  • Just Cause 4's Cinematic Trailer Turns Up the Volume

Is this loud enough for you?

Just Cause 4’s cinematic trailer is the equivalent of an email written entirely in capital letters. The clip, which is very nicely edited, shows protagonist Rico riding on top of cars that are floating fifty yards off the ground in insane hurricanes. The hero stops short of upper-cutting a plane, but who knows what happens after the video cuts to black.

To be fair, the weather element is a neat thing to add to the series, as it’s really going to allow developer Avalanche to showcase its destructible environments. It’ll be even more impressive if it can lock down the framerate this time, as Just Cause 3 really pushed the PlayStation 4 to its limits – and was very juddery as a result.

  • Anthony Gonzalez in First Trailer for US Immigration Drama 'Icebox'

    Icebox Trailer

“In this very moment, you have to grow up.” HBO has released the official trailer for a film titled Icebox, which first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this year. Adapted from filmmaker Daniel Sawka’s award-winning short film of the same name from 2016, Icebox is about a young boy seeking asylum who becomes trapped inside America’s rigid immigration process. Young actor Anthony Gonzalez stars as Oscar, with a full cast including Genesis Rodriguez, Omar Leyva, Johnny Ortiz, Matthew Moreno, and Jessica Juarez. This very timely, very upsetting film shows just how horrible they treat these people, kids included, who are just trying to life a better life in America. Even though it may be infuriating, this is worth a watch. ›››

  • Xbox gets keyboard and mouse support next week, starting with Fortnite

The long-awaited option to attach a keyboard and mouse and use them with your Xbox One console is coming next week for gamers in the Insider Program, Microsoft has confirmed. A total of seven games will support the peripherals on November 14, including Fortnite and Warframe, with another seven apparently following soon after.

Bomber Crew, Deep Rock Galactic, Strange Brigade, Vermintide 2, War Thunder and X-Morph Defense are the other titles getting support straight away. Children of Morta, DayZ, Minion Master, Moonlighter, Vigor, Warface, and Wargroove will be next in line.

“When the update launches next week, all developers will have the tools they need to create tailored mouse and keyboard experiences for their games as they see fit to ensure a fair and fun experience for fans,” says Microsoft. In multiplayer games, players should get matched against other players with a keyboard and mouse attached for fairness.

    Designed for Xbox

Microsoft is also launching a special Designed for Xbox program to promote mice and keyboards made specifically for the Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles. Razer is leading the charge and says it will have some hardware to share at CES 2019 in January, though no doubt more companies will join the party over time.

“[Designed for Xbox peripherals] are created for living room or desktop scenarios, come equipped with a dedicated Xbox key, and support the new Xbox Dynamic Lighting feature – enabling immersive in-game lighting effects,” explains Microsoft.

Exactly when the full keyboard and mouse support will roll out to everyone remains to be seen, but it should be very soon. After that it’s down to developers to include support for the extra devices in their games, so if you want that little bit of additional control over your racing or your shooting or your flying, you can take advantage.

  • Indie Devs Explain Why Their Games Are Successful On Nintendo Switch

    Aspiring developers take note.

It’s evident indie games are selling well on the Nintendo Switch with ongoing reports of successful sales, but why exactly do these games continue to perform so well on this particular platform? At PAX Australia in October, a bunch of indie developers got together for a special panel in an attempt to shed some light on this subject.

Ash Ringrose from SMG Studios said Death Squared sells more per day on Switch than it does over the course of an entire week on Steam, and this is still happening after 400 days. He went as far as saying the game sold “really badly” on other platforms when compared to Switch sales data. His theory is it’s not just about simply releasing any old game, it’s about providing this audience with quality experiences:
