“Christopher Robin! He’s giant! And he smells a little funny.” Disney has released another new 90-second trailer for their upcoming Christopher Robin movie, from director Marc Forster, a live-action re-introduction of all the Winnie the Pooh characters. This looks so wonderful. Ewan McGregor stars in this as a working-class family man in London named Christopher Robin. He re-encounters his childhood friend Pooh, who helps him to rediscover the joys of life. Oh does he ever. The main human cast includes Hayley Atwell, Mark Gatiss, Adrian Scarborough, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Paul Chahidi. For the voices: Jim Cummings as Winnie-the-Pooh, Chris O’Dowd as Tigger, Toby Jones as Owl, Peter Capaldi as Rabbit, Sophie Okonedo as Kanga, and Nick Mohammed as Piglet. • New Trailer for 4K Re-Release of Jacques Rivette's Classic 'The Nun'

New Trailer for 4K Re-Release of Jacques Rivette's Classic 'The Nun'

    The Nun Trailer

“Do you feel any stirrings?” Studiocanal UK has debuted a new trailer for the upcoming UK re-release of the French drama The Nun, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1966. Not to be confused with the horror movie also known as The Nun opening in theaters this summer. Jacques Rivette’s third feature didn’t win any awards at the time it was released, but did end up with rave reviews and is now considered a French classic. The Nun is getting 4K restoration and re-release, along with an obvious Blu-ray release as well. Set in the 18th century, the film is about a young girl who is sent to a convent against her will. When she asks to renounce her vows, she finds herself caught in a fatal trap. Anna Karina stars as Suzanne, “The Nun”, and the cast includes Liselotte Pulver, Micheline Presle, Francine Bergé, Francisco Rabal, and Christiane Lénier. It’s always great to see more classic films get restored and re-released once again. ›››

  • Welcome to Wonderland – Teaser Trailer for Animated 'Wonder Park'

Welcome to Wonderland – Teaser Trailer for Animated 'Wonder Park'

    Wonder Park Teaser Trailer

“Wonderland is now open!!” Paramount Animation has released the very first teaser trailer for their latest creation, an animated adventure movie titled Wonder Park taking us to a magical amusement park called Wonderland. There aren’t many details released about the story, other than it involves a “wildly creative girl named June” who brings this amusement park to life, somehow. This seems like it’s a mash-up of Zootopia and Tomorrowland, with the magic park and that world, plus all these talking animals. Brianna Denski voices June, and the primary cast includes Jennifer Garner, Matthew Broderick, John Oliver, Mila Kunis, Kenan Thompson, Ken Jeong, Norbert Leo Butz, and Ken Hudson Campbell. I will admit that this looks very cool, but I’m still not sure what the plot even is. We’ll know more soon, I’m sure. Enjoy. ›››

  • Teaser Trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos' Wacky Comedy 'The Favourite'

Teaser Trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos' Wacky Comedy 'The Favourite'

    The Favourite Teaser Trailer

“I am the Queen!” “But you are mad.” Fox Searchlight has debuted a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated new film from iconic Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, Alps, The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer). His new film is titled The Favourite, a vintage comedy of errors and wackiness. Set in early 18th century England, the film’s plot involves the frail Queen Anne, played by Olivia Colman, occupying the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah, played by Rachel Weisz (from The Lobster), governing the country in her stead. However, when the new servant Abigail, played by Emma Stone, arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. The cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Joe Alwyn, Mark Gatiss, Jenny Rainsford, and James Smith. This looks like crazy fun and another totally wacky film from Lanthimos, who loves to mess with the audience as much as he messed with his characters. There’s some great laughs in this trailer. ›››

  • Trailer for Netflix's Animated 'White Fang' About an Alaskan Wolf Dog

Trailer for Netflix's Animated 'White Fang' About an Alaskan Wolf Dog

    White Fang Movie Trailer

“He’s got more teeth than brains.” Netflix has debuted an official trailer for the animated White Fang, an updated take on the classic Jack London novel. This “animated feature film is a touching, adventure-filled tale about the life of White Fang, a wolf dog who’s life unfolds from being a puppy in the wild to dog-fighting in Fort Yukon.” The film is made by a Spanish-Luxembourgish filmmaker and it originally comes from an animation company in France, which is why the original release title is Croc-Blanc. This US release from Netflix features an English-speaking voice cast with Nick Offerman, Rashida Jones, Paul Giamatti, and Eddie Spears. And it’s already available now to stream if you want to watch it. The watercolor-esque animation style for this works well for animals, but it makes the humans look so jagged. Still might be good. ›››

    Hope Springs Eternal Trailer

“Who cares if you’re sorry, you have to do something about it.” Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted the official trailer for a dramatic comedy for teens titled Hope Springs Eternal, from a screenplay written by Stephanie Mickus. The film hasn’t premiered at any major festivals before as far as we know, but it will be hitting theaters next month for those who might be interested. Hope Springs Eternal is about a “girl dying of cancer” who maintains this identity to get her the life she wants, until one day she learns she’s cured but doesn’t know how to admit the truth to everyone and move on. Young actress Mia Rose Frampton (Peter Frampton’s daughter, who was featured Bridesmaids) stars, with Stony Blyden, Juliette Angelo, Beau Brooks, Beth Lacke, and Pej Vahdat. This PG-rated film has all the usual cliche high school moments. ›››

  • KVIFF 2018: 'The Fireflies Are Gone' is Fresh Coming-of-Age Cinema

KVIFF 2018: 'The Fireflies Are Gone' is Fresh Coming-of-Age Cinema

    The Fireflies Are Gone

Every year we get a big batch of new coming-of-age films, but only a few of them really stand out. This is one of the very best of the coming-of-age films from 2018, a lovely dramatic feature Quebec. The Fireflies Are Gone, originally titled La disparition des lucioles in French, is the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Sébastien Pilote and it’s wonderful. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel or anything, but it is a very fresh, funny, heartwarming take on today’s youth growing up without a desire to conform to their parents’ desires for a perfect career-focused life. This is one of those particularly outstanding indie films that is so enjoyable and exciting that it put a spring in my step. The moment it finishes up, I was grinning ear-to-ear and suddenly happy about the world and just wanted to get out and dance. I really love when films have this kind of effect. ›››

First Trailer for Studio Ponoc's 'Modest Heroes' Short Film Anthology

    Modest Heroes Trailer

“You’ll be carried away by these modest heroes.” Oh my goodness!! Studio Ponoc, the animation studio in Japan that is essentially the spiritual successor to Studio Ghibli, has released the first official trailer for an animated anthology of short films. These short films will be released in Japan this August, their next offering since making Mary and the Witch’s Flower (which just opened in the US earlier this year and is available now on iTunes). This new series is titled “Ponoc Short Films Theatre”, and this first set of three shorts is titled Modest Heroes. Ponoc recruited three of Ghibli’s finest veteran animators to make these three short films – Kanini & Kanino directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, Life Ain’t Gonna Lose (aka Samurai Egg) directed by Yoshiyuki Momose, and Invisible directed by Akihiko Yamashita. In addition, Japan’s Kaela Kimura performs the Modest Heroes theme song, which plays at the end of the anthology feature. Ahhh! This looks amazing, I love everything about it, and I can’t wait to see these shorts for myself. ›››

Stunning Trailer for Alison McAlpine's Beautiful Night Sky Doc 'Cielo'

    Cielo Trailer

“Now I can’t stop watching you. I’m trying to understand your crazy beauty.” If you love the stars and the night sky as much as I do, then you do not want to miss this documentary. Cielo (which means Heaven in Spanish) is a feature documentary made by filmmaker Alison McAlpine. She fell in love with the night sky when she experienced a blackout in the Atacama Desert in Chile. So she decided to make this documentary about the Atacama Desert, “one of the best places on our planet to explore and contemplate its splendour.” There are a number of observatories and telescopes there, but the film spends most of its time with the Chilean locals, discussing the night sky and its wonder. It’s a gorgeous doc filled with spectacular imagery of the stars. “A love poem for the night sky, Cielo transports us to a space, quiet and calm, within which we can ponder the infinite and unknown.” The film will open in US theaters in August, for those who want to watch. ›››
