  • Red Dead Redemption And Other Xbox 360 Games Get Xbox One X Enhancements

Microsoft announced some big backwards compatibility news during tonight’s Inside Xbox broadcast. Along with a huge selection of original Xbox games that will soon be playable on Xbox One, the company revealed that another batch of Xbox 360 titles are getting enhancements on its new Xbox One X console.

Five more 360 games from Xbox One’s backwards compatible library are receiving updates to support the X today, April 10. The biggest of the bunch is Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar’s critically acclaimed western, though the rest of the batch consists of some of 360’s most beloved games, including Gears of War 2, Portal 2, Darksiders, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

In addition to those titles, Microsoft announced that another 360 game is joining Xbox One’s backwards compatible library: Sonic Generations, the 2011 installment that features both classic and modern Sonic gameplay. It likewise is receiving an update to support Xbox One X today, April 10.

With the update, all of the above titles will run at higher resolution and feature other visual improvements when played on Xbox One X. This is done using the Heutchy Method–named after the Microsoft engineer who developed it–which “leverages the power of Xbox One X to let the Xbox 360 emulator present the very best version of the game possible with the existing assets–all without touching the game code.”

On top of those games, Microsoft announced 19 more original Xbox games will be backwards compatible with Xbox One this month. Those will be divided up into two batches, with the first arriving April 17 and the second following on April 26. Among the games receiving backwards compatibility are The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Conker: Live & Reloaded, and Jade Empire.

  • New Avengers: Infinity War Video — Thor's Physique Makes Star-Lord Jealous

While every new Marvel movie is big news for fans, there has never been a superhero film as big as Avengers: Infinity War. It hits theaters later this month, and it features every major hero that has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past decade. A new behind-the-scenes featurette has now been released that includes interviews with many of the stars.

You’re not going to find many fascinating insights into the movie-making process here, but it’s cool to see like the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olson, Mark Ruffalo, Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt, and Danai Gurira hanging out on set and saying nice things about each other. There’s also some new footage from the movie. Check it out above.

This is just the latest in a long line of promotional material that has been released for Infinity War over the past few weeks. We’ve had this trailer that focuses on T’Challa and Wakanda, a TV spot featuring lots of serious-looking superheroes, and a series of cool Infinity Stone color-themed posters.

Last week, co-director Anthony Russo spoke about the challenges of making a movie with so many characters. “This is one of the most complicated movies ever made in many ways,” he said. “I think all of us appreciate what a special and unique opportunity this was. No one has ever seen a film like this. No one has ever seen this number of loved characters in a single film with this caliber of cast. And that’s really what drove all of us.”

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27, so you’ve still got a couple of weeks to catch up on all things Marvel to prepare. If the sheer number of characters involved in the film is a bit overwhelming, be sure to check out our recap of the Marvel Cinematic Universe here. You can also read our coverage of the locations of the Infinity Stones to which Avengers we’re expecting to die.

Blomkamp's Oats Studios Launches Crowdfunding for a 'Firebase' Film

    Firebase Crowdfounding

It’s a big day for Oats Studios! Neill Blomkamp’s experimental sci-fi filmmaking lab has officially launched a new crowdfunding website option to get enough financing to develop a feature-length version of the short film Firebase (as seen here). The site and funding platform is open today. From Oats: “We want to build a 21st century studio that is funded directly by fans. The more people online that support us the more content we will put out. We want to create an ecosystem where we are directly fueled by the community. Our goal now is the next Firebase film. Help fuel us here. We want to grow and expand, but we need the community’s help.” If you’ve always wanted to support Oats and help them really make more, now is the time to step up. ›››

  • First Official Trailer for Bart Layton's Sundance Film 'American Animals'

First Official Trailer for Bart Layton's Sundance Film 'American Animals'

    American Animals Trailer

“You’re in, or you’re out.” The Orchard has debuted an official trailer for the indie drama-documentary mix titled American Animals, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year to quite a bit of acclaim. American Animals is the next film from Bart Layton, more of a feature than a doc, but still a hybrid of both, similar to his last film The Imposter. Based on a true story, it stars Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, and Jared Abrahamson as four young friends who try to pull off a poorly-planned heist stealing expensive art books from a university library. Things don’t go as planned, and lessons are learned. The actual real people they’re playing also appear in the film in various scenes and interviews. The cast also features Ann Dowd and Udo Kier. It’s a totally original film worth seeing for its uniqueness. And this trailer is dope! I dig the music choice and how it’s all edited together – this is slick. Great way to sell the film. ›››

  • New US Trailer for Wilson Yip's Action Film 'Paradox' with Tony Jaa

New US Trailer for Wilson Yip's Action Film 'Paradox' with Tony Jaa

    Paradox Trailer

“I was asked to keep him quiet.” Well Go USA has released a new official trailer for the Hong Kong action thriller film Paradox, made my Ip Man trilogy director Wilson Yip. Surprisingly, this is going straight to VOD and BR/DVD this May, not even getting a theatrical release in the US. The story is about a Hong Kong police negotiator, played by Louis Koo, who learns that his 16 year old daughter has disappeared Thailand. He travels to Thailand and teams up with Chinese officer Tsui Kit, played by Yue Wu, and his partner, Tak played by Tony Jaa, as they face off against American gangster Sacha, played by Chris Collins, who is operating a black market organ smuggling ring. The cast includes Ka Tung Lam, Jacky Cai, Ken Low, Hanna Chan, and Vithaya Pansringarm. This film looks very fun, with some tricky plot twists I’m sure. ›››

  • 'Pierrot le Fou' on the Official Poster for the 71st Cannes Film Festival

'Pierrot le Fou' on the Official Poster for the 71st Cannes Film Festival

Cannes Film Festival - Pierrot le Fou

We’re now less than a month away from the 71 Cannes Film Festival kicking off, so the festival has revealed their official poster art. I have a tradition of always writing about this here, because they always choosing some very appealing, eye-catching art and this year that is for sure the case. The image use in the poster / official art is from Jean-Luc Godard’s Pierrot le fou, which originally premiered at the Venice and London Film Festivals in 1965. The shot shows Jean-Paul Belmondo and Anna Karina kissing across two cars, and it’s quite lovely and evocative and eye-catching, indeed. Honestly this art is kind of perfect, at least making it feel attractive again. I’m looking forward to the festival, which kicks off early on Tuesday, May 8th this year. Check out the official poster below and stick around for the official selection reveal this week, too. ›››

  • Russell Peters in First Trailer for Comic Convention Comedy 'Supercon'

Russell Peters in First Trailer for Comic Convention Comedy 'Supercon'

    Supercon Trailer

“We want to take it back for the fans.” Sony has released the first red band trailer for Zak Knutson’s indie comedy Supercon. Yes, this is as bad as it sounds, so don’t be surprised. Supercon stars comedian Russell Peters as a former TV actor named Keith Mahar, who is bored of going from convention to convention. So he teams up with his other semi-famous friends and tries to get banned from the convention. The full cast includes Ryan Kwanten, Maggie Grace, Mike Epps, Brooks Braselman, Clancy Brown, and John Malkovich (crazy enough). This looks upsettingly absurd and potentially amusingly, but I’m not so sure. It seems like they went totally overboard trying to mock cosplay and conventions, and it doesn’t look that fun. ›››

Matt Bomer & John Carroll Lynch in Trans Love Story 'Anything' Trailer

    Anything Trailer

“I don’t know a lot of things, but I know what it means to love someone…” Paladin has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled Anything, from writer/director Timothy McNeil. Anything is a story about the infinite possibility of love. Matt Bomer plans a transgender woman who meets a middle-aged man who moved to Los Angeles after his wife’s death, played by John Carroll Lynch. They strike up a relationship, and together experience the turbulence and challenges that come with falling for each other. The film’s cast includes Maura Tierney, Margot Bingham, Michael Boatman, and Tanner Buchanan. This looks like a compelling, modern look at the complexities of romance, putting a trans relationship front and center. It’s particularly impressive to see how talented Bomer really is. Take a look and let us know your thoughts. ›››
