kano, David B. Mitchell as Raiden, Ike Amadi as Jax, and Grey Griffin as Kitana. Additionally, Kevin Michael Richardson, who provided the booming voice of Goro in the 1995 live-action film, will return to that role for Scorpion’s Revenge. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon is also working with the team as a creative consultant.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge is scheduled to release in the first half of this year.

  • Iron Man VR Delayed To May

Iron Man VR Delayed To May

It’s clearly delay season. Following Square Enix dropping the news of delays of its two biggest titles on the immediate horizon in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Avengers earlier this week, CD Projekt Red yesterday announced the delay of perhaps the most anticipated game of the year with Cyberpunk 2077. Now, developer Camouflaj has announced it is delaying Iron Man VR, the PlayStation VR-exclusive title that puts you in the heroic armor of Tony Stark.

In a tweet from the official Camouflaj Twitter account, the studio says the delay from February 28 to May 15 will allow the team to, “deliver on [its] vision and meet the high expectations of [its] amazing community.” You can see the full tweet below.

  • Video: Let’s Talk About Byleth In Smash Bros. And The Fourth House In Fire Emblem: Three Houses

It was a big week for Fire Emblem fans.

So, the secret is out and we now know the fifth paid DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Obviously, not everyone is happy that yet another character from this long-running tactical role-playing series will be represented and that’s why our American-based video producer Zion is here to support anyone who is still struggling to accept this final fighter in the first fighter pass.

He also takes some time to talk about a new fourth wave of Fire Emblem: Three Houses DLC titled Cindered Shadows. Not only is it the fourth wave of DLC, but it’s also adding a fourth house to the game known as the Ashen Wolves. As we saw in the trailer earlier this week, it’s a ‘house in name alone’ as it’s apparently made up of disenfranchised students in need of guidance, and who appear to reside in the Abyss (a location beneath Garreg Mach).

  • Pokémon Sword And Shield Dethrones Diamond & Pearl In New Famitsu Sales Chart Record

    The ninth week in first.

Since the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Switch last November, both games have appeared at the top of the Japanese charts every single week. The latest chart data from 6th – 12th January, was no different.

Pokémon took out the top spot for the ninth week in a row. If that wasn’t already impressive enough, it’s now been revealed this is the longest a game has ever been in first place on Famitsu’s sales charts. The previous record-holder that stayed in the #1 spot for a total of eight consecutive weeks was Pokémon Diamon & Pearl when it was released back in 2006.

  • Ubisoft Wants to Avoid Its PS5 Games Playing Like Copy and Pastes

    Shake up at French firm.

While you can rarely fault the final products, many criticise the building blocks that go into each Ubisoft release. The French firm’s distinctive approach to open world design may be effective, but it can be difficult to ignore the similarities that its various series share – whether it’s Assassin’s Creed or The Crew, the same underlying design principles are there.

This has resulted in the company dropping some clangers of late, with sales of Tom Clancy titles The Division 2 and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint disappointing. And, ahead of the PlayStation 5’s launch this holiday, it’s pushed the publisher into making some changes. According to VGC, the organisation’s editorial team – which consists of 100 designers and producers – is undergoing a revamp.

  • Rumour: The Order: 1886 Will Make a Triumphant Comeback with PS5 Sequel

    Cor blimey.

Ready at Dawn’s The Order: 1886 was a graphical showcase on PlayStation 4, but ultimately fell flat with critics and some players. The developer moved onto other projects following the reception to this PS4 exclusive, but it clearly poured a huge amount of time and effort into what remains a visually impressive adventure. It would be nice to see the studio return to the IP; it had plenty of potential for expansion. Now, a new rumour suggests The Order will indeed be coming back, supposedly with a next-gen sequel.

OsirisBlack, a NeoGAF user who previously outed a bunch of information about PS4 Pro before its release, is back with more alleged insider information. While not naming The Order directly, OsirisBlack implies this is the case across a few posts. The forum goer claims to have seen a gameplay trailer for this sequel, and describes it in pretty comprehensive detail. By the sound of it, the trailer will show a man with a shoulder-mounted device making his way through a dimly lit set of rooms, with the action picking up when a yellow-eyed monster gives chase. OsirisBlack describes the character models, lighting, and physics as “on another level”.

  • Google unveils Premium Support plan for enterprise cloud service

In an effort to attract more large enterprises to its cloud, Google has announced a new Premium Support plan for businesses running mission-critical workloads on its cloud infrastructure.

According to the search giant, the cost of its Premium Support plan will be based on how much each customer spends monthly. However, this level of support comes at a cost with prices starting at a minimum of $12,500 per month and enterprises can use Google’s pricing calculator to figure out how much it will cost them.

Signing up for Google’s Premium Support plan could certainly be worth it for enterprises that need to have issues dealt with quickly. For instance, Google has said that for P1 cases, situations where a mission-critical application or vital infrastructure is unusable, customers can expect to get a response in 15 minutes.

The plan also covers new product reviews, training and troubleshooting for third-party systems and services.

    Premium Support

In a blog post announcing the company’s new Premium Support plan, vice president of cloud support at Google, Atul Nanda explained how it was built from the ground up to meet the needs of customers running modern cloud technology, saying:

“Premium Support has been designed to better meet the needs of our customers running modern cloud technology. And we’ve made investments to improve the customer experience, with an updated support model that is proactive, unified, centered around the customer, and flexible to meet the differing needs of their businesses.”

Premium Support customers will also be able to call on “content-aware experts” who know their applications and infrastructure stack inside out. They will also have access to a dedicated technical account manager who can help them work through any issues that arise. Customers can even pay more to have technical account managers in multiple regions in order to have someone available at all times.

Google’s support team will also be there to help premium customers prepare for special events such as Black Friday which often lead to huge spikes in traffic that could potentially cause problems.

  • Get a free Air TV mini or Amazon Fire TV Stick with this awesome Sling TV deal

Cable? That’s far too 2018, it’s all about the streaming services in 2020 – especially as Sling TV has come good with a deal for the January sales.

The TV streaming service is offering a free Amazon Fire TV Stick, Air TV Mini or a Sling TV Antenna when you prepay for two months of Sling TV.

Sound good? Click to bag this Sling TV deal with either: Amazon Fire TV stick | Air TV | Antenna

This offer comes at a fortuitous time considering that Sling TV has just upped its subscription prices. It now costs $30 a month to sign up to Sling Orange or Sling Blue. Or you could subscribe to both services for $45.

And if you’re a Friends fan (who isn’t!?) you may have realised the sad news that it has now left US Netflix. The excellent news however, is that it hasn’t left and has no plans of leaving Sling TV.

Need more information? Keep scrolling to find out more about this great Sling TV deal as we’ve got it outlined for you below.

    Is Sling TV any good?

It’s definitely got TechRadar’s approval! We love the fact that it allows you to customize your favorite channels on the app, and it’s on-demand programming along with movies that you can rent is pretty handy.

Not to mention that you can watch it on any device that can stream the app – this includes your tablet, phone, laptop etc.

What we also find it quite refreshing that there are no sneaky fees or long-term contracts – you just pay a flat fee for the service. The only thing we’re disgruntled about at the moment is that price hike – but at least the freebie sweetens the deal!
